I'd like to discuss wether its
1. doable
2. viable
to go for a relativly early hive, since most zergs prefer to stay on lair tech untill after they have maxed at least once.
first off all lets start with zvz
usually a zvz midgame is anything roach based. yes there are some infestors/hydralisks mixed in but it is usually based on roach.
since a zerg can usually only make use of 3 of the 4 gysers on 2 bases, a hive tech seems at least affortable (and it is i tested it out)
a hive will allow you 3 things (i ll leave out adrenal because noone would ever get that)
1. the 3 range and armor upgrades. both of them are affortable and will give the player a nice edge (and 3 range is cheaper than 2 armor

2. Broodlords. usually getting a low number of broodlords is a nice support for a roach hydra mix, though it is hard to affort since the tech costs are realy high.
Though broodlords will force anti air (or your enemy will try to runby and snipe whatever he can). Also broodlords have the most insaine supply efficiency, what works well with your roaches

3. Ultralisk. they seem nice in theory, since they are quite good at killing roach and arend affected by infestors, but since they dont share the attack upgrade, they dont work well with a roach/hydra ball and since they dont work well against balls, i wouldnt recomment them.
so all in all the attackupgrade and the broodlords seem nice, but they seem hard to get.

ZvZ
ok now lets talk about ZvT
usually the key units in a terran army seem to be Marines/hellions/tanks/thors
zergs start to conter that with ling/bling/infestor/roach/mutalisk or something like it
i found out that getting for broodlords efficiently conters every 2 factory+techlab builds (you should scout that opening with your first like 5 mutas),
this works because
1. factory units are getting hardconterred by broodlords
2. the terran cant realy affort to techswitch to starport
3. sidgetanks just get raped
4. broodlords are quite mobile, since you can like poke with them at the back of his base and attack any other place with your groundforces
5. this opening is very immobile and weak in low numbers, so your opponent needs time untill he can attack
after your initial broodlords, you will gain great map controll and will be able to punish your enemy for going to heay anti ground, and since a terran isnt made for a fast techswitch, this tech will often crack his nack

ZvT
ultralisk usually wont work as good as a bainling/infestor/ling mix against a ball, though mixing some in will help to tank up quite a few sidgetankhits
i left out zvp since my stile of getting midgame ultralisks is quite unusual and getting broodlords is standart, so i woulnt do any good to this topic
