You will have to buy HotS to access HotS multiplayer, but WoL will still have ladders exactly as now for those who don't get the expansion. You will only play against those with WoL however if you don't upgrade.

games.on.net: Blizzard is no doubt ramping up development on Heart of the Swarm. Can you clarify for us how players of Wings of Liberty will be affected by the changes, especially in the multiplayer arena - if they don't purchase the next installment of the game, will they be ranked separately so as not to cause balance issues with any new units, for example?
Dustin: Woo! Yes, this is something we’ve dealt with a couple of times before, we had this problem in Brood War, we had this problem in Warcraft III and then Frozen Throne. Our current plan is to use the same solution we had for those products. There will be separate ladders, if you choose not to upgrade and continue forward with Heart of the Swarm that’s totally your option, your ladder will still work and you’ll be matched against people who are playing the same game that you’ll be playing. We’ll still be watching the balance for you in that area and making sure you’re having a balanced experience, we’ll still be rolling new maps to that part of the game, so it will continue forward like any other Blizzard product. Those of us who do come forward to Heart of the Swarm will have their own ladders, their own maps, their own ranking, all of that stuff. It’ll effectively split off - if you come with us, you’ll be playing the new stuff, if you don’t decide to come with us that’s totally cool, we’ll keep you with the old stuff and you won’t have to deal with new units or balance problems or anything like that.

Can you mineral walk workers by queuing a normal move and then clicking the minerals? Will they clip through right away or only after they finish the normal move?

sorry for the vague.
in PvZ is FFE 6gatelvl1 push/all-in dead now? whenever i get my first warp in ~8:00 the zerg seems to have unmanageable amounts of roaches/lings, even if they had expanded to a 3rd. this happened many games.. just wondering if this is not possible to do anymore. when it fails i usually just transition into 2stargate and expand off of voids

how can i reduce my stream delay so my friends can help while i play?
|
hey guys
i always hear to watch the replays of games i lost. but what should i look for when doing so?
so far i figured: - saturation - how good i am spending (macro) - if i scout - if i react to what i scout - general race related stuff (creep spread, injects, supplyblock?)
is there anything else i should keep an eye on or is this "check list" completely wrong?
thx for comments and tips

is their any way to make a rough estimate about what your MMR is?

How do you keep up production when you have multiple production buildings as terran?
For example, if you have 2+ command centers, how can you build the next round of scvs on time without going back to your base or selecting a single cc to check?
When you have 1 command center selected, you can look at the progress bar, but once you add an extra command center, all you see is how many units are building, not how close they are to finishing. The only solution i've found to this is queuing up to 2 scvs each time, which I know is a bad habit of mine, but I do not have any solutions to it.

presume you have your orbitals on 4, just press 4 and click one in the selection area. If they're not synchronized you can have an extra scv queued on just one of them instead.

To make a spoiler tag, highlight the text that you want to be in a spoiler and click on the button at the top that looks like: [s] To include a picture, click on the button at the top that looks like an image of a green hill and sky.

You generally have a feel for it early-mid game such that you are able to queue that second marine, or second scv when the first is over halfway done. How close it is to finishing depends on how good your game sense is. Later it's perfectly fine to just queue 2 when you have too many things to manage, ofc avoid this if you can help it.
Just play more, you'll get the feel for it and soon you won't be missing any workers without queuing a shit ton.

6gate used to be a hard counter against a zerg fast teching to mutas, but zergs kinda have that timing figured out now even though muta play is still popular. If it's not working for you I would stop using it. Transitioning to double stargate is also not a good follow up, it hits too late to do anything worthwhile and you're better off expanding with tech like twilight/robo. You're usually significantly behind if your 6gate does nothing though so fix that problem first and talk about double stargate viability later.

why do people use Q.Q? it was the hotkey to leave the game in bw so 'qq' essentially meant 'stop crying and leave the game'

Whats the more ideal way to forcefield? Do you just tap F and click or do you hold F and click?

On February 17 2012 13:50 Sweatshop wrote: Whats the more ideal way to forcefield? Do you just tap F and click or do you hold F and click? The ideal way to forcefield is to hold F and click where you want the forcefields. This reduces the delay between forcefields landing and allows you to rapidly create a forcefield wall by sweeping your mouse across the screen and left clicking

Engagements, if things are microed properly.
In general you should just ask what killed me? and go in the replay and look into it. If for example, you just got overrun with units, you should go back and look at macro oriented things. When did you take your expansions, when did your opponent take his. If you thought you were ahead and lost, take a look at things like upgrade timings and stuff. If he made a timing push, study the push and how to scout for it in the future.

The solution is exactly as you mentioned, queue up two. If you keep two up constantly, the only "disadvantage" you receive is when you start queuing up from 1 to 2, all subsequent queues to 2 don't tie up any extra minerals. When you have multiple bases, the minerals tied up in a couple scvs is not too important.

how do i beat an 8pool as ZvZ it has happened to me so many times now. i watch replay and i cant fend off the first 6 lings without being below in resources. and the opponent always transitions out so perfectly. the 8pool is very discouraging reason to play starcraft for me now..
