Just make spine crawlers. He lost 40+ drones. Even if he were very liberal with the amount of spines (4 at each base is overkill) it would still cost way less than losing drones constantly and giving up map control.

I think making roaches before replenishing the lost drones would have probably worked better than just constantly replenishing and losing drones. A few roaches near the ramps, and maybe a spinecrawler at each base would have probably allowed him to stabilise.
