Basically change unit management from left key to 'W' your default key for warp gate , hold shift + hot key of the unit (say zealot) and move mouse over the pylon field - I think this maybe similar to the infestor trick ?
Looks pretty nifty.

Yup that's what I do too Ever since I found out about the creep spread trick.
|
I was wondering if this was going to spread(hehe) past zerg creep tumors after the same trick got poster here.
|
Means more problem for me as a zerg

Cool thing. I'm pretty set in my ways, so it'll be a while I really get used to this. However, it seems like it's only extraordinarily useful for mass zealot warpins. Otherwise, the old shift-clicking technique is plenty fast enough (and a lot more accurate).

Very similar to the infestor trick, i use the infestor trick for mass warpins myself personally, just seems alot more useful, you can use it for FF too but don`t plan on them being very accurate :-), feedback it works great as well.

Perhaps it's sleep deprivation that causes me to ask this and it might be a dumb question, but does this make it awkward at all to say, warp in mixes of units? Like can it warp in 'too fast' or anything?

It can be awkward.
Solution is to warp in specific numbers of what you want less of first. Then spam the rest.

It makes sense that it would set another unit to warp in as close as it can to the last one. So if you only make a small arc with your mouse, only a set number of units can fit to warp in that arc you made. If you make a larger arc, you might just use all your warpgates without meaning to.

Zealots are usually pretty good!

Does this let you quickly warp in any gateway unit? Currently my unit management hotkey overlaps with my "warp in zealot" key, so I can only use this trick on that one unit. I would love to be able to quickly warp in stalkers, sentries, etc as well.
Can you also be set up to use the same trick to quickly cast feedback or graviton beam (or ghost snipe or infested terrans)? We only have one hotkey we can overlap with the unit management one, and it seems like if you use it on warp gate you will be blocked from using it anywhere else in the game.

You can add more hotkeys for same command via hotkeys file in your Documents

Thanks! I'll give that a try. Spamming zealots, especially from a warp prism, is one of the most fun things I've found in this game. Hopefully that'll extend to the other units as well.

Can someone please explain this a bit further? What is the Unit Mangement key? What does it normally? How does changing this key to also be W help with warping in units?
I normally just hit W, then hold down the unit hotkey, s for stalkers, z for zealots, etc...then proceed to spam click as fast as I can or money will allow.
I'm slow, sorry.

you can do this for any units without editing anything out of game.
options...hotkeys...unit management...choose ability or ai target. set it to whatever, let's say X.
so i hit 4 (my warp Gates hotkey) Z (for zealot) hold X and wave the mouse around
4 S hold X and wave for stalkers etc.

Im confused as well now lol

Is there any way to add more than 1 alternative to hot keys?

Hey I'm the one that made the video.
The Unit Management key is normally default to the left mouse button. So putting this as an alternative as well makes it so that when you select the unit you want to warp in, you use the same button to both say you want to warp it in and where you want to warp it in at the same time. In my example it was "W". You're eliminating the mouse click with this method allowing you to spam out a huge amount of units in 1-2 seconds. It really saves a lot of time during late game engagements (which is really the only time this is used to great effect).
@hearters: Is that not what I'm doing in the video?

sorry i don't play protoss much. what does the warp in (default W) key do?
i was just describing the method simply for those not watching the video or still confused.

Oh oh I thought you were saying that what you said was a different way to do it. W simply selects all warp gates, so it's just more convenient to use that key to do the warp in as well so that way it's just W, shift + Z, and hold W to spam out a shitton of zealots.

If you understand the use of the shift key in games it is self understandable that you can use shift to issue more commands. No offense but if you just figured that out now that's pretty weak. Im not even a tos player but I know that shift works with warpins and also with mules and many other stuff. It's noting new.

it's the holding a key to spam units instead of clicking, rather than the use of shift, which is being proposed in this thread.
anyhow, I've been doing more testing and research on doing this versus spamming clicks and this just saves on doing lots of clicking if you find that tiring or painful. speed wise there's no real difference until you have like more than fifteen warp gates and you're only warping in one type of unit.
mechanically speaking, it's good practice to click the exact number of units you need at exactly where you want them.

Exactly, it's mostly useful for mass warp ins of zealots in late game situations in the heat of battle. It can also be used for really fast stalker warp ins etc. for 2 base all ins. The cool thing about this tho is that you can still do the old precise method as well for the more important units like sentries and HT's or when you don't need a shitton of units.
