Macro doesn't really have any place in it. The funniest thing I remember was on this season's GSL where it was Inca vs Huk iirc on Xel'Naga Fortress where both players had mined all 8 mineral patches from their bases before expanding.

A mirror matchup cannot be imbalanced. No problem in a matchup being decided by micro. I will give you that there are a ton of straight up build order wins in PvP, especially for the player going 4gate or blink stalkers, but its not like there are a ton of possible safe openings in ZvZ either. 1st game was enteratining, 2nd game i didnt catch, 3rd was critical mistake from naniwa. Only reason TvT turns into such a long game, is because it is safe to expand due to the defensive power of tanks.

On another note, it was slightly amusing hearing Idra ask Incontrol a bunch of questions about PvP. It seems this is the one match up he isn't too familiar with

Beside the first game it wasn't even close (and the cheese game I guess, lol). I'd assume he's focusing all his practice on PvT at the moment.

If ZvZ didnt almost require a 2nd base, im sure 99% of those games would be 1 base vs 1 base as well, and no1 really complains about ZvZ too much. 1st game was entertaining just because had that DT come out 10-20 seconds later that game would be over. 2nd game was 4g vs 4g 3rd was rock paper scissors with 1 critical mistake (still wouldnt win, imo). Its not so much about balance as you cant really complain about mirror balance, its just the fact the matchup is rock paper scissors most of the time and on top of that EXTREMELY boring to watch. Macro plays no role , in fact in some 4g vs 4g you have to purposely cut probes in the early game and supply block yourself like naniwa did in the 2nd game. So all we have is micro wars which is fun to see once or twice but every game 1base micro wars gets really boring. Also , you cant say the best player always wins (not talking about this but in general) when in most games it comes down to microing 10- units of stalkers and zealots and as soon as someone gets 1 unit advantage they pretty much win :/ And yeah , ZvZ was the most boring matchup like some months ago. Everyone complained when it used to be zergling baneling wars out of 1 base 99% of the games. Edit: phrasing
