Idra lost to Killer and Orly? Seriously?

this is why group stage bo1 is a stupid format

anyone can lose to anyone, a bunch of bo1's is a horrible way to decide "who is better" at the game given the amount of volatility in the game

they may as well flip coins to determine the group scores

I disagree. The volatility in Bo1s are negated by the fact that players have to play 6 games in a group and if they screw up 1 game due to cheese, still have 5 other games to show their skills.

This has been the system all along and while all of us may prefer Bo3s, WCG can't have their finals GSL style and play it over 2 weeks or something.
Personally, i think the results do show that the best players have advanced. Idra is wildly inconsistent and he has lost Bo3s, Bo5s to perceived "inferior" players before.

Why cant they make it Groups of 4 or 5 with Bo3?Isn't that standard for group play?IEM,Dreamhack,MLG,GSL do this .
Why not WCG?

You guys are too used to lengthy marathon formats. -_-

Not every tournament follows the same bill.

I don't get why something like WCG would use a Bo1 format. I mean, I sort of get it, but it just feels like, hey if you can just take one game off a top level guy, you could advance. It just screams "I got lucky, but I advanced"(with all due respect to all the players)

No, because you still have to be top 2 in your group. You need more than one lucky game to get top 2.

Best of 1 format is just bad. Playing against different player you can cheese or whatever and take games off player that are better than you.

like what happened to MVP, xigua, titan and others who apparently sweeped through groups?

this format was used long time and its good dont make it sound like 6 poolers got lucky and won wcg group

You don't have to be lucky, you just have to get lucky in the one or two matches where your opponent is better.

both killer and orly are 0-4 against idra, and I guarantee they would not win a bo5 series, and had a good cheese ready to snipe him out. Orly got utterly destroyed at Dreamhack

Now I know Orly. I've met him, I've seen him, watch him play. And I know for a fact, that he's not a cheeser. He wouldn't do such a thing. On the other hand, that's the reason why he might cheese. As you already said, he got completely destroyed in Dreamhack. Poor fella, but a couple MLG's ago, he got 26th place. That's pretty good imo.

On the topic of the stream. Do you guys also have 360p and a 4:3 ratio screen? Goddamnit the quality is aweful. =/ I watched the game between Jack and Sen and couldn't even fullscreen.
I really feel alright

So, considering the upsets today, any chance of anyone upsetting against Mvp at this point?

Wait... So you guys are implying Idra lose because of the stupid BO1, am I getting the correct information here?

bo1 gives the best chance for an inferior player to surprise a better one and walk away with the win

to phrase it better, actionjezuz(as an example, hes not there) could 6pool his group, win every time, and get to the final bracket because of it

not all idra games were shown so who knows why he lost, but the fact is bo1 format virtually guarantees there will be no consistency in the skill of the players who make it through (other than perhaps being able to hold cheese well)

You are exaggerating like crazy.

Really liking the no caster stream. Wish this were an option at more tournaments.

Nice timing by Socke, hitting 15 seconds before Sen's spinecrawlers finish.

Obviously we need groups with BO9s

If idra loses? Well we can always say he was tired due to playing so many games XD

Hey guys, just tuned in and I have some questions:

On how many days does this tournament stretch?
Is the Offstage stream the only sc2 stream?
Are more sc2 games today?

Thx!

Not for the groups. He could lose to someone in his group, but he should still make it through assuming liquipedia is accurate.

Socke is the man! He has great PvZ and I'm glad he won. He might be able to make it out of groups now.
