Players such as Jinro, HuK, and Adelscott did not apply for this tour, so don't ask why they aren't on this list. DIMAGA, Kas, and LaLush turned applications in late so they will not appear either. Please take some time to learn who exactly applied. Please inform yourself about who applied and who didn't. |

here are my current problems with nasl selection so far
1, Bias towards EG players (we knew this already though didn't we) 2, players are not diverse, and not many to no korean players so far (this will change though) 3, i've seen better talent at an assembly or an mlg (for much smaller prize pool) 4, lots of players who should be in the tournament missing and likely not to get in
as much as i was hoping for a great and awesome tournament. it looks like another average tournament with too much hype than needed.
While I agree with most of your points, I feel it's unfair and provocative to call it biased to EG players. Demuslim and Strife aren't in (yet?) and I know that Demuslim even with a lack of practise due to a broken arm, is still stronger than most of the Terrans invited so far. IdrA and Axslav deserve their spots and nobody really doubted that Incontrol would be invited since he's pretty much the face of the league, regardless of his perceived skill.
Moving on, we're now 40/50 and at this rate, I'd look forward to FXOpens more than NASL season 1. I really hope the next two days have saved the best for last, because this is just underwhelming :/

Perfect player choice so far. I'm very happy!
This is a NA league and I want to be able to relate to the players so this is perfect.

The same could pretty much be said about Artosis, yeah BW player but SC2? Not so much yet. That is why i said it feel like popularity contest. And also at least artosis qualified for GSL 1. From the few times i see grubby play in the tournaments he got invited to he lost badly.

And incontrol his ''almost qualified'' does count? :D

It would have been pretty stupid if they made a NA league and filled it with half Koreans. This is a chance for the prospects of the rest of the world to show their might. Otherwise may as well hold another LAN in Soeul.
The invites so far are great.

(See NASL Q&A) The league has to start with SOME set of players, and over time the good ones will stay and the bad ones will fall away. I think it should be closer to half the players. That way more players can get in based on merit than some arbitrary methodology that somehow picks EU and NA over KR.
Actually, I think the "re-qualify" ratio is about right. The 16/50 players means that 32% of the players are not guaranteed spots for the next NASL.
In comparison, GSL Code-S has 50% of the players going to the up/down matches. But some of those players (i.e. 3rd place in group) get 2 chances to re-qualify, and even if they don't re-qualify, then they automatically get Code-A status.
Thus, I think the ratio is reasonable. Disagree?

Yeah I didn't disagree with you but just gave an extra example, chose Artosis because there is (obviously) almost no whining about him.
Grubby is pretty impressive tbh, he didn't have the best luck with seedings in the few tournaments that I've seen him in, but he's not going to be a pushover (which I think some people are going to be.)

Looks like someone took the bait.
Yes, he made GSL1. Which means he would have wrecked any NA / European tournament at that time.
Something like 20+ top foreigners few out to Korea between GSL1-3 and tried to qualify. He's one of ..what, 5? that actually managed it in. Yes, that's an accomplishment. Even though those Koreans look bad now, they would have rolled over any NA / EU players at that time. And they did, because so many foreigners failed to qualify (incontrol, anyone?).

I wanna see some evidence to back up your statement that DeMuslim is better with a broken hand than most other Terrans in shape... That just sounds stupid, maybe you should rethink that statement... And I would have to agree with masterbreti on some of his statements, is this is for the most skilled players; what has Grubby done to earn that title in SC2.

I think the following foriegners deserve a place: Ret, Dimaga, Morrow, Optikzero, Minigun, Demuslim
So, most of the following list will be turned down: TOP, Squirtle, Moonglade,MC,Inca,Rainbow,Ensnare,Nada, Lyn,July,TheWind,Supernova,Boxer,Bomber
Korea's best players put all this time into applying and now, for sure, most of them won't get a spot. Those people saying "but still some are unannounced", well 10 is not enough unless you exclude most of the above, which you will struggle to justify.
Since you obviously couldn't be inconvenienced enough to keep up with the thread, Dimaga (and lalush) got his application in too late (per Xeris), and the way Minigun was commenting, it fairly safe to infer that he wasn't accepted. I'm pretty sure Ret and Morrow will be announced in the next couple of days, along with some Koreans - iNc said there will be at least one from oGs in..but he may have just been talking for the sake of hearing his own voice (as he reads the text out loud while he types over the thunderous sound of his keyboard). OT: While today's 5 are all strong players (not horribly sure on dde, though I think I remember him doing well in some tourneys), I don't think any of them other than maybe Goody have a decent chance of qualifying out (top 2) to the championship bracket. I'd put them all at about the same level of play - not the top, but the very next tier.
TSL spoiler: + Show Spoiler + Given the recent issue with the lag from KR --> US in the TSL, it's probably not that bad of a decision, in retrospect, that only a few Koreans are playing (barring the surprise "last 10 players all being koreans" for the NASL). Even in his win, Boxer said that the lag he was getting was really bad, and it's evident in the playstyle of the other Koreans that it does play a considerable factor..

This just seems to be more of who is friends with the right people as opposed to a League based on achievements. It's not that I disrespect or don't appreciate what the organizers are doing, but I just wish the selection process was more impartial. Players like Incontrol, who is a great guy, but hasn't actually won anything (I think his only notable achievement was a RO16 at one of the MLG's) or Vibe, who I hadn't even heard of before this, are very good players, but it's just not fair that they get a chance to compete for so much money over people who are maybe more deserving of the opportunity. God I sound like such an asshole

really happy with invites so far. Still hoping to see a couple koreans in the last 10.

Going to have to call bs on this. It really wasn't until season 4 where this 1 and 2 base all in crap started falling out of style in GSL. They were better at cheesing.
