I felt Hyperdub was a little dishonest in his interview saying he was confident he would win after seeing TLO's play in the first game. If you're confident you are the better player you don't do an All In, especially in a mirror match on Metalopolis. This...is just plain wrong. The better player needs to do whatever is necessary to get him the win. No, that isn't very right either. When you are a better player, and you know it, you play your strengths. Usually that implies a full game where you can outmacro/outmicro/whatever you do against the opponent. When you throw down a cheese that CAN fail if spotted, then regardless of your skill level, you just threw the game away. That is that Grond is getting at.
Hyperdub didn't say he was the better player, he just said he was confident he would win after what he saw in the first game. Maybe he realized the weakness in TLO's early game or his lack of scouting, which he was able to exploit successfully in the two following games.
Cheesing is part of the game, and knowing how to cheese and how to avoid being cheesed is part of what separates the best from the rest. Wasn't Flash known as Cheese Terran a while ago? Look where he's now.
Still, sad for TLO 'cause you can see he's a very strong player. Even the Koreans recognize that. I hope he'll take this as a learning experience and use it to improve even further. He certainly made us all proud today.

Just got to this thread.
GG all around. TLO will learn from this.
I compare this to the Notre Dame v. Michigan State game this past weekend. It's overtime, both teams are emotionally and physically exhausted. Notre Dame scores 3 on their possession, and Michigan State looks like they will attempt the same. However, Dantonio decides to go for the fake FG, catching ND totally off guard, and sealing the victory.
It was an all-in, either he's the hero or he's the idiot. If Kelly had game planned at all for it, he would have stopped it and the game was ND's. It's part of the sport. It was the "cheese" of football.
What Hyper did was totally within the confines of the rules. He didn't "low blow while the ref wasn't looking" as a poster before attempted to claim. He caught TLO off guard. He went all in and was successful. If TLO did it, we'd be singing his praises on how he has balls of steel and it was a great strategy. We all wanted Dario to go all the way, but he'll have his chance again.
People complain about cheesing on ladder because usually the people doing the cheese are those plat players who constantly 6 pool. The mindset of a series between two elite players is totally different. You do whatever it takes to win. If that means Planetary Fortress rushing, so be it.
I find it hard to even confront the argument that "Hyper has no skillz, can't competez with da dario." Hyper won game 2 in a pretty straightforward TvT, and you could say he had game 1 pretty well in hand. Hats off to both players, and hope to see some similarly entertaining series.

Why is everyone raging and making it sound like HyperDub needed to cheese to win? He won fair and square and clearly outplayed TLO in game 2 and choked in game 1. The better player won in my opinion.
Going into a tournament like that you have to expect anything opponents might do to win because of what is on the line.

What an extremely anticlimactic ending to a great series. I'm completely fine with the way it turned out though. TLO did not look for cheese. He decided not to scout close ground positions first and didn't check for proxies. TLO looked so strong though. I really think he's got what it takes to be tip top tier practicing in Korea.
As a spectator though, I feel robbed after game 1 and 2. I had the biggest banana grin during game 1. Game 2 was alright as well. Game 3, yuck.
Congrats on a great GSL appearance TLO! You'll make it further in Season 2.

Yea come on, everyone loves TLO but hyperdub saw an opportunity to win the game fast and took it. Can't blame him, especially when there's a lot of money on the line. Most of us would do the same.

that game one was amaaazing. fking tlo is pro. sucks so bad he lost....

cheese is normal. Boxer , Nada , Jaedong , Flash , everybody cheeses some of the games.

NO! Thewind is out! I guess I will be rooting for check and fruitseller now

Mad props to HyperDub, its not easy to win 2 games after such a crushing and demoralising defeat in game 1. Only Cool and Check left for zerg? oh well, theyre awesome, hopefully at least one of them makes it to semi's.

I was so pissed that TLO went out, but I have to give props to Hyperdub for basically (in my opinion) giving the best interview so far. He seemed as one of the few that is actually comfortable talking alot, and going a little beyond just whats neccessary. I just somehow feel that GOM might want to consider getting a better translater, I dont speak korean myself, so I have basically no idea how good/bad this guy translates stuff, but it seems atleast slightly off.
TLO fighting!

The translater is a TL user and had said in few occasions that he was NOT hired to translate. He is supposed to gather our reaction to GSL and GOMTV and relay those to them. He was just asked to do this as a "side job" so him translating is just a bonus so don't be too hard on him. I'd rather thank him for doing it

The interviews are a really great feature so I am indeed grateful for those.

If only they weren't right next to each other in spawns.. can't argue there is no luck factor there.. only 33.3% chance they have positions like that and that he gets to scout where tlo is right away and throw down the proxies at the nat

A lot of people in this thread seem to be new to competition in general lol. You can't even imagine the kind of shit that goes on in fighting games (and sports too really, soccer rofl), cheese is nothing.
Some of the counter-bashing on TLO was pretty ridiculous too, though; it's popular, now it sucks!!!!!

The translator is doing a good job. He's just relaying what the players are saying, and the players don't always make a whole lot of sense...

Come on guys, once a GSL series goes 1-1 there's a strong chance of cheese every time. Anypro 4-warpgated thewind once their series went 1-1. It's just not worth risking a macro game with this much money on the line. There's nothing dishonorable or immoral about it
|
Not criticizing the cheese, but there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that Hyperdub was scared to engage in a mid-game or late-game contest with TLO. The cheese was a response to that.
