It will only mean not a lot of people sign up.
and yeh... the spots in NASL season 2 are nice but I still think that you shouldn't have a shot at playing in a big tournament because you paid money.

You don't have to understand the crazy format of NASL (pretty sure incontrol said on stream that it was weird), to understand that you don't qualify for the Playoffs of a League after not having played in the league. That's like if the Patriots didn't play all season, but beat a bunch of College teams to qualify for the post-season. Explain it. Don't just pretend you know something everyone else doesnt. Because in the actual league you have a 1/5 chance to make it to the Grand Final... here you have a 1/1,024 chance to make it. actually.. you have a 1/188 chance and if you add in the fact that more then 9/10 of the players in the open bracket are non-pro. A pro who did not participate in the 'League' ,,, but shows up for the Open bracket actually has about the same odds... but only has to play around 8 matches in a week and pay 10 bucks to get there. ![]() You'd only have 2^10 players or 1024 players... or 10 possible matches for the winner

It will only mean not a lot of people sign up. and yeh... the spots in NASL season 2 are nice but I still think that you shouldn't have a shot at playing in a big tournament because you paid money. I really don't understand how the entry fee is an issue for people. MLG has a much larger entry fee, and provides no subsidy for travel or accommodation. My understanding is that Dreamhack is predominantly invitation only, and they also don't subsidize participants. If you can find another tournament which will allow you to qualify online, provide you with ANY form of stipend for travel or accommodation, has a prize pool that is more than $20,000, and does not have an entry fee, than maybe I would be able to sympathize. The only one I can think of that comes close is the GSL. And unless you can live in Korea for months on end or place in the top 8 of MLG, you're not going to participate in that tournament.

Some guys have played over Month's to get there... Just to eventually get kicked out of it in one BO3 to a guy that did not need to commit to the league at all?

It would be like the BYOC winner from Dreamhack will be seeded in the Quarter Finals or something.

So lame that they are doing this when many are not available. 1pm seems to be a excellent time for everyone except North Americans. Making it a terrible time for pro Koreans and Euro players to suffice non pro NA players makes no sense. Oh sorry, I thought this was the North American Star League. If you don't care enough about SC2 to be able to play on a Wednesday at 1PM, you're not good enough to compete, anyway.

Great to see other koreans. The top8 should be deserving. Lets hope for no big bracket fucks or upsets. (I still think it should be double elim or there should be more qualifiers) But ... will there be streams for the qualifier?

In future seasons I hope they do not do this because by then anyone would have had a chance to qualify for NASL (via Open or Season 2 Qualifier). But it sucks for Ret.... reward for finishing #1 is a potential date with a GSL Code S Player O_O

Would you say I have a 50/50 chance of beating my 6 year old sister in boxing? Or is this the Dreamhack coin flip tournament version 2.0? Their math may be off: but it is clear, it is a LOT easier to make it through the NASL than the Open Bracket. Let's assume 256 players... of that, there are 10 top level Korean pros and 20 NA pros. Because of server latency and bad luck let's say each of the Korean Pros has 5% chance of winning (1/20), each of the NA pros has 2.5% chance of winning (1/40). The chance of making grand finals is 1/5, assuming everything equal. And Korean Pros have tended to outperform (Zenio, MC, July, Moon, Boxer all in Finals...), so they would've had a better shot going through the actual tourney. You look at people who didn't make the playoffs: outside of people like Rainbow, a lot of them are people (Tyler, Moonglade, PainUser) whom you wouldn't give a puncher's chance to make through the Open Bracket. If they can't qualify the NASL way, what makes you think they could dominate the Open Bracket?
