Sad is sad...Shouldn't have cheered for Huk. He always seems to fall just short of glory these days.

???

Why would you consider HuK to be the best player?? There are many players that are a couple of levels above HuK in this tournament.

He was being a smart ass because HuK said he was the best player at the tournament and would win.

Its okay that you are defending your player, but still. Stating such a thing and then losing in that fashion against a proxygate is nothing but laughable. I do like Huk and I think he's a good player, but that was well deserved. So, call me a smartass for that, but I just don't like that cocky behaviour.

cocky? its called confidence. im not as huk fanboy, but what he said in his Iview wasnt cocky, it was just him saying what was on his mind, there is a difference. it seems like a lot of u just want somebody to hate, and only get out from the Iviews/statements what u want to.

please go back and check the Iview, he didnt sound cocky to me. now, this may just be some kind of german culture (seeing a lot of germans type the same thing) and thats fair of course, but from where i stand, he was just speaking his mind.

"I am the best player here" IS cocky even if you are the best player. It doesn't matter. Its disrespectful and AGAIN, I'm not hating on him. I like and support him, hope to see him do well in Code A - but I just disagree that he was the best player at Assembly.

To anyone who actually knows something about PvP, am I right in thinking that Huk blindly assumed it was going to be a double proxy gate and went for forge to counter that? I can't imagine why you'd want to go forge vs a 1 gate proxy.

I believe he did, because I can't see why he would otherwise build the forge as he can just hold a 1gate of with probes until he evens everything out.
It appears I have been chosen.

He is. PvP isn't anything to base a player's skill on, Socke got lucky he had to play PvP.

Oh well.

Both players have the exact same tools. There is only skill involved,.

LOL. No really, that doesn't hold true at all. Everyone knows PvP only resolves around one strat, the only strat Socke happens to be good at.

Assuming you're right Socke is far superior to HuK. Both could only use one strategy and Socke won.

Really, are you that daft? HuK didn't lose because he was unlucky, he lost because Socke played better in this series.

He lost because PvP doesn't say anything about the player's skill.

Suppose you could play Socke in a Bo10 and odds are you'd win at least 5 games, yeah?

Yes.

Sad to see HuK out, was my clear fav to win and my fav player, but all this rage on Socke is stupid, he is a great player and played better today. Anyway, now Gogo Ret :D

Its either Ret or Morrow to take this tournament. Still, this will largely depends on the maps they use in semi and final.
Blizzard should first update there ladder maps with GSL/ICCUP map or whatever and then give some guidelines to tourney holders around the world.

TO HUK FANS (which includes me):
We are all severely disappointed, and the pain runs even deeper for the same reason why it hurts to lose a basketball game and being forced to hear the cheers of the opposing team and crowd. Skilled professionals in any sport lose all the time. However, the last thing we should do is lash out at what we think are our "enemies." After a game, soccer players shake hands and even hug each other to congratulate each other on the hard-fought game that both sides played. That is exactly what happened in this best of 3 series, and I'm sure we can take after HuK's example since he would certainly find the soonest opportunity to congratulate Socke and wish him luck in the rest of the tournament. Our heroes are not infallible, but what makes them stand apart is their ability to rebound and come back the next time to prove their worth. Let's all be grateful that HuK will be representing Canada, North America, and non-Koreans in the upcoming GSL. HuK, put this loss behind you and just look forward!!

TO SOCKE FANS:
Congratulations! And I mean that sincerely. You have reason to celebrate, and no one should be able to dampen this victory for you. But the one thing I do ask is that in your celebration, be sensitive, courteous, and civilized so as not to incite division and anger among the gaming community. Absolute statements about HuK's character, or the character of North Americans across the board are just slightly unnecessary. But nevertheless, congrats! GG and WP to Socke!

I don't understand this. Socke won a nice blink stalker game and then got a cheesy win on a terrible map, but it's PvP and Huk does the same. I like both players and both of them deserve credit for how well they've done at this tournament. It was a huge all in by Socke, but that's what you do on Steppes- you either all in or you lose to an all in.

Anyways, I'm mostly just curious why on earth the Assembly organizers would allow Steppes in a tournament.

lol naruto, you can't be serious saying Naniwa and Socke are on par with huk

No? Why? Socke kicked Huk out of Assembly, out of Dreamhack. Naniwa is probably better in PvP as PvP is Huks and Sockes worst match up.

Naniwa is insane in PvT and what I saw from Huk - its just about the same level, nothing spectacular.
I saw Socke playing lots of good games vs DemusliM whereas I've never seen Huk beat DemusliM.

So you go figure, I have solid arguments to back up that those 2 are on par with huk. I don't care who he beats on ladder if it doesn't show in tourneys.

And as I already mentioned, I like huk. I support him - but that cocky behaviour he deserves to be out against a "worse player".

Not saying anymore about it. I will now enjoy watching Socke in his best match up PVZ.

Whoa whoa, I thought Sockes PvT was his best. Is his PvZ better????

If you ask him, his PvZ is way better.

who's in Code A again?

Sry dude but there are no good players in Code A. If Huk makes it out of there it will mean something. Code A is for the likes of BitByBit.Prime

Also Socke has achieved more in Europe than Huk in NA

You haven't seen the Code A lineup this time, have you?

for people saying that Huk shouldnt have built a forge what do you expect him to do instead? the only reason Socke's 2 zeals didnt kill any probes in the mineral lines was because he built that cannon. if huk was waiting for 2 zeals to finish from 2 gates there wouldve already been many dead probes.

I like both HuK and Socke

Gratz Socke !
HuK

But what i find stands out the most: PvP in Europe and in Korea is on the same level on top level. So that means something. Mostly, that Koreans are overrated.

HuK better luck next time !

I personally think Ret is better than HuK, but that is just my opinion. Ret qualifed for GSL when HuK did not in the previous season. HuK is never consistent.

This statement about Code A says a lot about the parochialism of some people who only follow one scene of Starcraft. Just letting you know, there is SC2 going on all around the world, and just 'cause you only follow mid-tier low-prizepool EU tournies doesn't mean that the guys who win those are anywhere close to Code A material (ST_Squirtle, IMLosira etc. anyone?)

Could someone explain why Huk ran 2 Zealots cross map instead of killing the proxy pylon?

Was that the right call?
