[NASL] Players (final) - Page 87

Players such as Jinro, HuK, and Adelscott did not apply for this tour, so don't ask why they aren't on this list. DIMAGA, Kas, and LaLush turned applications in late so they will not appear either. Please take some time to learn who exactly applied.

Please inform yourself about who applied and who didn't.

I'm trying to look at the NASL more positively now, but these new announcements further solidify my interpretation of NASL as an online MLG with a bigger prize pool.

I mean I knew iNcontroL was going to get in based on his position in the league or whatever, but it just reminds me of MLG where he made top 16 because somebody dropped out.

Cue the "there's still more names to come" response.

I know Grubby is pretty legendary in wc3 but the fact that he is been invited even tho he pretty much is new to the sc2 scene and didn't establish himself as elite player in any tournaments is a big turn off for me. I will still be watching nasl but I'm start losing the excitement for it.
Also the invite feel like 80% popularity contest 20% accomplishment and skill now.

GOODY THE KING!

Grubby I can accept, even if his current state isn't perfect yet. Incontrol and Painuser, sure.

Dde I haven't heard of before, another less known US player?

Dde hasn't had much major tournament success, afaik, but he regularly does very well in small tournaments, and is one of nrg's best players in clanwars.

Apparently Dimaga's application was too late?
Not sure why he wouldn't get an invite to begin with considering what other zergs are on the roster so far.

still sucks that "the kick off of esports in the west" starts with a damn popularity contest -.-

A bit off topic but he is in the final in the zotac cup right now. Not sure if he have won any tournaments in sc2 so far, it can't be that many, so be sure to tune in.

On topic I'm also happy that Goody got in.

i watch grubbys stream quiet often, i know how good he is and i really like him. doesn't change the fact that i absolutly hate that there is a tournament of that format were players just get invited and i don't have any clue on what basis. it seems like popularity matters and that is just not right in any way.

It very well may be a pure popularity contest, but I'm totally ok with that. They are all good players, no one will deny that. And if the league is to succeed, we need players people will watch and pay to watch (the most popular players). Some random grandmaster or whoever would qualify that no one has heard of would be bad for the league imo

Yeah but you need players that attract viewers too. Artosis and Grubby are in NASL for that reason imo. Maybe they'll raise their game and prove us wrong but nonetheless i am excited to see them playing even if i think they'll get crushed pretty badly. And anyway, bad players will be replaced next season so no big deal.

I think its more of a "friends with incontrol & friends" get in type of deal.

These groups look extremely uneven. I can't wait until they explain how they determined them. Putting Moon and Grubby in the same group as well as IdrA/NonY just seems like they're trying to manufacture a story. In fact the whole emphasis on "developing stories" makes me uneasy. Good stories develop naturally from good competition. If you try to manufacture them you get the XFL.

I don't even understand why you brought up iNcontroL making it into the top 16 because other people didn't show up... you do realize he earned the 18th spot that he was in right? They didn't just randomly say... hmm let's find some random guy to fill in thi- oh hey Geoff. Want this spot?

The selection process is completely different for MLG so... ya I really have no clue what you were going for there. I can understand that you might not think iNcontroL should be in the NASL based off the way they decide... but as for MLG who else should have gone? They went with the best option. What a poorly thought out complaint...

I hate hop aboard the negativity train, but the player list is actually getting me less excited. I'm just not getting the impression that this is going to be the 50 best that NA/EU (and to some extent, Korea) has to offer. Certainly, no one on the list is bad, but there are a number of people who probably aren't top 50.

That said, I'm hoping that once things are under way I'm proven wrong, and we really shouldn't jump to any doom-and-gloom conclusions before a match has even been played.

Personally I don't have a problem with grubby. The guy is pretty damn good for only playing for 2-3 months? From what I've seen on his stream, it seems like his achilles heel is making too many probes, not a terrible weakness for a war 3 player.

It's obvious the goal is to get as many viewers as possible.

The groups look good, but I'm starting to worry about the number of KR players.

In all honesty, there really hasn't been much opportunity to accomplish stuff so far in star2.... the only big tournaments in North America so far have been 3 MLGs, Blizzcon, and an IEM qualifier. Other than that, there have bas been 1 dreamhack, 1 assembly, the IEM championship (moon and ace invited), and 5 GSLs. The rest of the things to "accomplish" are the weekly online tournaments like Craftcup and Zotac cup. I guess the GCPL can count for a team league, but that isn't even over yet. Not everyone has had a chance to prove themselves yet to be quite honest, the game was only released in August of last year. That isn't even a full year of an officially released game. People have to rely on Broodwar and War3 accomplishments as of right now to prove that they can compete and win (This applies to people like InControl, Grubby, and Artosis. I'm not saying that I think they are or aren't the best choices, but just providing why I think it's unfair to reward people based soley on their SC2 success, when there haven't been many opportunities when you look at it).

Just my perspective on the issue that people have with the "accomplishments" factor.

So. 10 spots.

I think the following foriegners deserve a place: Ret, Dimaga, Morrow, Optikzero, Minigun, Demuslim

So, most of the following list will be turned down: TOP, Squirtle, Moonglade,MC,Inca,Rainbow,Ensnare,Nada,
Lyn,July,TheWind,Supernova,Boxer,Bomber

Korea's best players put all this time into applying and now, for sure, most of them won't get a spot. Those people saying "but still some are unannounced", well 10 is not enough unless you exclude most of the above, which you will struggle to justify.

I think Koreans will be discouraged en masse from trying for the 8 spots for next season, because NASL accepted so few as to be disrespectful (if they'd said Koreans would be minimal from the beginning it wouldn't be so bad, but they allowed 20 great Koreans to look like they had a chance).
