I can't believe I didn't put this in the FAQ, my bad. Please follow the steps in this video so we can get your keyboard supported! I'm going to start making short update videos so you all can know the progress of 1.1. Also, you can weigh in on the decisions we're making and help shape the first test version. Should have the first one done today!

Yea, it's like using macros. I think that's why you see the pros remove their macro keys in tournaments usually. I saw the long video and it's really good, just a bit too long maybe :D The improvements to the new version of the Core seem to make a lot of sense and I can't wait to try them out. I have Roccat peripherals by the way and they allow me to give each key a secondary function if the so called "easy-shift(+)" key gets pressed. So, for example I have "backspace" be backspace on first press and "ESC" when I press "easy-shift" + "backspace". Would this be any use in Starcraft and would it be considered cheating? I could have all 10 control groups on only 5 real keys for example, provided I press the easy-shift everytime... Basically this easy-shift is just another SHIFT in my opinion, like when we press SHIFT+P and get the 2nd control group... I hope this isn't too confusing... What do you think? Thanks, happy Easter, GL HF :D Fpyro

Totally doable and should be illegal since it only one keypress. On a second note, I'd really like if SCII had some options for costumising multiple hotkeys without having to "hack" the text file, being able to customize the command card (like putting all building under one tab) and even choosing the unit selection priority.

they're gonna be long, no time for anything else ![]() Having a 4th modifier doesn't break the ToS as far as I am aware. Don't take it for absolute truth, but I'm pretty sure you're set. Okay! First prototype is done. and it's ugly as fuck: will try to get a playable version for all random players after I've played 100 or so games (20 so far). Finding plenty of bugs on my own for the time being.

Great new video ![]() It's really confusing for me to look at the sheet only, I need to see the keys in Starcraft to better understand the layout. However, my first impression is that a lot of things will change if the new random layout is similar to the new Zerg layout... then they'll both be very different from the current one! I'd love to test the layout a bit, but I kinda need the .SC2Hotkeys file or I'll probably make loads of mistakes trying to change all keys manually. I've noticed though, that J, L and O are very important control groups, which makes sense, but could K be included somehow? It's kinda confusing to have K be an ability suddenly. Not sure if that makes any sense, I just like central control groups on the home row. I'd also love to have K be the select larva key, since it's probably the fastest to press and easiest to reach. But it's probably way to early to make suggestions and I'll use the Zerg layout (ZRM) only anyway I guess. I hope there'll be a proper hotkey file soon? ![]() Thanks and keep up the good work <3 Edit: I've looked a bit closer and I see that J I O P have the best key scores, so they would be the home row! I thought the fingers were supposed to be on J K L ; in the resting position :/ Well, don't I feel stupid now, that changes everything!

Build Viper - This has been assigned '6' (7 for left) which requires a player (like myself) to literally lift their entire hand away from all resting keys to press only 1 to 3 times (approximately), leaving the '/' (Z for left) key neutral. Why not just assign '/' (Z for left)? You are correct in that it can not be spammed quickly and does not feel natural to do so, but we're not really spamming vipers out anyway and it could be far more devastating to improperly re-align your hand after pressing '6'. Baneling Explode Ability - I cannot stress this enough! I highly recommend assigning a special hotkey to the baneling explode ability which is not assigned to any other unit or ability. Explode is unique in that it destroys the unit. When selecting multiple units or switching between subgroups, occasionally mistakes can be made and incorrect abilities may be activated since units often share ability hotkeys. The consequences of this usually result in a temporary loss of energy or triggering a cooldown period. However, if the explode hotkey is accidentally pressed while selecting banelings, you could lose the game! A similar issue existed back with Terran version 0.7.1.2. I can't tell you how many times I ran a scanner sweep to help my ghosts nuke only to lift all of my command centers by accident >.<. On the Zerg layout I have assigned '.' which only activates the baneling explode ability and nothing else (some tinkering was made to other unit abilities to isolate this key). Move Order - Since it can at times be advantageous to give a Terran medivac a move command to follow a unit (instead of picking it up) it may be a good idea to assign a move hotkey for the medivac. I'm aware the medivac can be scan moved with the attack key, but this creates some mental inconsistency since a player might mix up an attack order for a follow order with another unit later on. It may also be that the wrong unit has been selected, or that a selection has been made which contains medivacs and attacking units (either by accident or to reduce camera apm). I have assigned the 'spacebar' to the move command (I don't understand why the 'spacebar' is never considered, it's actually a pretty good key, and it's far easier to reach than '6'! ![]() Oracle Revelation Ability - If it can be avoided, please attempt to assign this ability to a hotkey which does not require the player to remove his/her thumb from the shift key. This makes rally maneuvering around enemies a slower process. I find your recent control group / ability split discovery to be very impressive and look forward to it's results. I continue to be pleasantly surprised with you and your team's revolutionary designs and greatly appreciate your efforts. I can happily report that my control of the game has never been better. Keep up the great work!

a common sequence for terran basic infantry units (Marine/Marauder) is: - attack move - stim - stim - attack move attack is on [P] and Stim is on [;] both are indexfingerbuttons (repetition). My suggestion is to put stim back on [I], that would create a fluid no finger repetitionn sequence of CG(I assume 0/Zero or H are going to be MarineMarauder CG) Attack[P] followed by Stim [I] Greetings and wow TheCore 2.0 is going to be great :-) and yes i climbed through all of the new googledoc linked in the videos edit: Layout is TRM US qwerty

- I feel like the spire should be on the same key as Starport and Stargate "I" , because the reason I build a spire is primarily to build air units and only secondarily to get air upgrades. I can see your reasoning behind putting all air upgrading structures on the same key, but I think the spire should be seen as a unit producing structer, rather than an upgrade structure. As this leads to problems with the Hydralisk Den, maybe put it on the same key as the Robotics Facility and Factory "P" , because both structures are used to build advanced ground forces. The Ultralisk Cavern could go on the same key as the Robotics Bay "K" , because it unlocks the highest ground unit. Maybe I am just thinking different, but for me it would feel more natural this way. - After checking out the keys you are using for controle groups, I noticed that they are pretty clumped around the pinky. Maybe you could consider switching M and 8. This would enable a CG for the ring finger. Also it would allow to build a Bunker, Cyber Core and Spine Crawler by ; and M. For me this feels like an easier to press key combination, because both keys are 1 row below the resting position, compared to ; and 8 which is only possible by rotating my hand quit a bit. And again, thank you for TheCore ![]()

![]() Love the update videos, I wish you'd started with them sooner, your way of explaining things is very clear and logical. I was actually about to manually change all my hotkeys to match this random master sheet, but I play Zerg and you made it pretty clear in the video that the random layout isn't optimal for Zergs. Well, thanks for the update <3

For those who are just looking to start using the core and are zerg is there any recommendations for playing with the core as I know that you said for "zerg players" to wait for the next update for the zerg specific layout. Is there any layouts that you currently have such as the standard hotkey layout for zerg you have right now that would be good to practice with before the updated version of the zerg layout is release?
