Spanishiwa's build seems to be bad against early drops in general.
I just got owned by protoss spawning adjacent positions on metalopolis.
The opponent rushed warp prism 4 gate...
I couldn't replant the spines fast enough and lost a large amount of tech structures.

If i suspect 4gate, drop or air play, i always get 2 more queens (total of 6). They can keep buildings alive as well as focus fire the warp prism or medivac with quite high DPS and range, forcing it to retreat or even killing it and leaving his units stranded without reinforcements. Queens are _extremely_ strong and durable while still not losing their use later on, so it never hurts to get more. Against 4gate you can also afford to just put down 3-4 more spine crawlers as you will have a worker advantage.

Make sure you have good creep spread in your base to be able to reach the prism. On metalopolis it's not a bad decision to use the first queen to put a tumor in the direction of the smoke and then one into the smoke, as most drops will happen there.

Nearly everyone uses burrow roaches and baneling drops these days against toss.

Just would like to point out that burrowed roaches are also great against Terran as they always have some detection (scan) but almost never have steady mobile detection (raven). Terran armies are also extremely reliant on range and the "ball" which gives them low surface area so anything that closes the distance or separates their units is good.

A last point is that even with a scan and tanks, there are times when upgraded roaches can just burrow under the bio ball and do great damage (the regen and armor do wonders for roach survival while the tanks destroy the marines for you).

Roaches against Terran also tend to push a lot of marauders and tanks as well as allowing the Zerg to bank gas which makes for a perfect muta transition.

Oh man, one of my greatest moments in a game was when I managed to move a big burrowed roach army right under my opponents fairly big tank, marine army. He raged quit immediatly after my roaches came out victorious. Not a reliable tactic but extreemly pleasing when it works.

Spanishiwa's build saw play in Game 1 of the Jinro-Zenio up and down match in the GSL. Map was Dual Sight.

VOD Jinro-Zenio Up/Down match - game 1

+ Show Spoiler +

Jinro tried to punish the late gas with two cloaked banshees. Zenio anticipated correctly and had an evolution chamber up in time to get a spore crawler in each mineral line. Despite losing a decent amount of drones, Zenio managed to make the transition to lair with a sizable economic lead.

Behind the banshee harass, Jinro looked to match Zenio with expansions. Jinro built up a marine medivac siege tank army with a fair bit of drop harass.

Zenio held with upgraded lings/banelings some counter pressure with mutalisks. While Jinro pushed Zenio's gold expansion, Zenio managed to sneak a nydus worm in the Terran main. Three infestors came out first to fungal Jinro's reinforcements, and the zerglings managed to get a fair bit of a harass in.

Zenio's economic edge allowed some fierce hive tech switches to close the game out. Brood Lords and zerglings shut down final attack and forced vikings, leaving Jinro with no response to a wave Ultralisks, infestors, and zerglings.

Hello,

Thanks again to Spanishiwa for this great build !

I have problem at my level (silver) against terran doing 3Rax Marines + marauder with a 10 min push.

Even with 4 spine and 4 queen I could not stop it. It happens to me several time.
Any idea ?

Get pre-emptive baneling nest and start massng lings +banes as he moves out. As always, keep up scouting.

I will try, often I'm aware about what he's doing.
In my timing the baneling nest is still in production when the push comes, that's probably my problem.

Can't use this in ZvZ any more, just get ling bane'd or roach pushed, mostly ling bane. So I've given up on that front.

But, my ZvP is solely this, all my loses have been to stuff I haven't scouted such as DT's or really bad micro such as no queen focus fire on voidrays and trasnfuses.

Anyway, been playing around with Ling Infestor a lot in ZvP and its working so well, played 4 ZvP today, won 3 (1 loss from the bad micro listed above).

Here are the replays if you wanna see it (im high diamond).

Fun Fact

Up to the point where you put your 4 hatches down you can afford another 2 hatches and a 5th queen.

I started with 2 macro hatches, then 1 macro hatch 1 3rd.. gonna try a 3rd and a 4th next.

If they turtle you can mega drone, or just do what I do and get all ya upgrades and just spam infestors and lings.

The only game that was close to collosi I attacked before they got out, luckily I scouted it.

They get collosi tech at around 10-12min ingame if they FE like all mine have, and I got neural parasite in one game just incase.

Here are the replays.. [url blocked]

I've been using this for the past few weeks now and it's been doing pretty well for me. vT has been a blast, lots of fun games and I tend to come out on top. vZ is hectic, especially if they one base all in, but I've been winning more than I lose.

vP is usually fine but I've found I keep losing to a specific timing. If the Toss pulls back and takes his second, going for a strong 6gate, I rarely have the units to fight him off. He can just crank up the pressure and keep attacking until I lose everything - I'm lucky to have more than a few infestors, blings tend not to do enough damage and roaches are never in high enough numbers. Anyone facing a similar difficulty?

Get into the habit of getting burrow before infestors. Once you see the 6gate coming, u can pump 1 round of roaches and be completely safe with burrow tech up. Key is to see the 6gate coming so you don't over or under prepare.

If you are going ling/baneling then burrow banelings can be amazing. Just choose where you burrow them carefully.

I have another game of me doing ZvP except the Toss went with a early gateway voidray push which while killing my drones didn't take out my main.

Into a col vr gateway ball.. neural parasite and lings baby

Any one interested just ask and I'll upload it, its such a viable build.. its unbelievable..

This is why you need to scout with an overloard around 8-9 mins. If you see a ball of stuff, then make a banelings nest ASAP. After, when the fight come, just put you zerglings and your banelings in differents hotkeys and send you zergling a pit earlier so marine/marauder won't target them. If your zerglings keep your banelings away from the opponent, then you need some miccro to A: explode them ( keyboard shortcut: "X" ) or B: Select some zergling and push them back to let the banelings go kill some stuff

For the roach problem, you actually need lings to keep roach away from the spines. Spine outrange roach, and with a so-so miccro and target fire, you can pull it off

But technically, except on big big map, you can scout a roach rush. Just let a lings in front of his base and be aware of roach coming out. If you see some, build another 1-2 spine (or 3 if you like too) but you need to build them behind your other spine, so the roach wont attack them first. And your lings should keep them just roach out of range to just denie the rush

The danger is that on several maps the Roaches can bypass the Spines and target the Natural Hatchery without getting hit by the Spines, in which case you are dead. Also simply running up into the main can be very dangerous if you don't pay attention for a split-second.

Great build Spanishiwa! I have started to use your style in every ZvP I play! I almost never lose (high plat), and when I do it is usually due to shitty micro on my part lol. I am also looking into making your build work in ZvZ, as at my level of play nearly every game seems like a ling/bling all in or a roach all in. I figure if I can fend off an all in I can beat them out in the macro game Again, thanks for the awesome build!

Great build, even better for practice. The only thing I have trouble with is the protoss deathball and I can't seem to harrass too well.

@Gantritor
Good luck with the 4OC build. That's 1650 minerals (not including your main). A nice 2-base timing, which this build sets you up for, should work pretty nicely against that.
