What cracks me up is that this is free for Korea, and Korea doesn't want anything to do with this game. Gom is trying to force them into watching this but charging the people who ACTUALlY WANT TO WATCH IT.

And these bastards had the balls to call this the "GLOBAL star league" What a fucking joke.

I believe the reason in Korea its free (makes money through advertisement to be exact) and here they charge is because they already have the software and advertisers ready in Korea, while here they did not have the time to get all that ready. Hopefully in the future they will move to an adds based model here like in Korea.

btw something to think about to , they talk about the fact that they thrown a relay server in the US and so that's why foreigner need to pay BUT if you are in europe, you got no relay , nothing and btw it's 3 am for the US and 10 am for europe so .... it's easier for europe ....

I think his point is, why charge your small fan base when it is steadily growing? It would make sense to charge in Korea, but as Ordained said, they aren't interested. So why would you start charging the small foreign fan base when it obviously will hinder their viewership?

Well let some Koreans affiliated with TL record it, encode, make a torrent and here we are : happy but with korean commentaries though, TL people are honest and most of them seed it. And make free stream during live, this will happen surely.
Either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.

No way am I going to be paying that kind of cash for that. Gomtv is what got me interested in korean e-sports. I think the only thing I would be willing to pay for is a finals stream. But not if they monetize EVERY thing.

Sorry, I'm not going to pay for this when I can get so much other SC2 media for free. The GSL is really missing out on a huge viewership with this charge.

Touche, but what I meant is that it is hilarious that they are forcing this down Korea's throat by not allowing Proleague to broadcast at the same time. It is free for the people who do not want to watch it. Meanwhile, every other country in the world has to pay.

Gom is trying to win people over from Broodwar but they are charging for it. The $1 broadcasting deal they signed with Blizzard is really going to their heads.

Ordained, I don't think you understand the complete backstory. You'd have a lot less sympathy for KeSPA and related affairs if you knew how big a jackass KeSPA was being about Brood War rights.

Yes, this fee is kind of ridiculous, but at the same time they need to fund this "foreign" side of their venture somehow, and it looks like they're trying to accomodate us anyway. As for the "people who don't want to watch it," they do want to watch it. They just aren't being charged because of how mainstream and stable competitive gaming is in Korea -- it's got huge advertisers and is on two network TV stations devoted to gaming -- they don't have to charge. It's a lot smaller an audience with "foreigners," and they don't have the same corporate backing on that side of the project is my guess.
