Players such as Jinro, HuK, and Adelscott did not apply for this tour, so don't ask why they aren't on this list. DIMAGA, Kas, and LaLush turned applications in late so they will not appear either. Please take some time to learn who exactly applied. Please inform yourself about who applied and who didn't. |

You must mean the 17th SCReddit Open, of which there have been well over 20, not the SCReddit Invitational, which was an amazingly well run event that showcased what independent Starcraft 2 tournaments should strive for in terms of production quality, casting, and games.

Hmmm... I'll just say that those are DEFINITLY not the first 15 I would've picked... lol Really hope that the next 35 choices include more then 2 players that I would consider a "pro"

So far what I've seen from NASL is all hype and nothing that backs it up. With so much money in the league you would expect production value equal to GSL. Right now I even have my doubts the production value will be same as TSL (which I would gladly pay for if it was a ppv tournament).
It all comes down to "you will see" it's gonna be epic. And we have to take it with faith that everything will smooth out when the league starts. Leave the best for last and you will see lots of people totally lose interest even before the league starts.

Too many people with sand in their vagina's.
This first seasons group of 50 will look weak compared to the third seasons group of 50.
Everyone needs to relax. The first GSL Open was pretty weak compared to the third GSL Open.

This is cool for sure, but to be honest im surprised catz made it in, i men no offense to the guys hes cool as hell, but it seems as though there were more qualified player imo.

seriously? the league hasnt even started yet. how could you possibly make a judgment about nasl not backing up the hype when it hasnt even begun. it hasnt even announced all of the players yet for gosh sake. its ridiculous how much complaining there is.

I really wanna see MC crush some foreigner heads! I want him to become a bonjwa (sp?) and I think allowing him be in foreigner tourneys will help that

I think some people are missing the goal of this tournament. It is meant (as far as I've understood it) to expand the foreign sc2 scene. If they were to get the best of the best the tourney would consist of 90% Korean players. Sure, some would like that, but the makers of this tournament obviously doesn't, and I can understand that. Creating a culture where people in the US and EU can prove to be difficult if you include the Korean scene too much. I'm sure they are gonna invite some top Korean names, but I'm glad thats gonna be it, or I hope thats gonna be it. Watching the TSL is great fun and I think they have found the perfect amount. If you want to watch the absolute pinnacle of SC2 gaming atm, you need to get a GomTV pass for the GSL. Thats not gonna change if you throw the initiative to the Koreans in the beginning of SC2, if that makes sense.

why choose cruncher when u already got players from the us and this guy is not a fan favorite. why choose a haypro over another liquid guy(assuming not all of them are in) when u got like 5 players in sweden better then him. why choose a darkforce when u already got 2 germans and good zergs all over the continent.
and why choose all of them over a possible fan favorite from korea.
And why are you so damn clueless but believe you can call out people that have obviously much more knowledge than you?
back off fox. you can't tell me that you would bet on catz winning or so. it might happen. but its rather unlikely. i don't call them out. I just call them underdogs. e.g. i personally totally believe in darkforce. and imo you need guys like that.
I just said, that I don't get why they choose these underdogs and not others which stand out in some other way (like for example fenix does as he is from south america) instead of choosing for example 3 germans (not that I mind) where 2 are also on the same team.
I feel like more diversity would have been possible without much effort considering all the applications

GSL builds a house for foreigners in korea, we have people trying to deny koreans to play in our tournament. It's like we took 2 steps forward (this really was an amazing idea at first), then proceeded to take 10 steps back(terrible execution), the first impression on the community (the showmatch) the audio/video wasn't even sync'd... it was like watching a bad car accident... u didnt wanna see it, but you had to.
I don't wish anything bad on NASL, but it just seems very low-calibur in comparison to its competition and with the announcement of IGN's league, I don't know that NASL will be able to compete as the #1 sc2 event in North America, let alone the world.
The whole don't invite koreans is blatant racism, i don't care HOW you look at it... it's by definition racist.
|
well i consider cloud as half german too, so almost all great germans(missing tlo and demuslim, maybe goody^^) are already in - awesome! =)
just looking at any group (especially 5) this is going to be an insane league, cant wait for it!!! also the system looks really entertaining =)

Its safe to assume that the majority of players in the NASL should be non-korean for the primary reason that the main goal of the NASL is to promote the NA scene and grant foreigners more exposure. In addition, this exposure allows the best foreigners the possibility to make a career out of gaming (400k prize pool). This is something that has not been possible before, and the NASL should be praised for their hard work making this dream a reality. With that being said, lets take a look at why Koreans are a vital part to the NASL succeding.
It is imperative that top Koreans participate in the NASL. By "top" Koreans I mean MC, Nestea, JulyZerg, Nada, LosirA etc... If these players are ignored/avoided by the selection comittee of the NASL, i'm afraid they are going to damage the potential legitimacy and growth of their league.
1. If you are afraid to invite the top koreans in fear that they will dominate the league you are doing an injustice to the competetivie nature of SC2. (Even though the New York Yankees maintain an unfair advantage over the other teams in baseball, they generate the biggest draws the sport has. The same can be said for Roger Federer in tennis, Real Madrid in Football, etc..)
2. I always hear NA and EU players claim "we are as good as koreans.. let us prove it." Ok here is your chance, prove to us you are as good as them! NASL is your stage. Invite the best koreans and the best foreigners, and let them battle. Instead of representing 2-3 foreigners a season like the GSL this is the foreigner's chance to fight the Koreans where they are the majority on their turf. Think of it as home field advantage.
Lets say that top Koreans are invited and they procede to stomp every foreigner that they face, and make relatively good NA players look silly. While this is temporarily bad for the league, it will be a long term investment in player development in NA. NA players will realize they have to get "real" with SC2 if they want to be successful and therefore train harder and improve skill-wise.
The other possibility is NA players do well vs the Koreans. Imagine QXC or HasuObs battling Nestea in a Bo7 and them winning. Isn't that 1000x better than watching Cruncher v Catz?
Tldr: I hope NASL does not shun top Koreans in fear of NA players getting dominated.

Difference is that the first GSL Open had ZERO CHOICE who made it to the Final 64 since it was all results based, everyone having to qualify and go through the gauntlet. NASL has COMPLETE CHOICE over who is in the 50. So if it's weak the only people to blame are themselves.
I'm not going to make my mind up how I feel about the invites till I see the entire 50 but, there are valid reasons for concern.

It's not an issue of "x doesn't deserve it", but rather one of "x got in OVER y". For every Cruncher/Haypro/Cloud that gets an invite, you're missing out bringing in a Grubby/Artosis-type player for the community or a korean for their skill or a unique player that brings drama/entertainment/etc.
Nobody that's been invited thus far is "bad", some of them are just very bland and take spots from far more interesting/better/unique players.
I know they are big fan favorites etc and Grubby was/is my fav warcraft 3 player so i would love to see him in nasl, but i have no doubt that cloud is better than both grubby and artosis. I don't know much about Crunsher and thought he was indeed questionable at the beginning but some people itt actually told me about some impressive results he was able to deliver, so i'm not gonna comment on him.

<3 Reddit Open... saw one casted by TotalBiscuit one saturday about 2 months ago (idk?)... was amazing to watch. Its great stuff... the production value was amazing... Kiwikaki became a star.
I love that stuff....
not knocking those guys at all... or even knocking NA sc players.
I'm just saying it is an honor and an opportunity for everyone to include 15 of the best Korean SC players.... they've applied... they want to participate.....
There's lots of western only tournaments, like Reddit/Justin.tv or even HD Invitationals.....
having a chance to get alot of the best Koreans, like NASL has, is an opportunity that would be monumental to throw away.

Results look disasterous, some of those players could be replaced by pretty much anyone in the Ro32 code S. Unless we end up with 30 of the next spots being Korean I think this tournament will be a joke.
If you want to have fun in the little leagues the fine. But to say you are inviting the best players, ignore top Koreans, and then say that foreigners are just as good if they get to play on their own soil is just shameful.
It is reminding me of a news story I once saw about a group which allowed no blacks into their basketball league, and trying to justify it without saying "they are too good!".
Shameful.
|
That's not the point. What I'm trying to say is, if you want better players, there's way more than 50 people better than those people pointed out IN ADDITION to there being players that are far more entertaining/desired by the community
|
looks like no mirror matches in the first rounds :O i wanted to see atleast a tvt ;( those are so exciting when you have players like fenix or select against each other.
|
God, SC2 players are such whiners. It's only 15 players, I'm sure you guys would have complained about Thorzain if were invited and he just looked amazing when he knocked out Fruitdealer. Give these guys a chance.
|
the NA players they got on that list so far are some of the best one's so i have no problem with those. i don't know the eur. players though or if they are top talents. glad to see moon that guy was fun to watch at IEM.
