This afternoon after playing a 1v1 match he cries out how Protoss are the EASY mode of Sc2, like a simple win button. I think hes ego was getting the best of him when he said "I play Zerg because I want to play a challenging race". He really seems to have a big grudge against Protoss players.
Heres a short list of some complaints Photon Cannons (No fair they do everything in one Anti-Air/Ground and are detectors). He also claims that if Protoss never had cannons then they would be the easiest army to rolfstomp.
Protoss have the cheesiest most OP units, its no fair 1 Zealot can take 2-3 marines or several zerglings.
Almost his exact words "Protoss is the cheapest race in the game as they are the hard counter to Bio armies"-- Still unsure what he meant by this.

What is the equivalent of C+ on ICCup to the league system in place today? high Masters? becuase i'm mid masters, and that guy was WAYYY better than me
What about B+ or A etc.?
EDIT: btw, I did do a search for this info. I found a comparison of ICCup to the league but it was from last august and not entirely relavent today Um...different game is different? You really can't compare. SlayerS_BoxerR, who is clearly top in BW, got wtfpwned the moment he joined sc2. The two game simply works too differently to be compared. SlayerS_BoxeR is doing well in SC2. If he went back to SC:BW right now I don't imagine he would do much better. SC1 and SC2 skills are very similar as the game is fundamentally the same (micro/macro etc.). Every pro SC:BW player who has commit themself to SC2 is doing very well. ICCup ranking are very comparable to the current league system. I never played SC1 ICCup (I played fastest possible money maps) so I have no idea what my equivalent skill level would have been in SC:BW. Perhaps someone who palyed on both ICCup and SC2 ladder would be more qualified to answer my question
I am masters in Starcraft 2, and barely a D-/D in BW.
With all honesty, BW is brutally harder than SC 2. Imagine controlling your zerglings with 12 unit limits.

You can't accurately translate those, so people can only give you rough guidelines. I would say a stable D+ should be able to get diamond easily, purely because of his mechanics. C- and above that should be masters level mechanics wise, but he would need some game knowledge like build orders and such(which is not needed to reach diamond, I'm serious, you may not know a single efficient build order and just build stuff as you see fit or you have the resources and you can reach diamond).

I guess I have a simple question, thought I'd put it here.
To terran players: When playing against zerg, how scary is ling/infestor/ultra or ling/infestor brood lord as opposed to ling/bling/muta? Do you feel like you have an advantage or can tech switch quick enough if you went hard marine/siege tank? Do you feel you have to tech switch?

For some reason people usually link "play to win" by sirlin, when it doesn't apply, but this here is the perfect case, and I'm just going to give you the most relevant part - Introducing...the Scrub

What is the most efficient way to split your probes?
|
In ZvP if I'm 14 pooling and my nat is pylon blocked before my pool finishes, should I pull drones to attack it, wait for zerglings to pop, or neither of the above:
a) If I've scouted gateway first? b) If I've scouted forge first? c) If I haven't scouted yet?
If it matters this was on Tal'darim Altar. Game was case (c) as the P start location was the last I scouted, but it turned out to be forge first.

On April 24 2011 09:18 goal 888 wrote: What is the most efficient way to split your probes?
The most practical method balancing required dexterity and benefit is 6-3 splitting where:
1) You box all 6 drones 2) You send them to a far patch (ideally between 2 close patches) 3) You box off 3 drones and send them to the other opposite far match
This way you send drones immediately to all 4 close mineral patches which is about as optimal as you can get. Most people 6-3 split whereas others do other kinds of splits (particular pros with high apm) such as 6-4-2 or other variants there of. However, they require much more dexterity with little to no added benefit.
EDIT: I'm fairly certain that day[9] covered this one in one of his mechanics dailies. In short, the method splitting is as important as making sure it doesn't get in the way. For example, don't try to 6-4-2 split unless you can perform it correctly 99.9% of the time.

In all cases, it's most efficient with a speedling build to nibble with your hatch-building drone and then eventually let the lings finish the job. You want that expo up as soon as possible without severely hurting your own economy in the process.

Also, what time should i be looking at expanding?
Thanks.
if you mean no gas, then i think it's a good opening against Z or T. on big maps/cross pos, i might 1 rax FE (i.e. taldarim, shattered temple x-pos), on smaller maps i 2 rax FE. against P, it is quite tough without marauders. i usually expo with 1 rax w/ tech lab and 1 naked rax against P, but this is the borderline of "FE" imo.
for 2 rax no gas FE, don't worry about times. you drop the CC when you have 400 mins while constantly making marines, depot, and scvs. you upgrade to OC right away, and you send it to your natural when you feel safe.

Hello good people of TL!
I took some of CecilSunkure's advice, and I've come here to ask about Terran builds. I'm so unfamiliar with Terran, but I want to try my hand at them.
What are the most standard, boring Terran build orders possible? There have been really good threads I've seen about standard Protoss and Zerg, but I can't find anything on Terran. I'd appreciate it if someone can recommend some openers and/or later unit compositions.
Thanks! Much love to anyone who helps.

Is there any way to calculate the cost-effectiveness of units which have different resource requirements. I.e. I wanna check if marines are cost effective vs thors (just hypothetical, obv they are not) so one thors costs 300 mins and 200 gas. How can I "convert" those 200 gas into minerals so that I can equate the thor's resources with an amount x of minerals which would yield the amount of rines I'd need to kill the thor cost-effectively.

Just try in game, theorycrafting is useless...

http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Terran_Strategy Here you have a bunch of different builds. You'll probably find some builds you will like there.

Hey people!!
I'm trying to play some more Protoss, and I want to go with Air. One problem; I can't find many strong, up to date Air builds, and I wonder if there is any player in paticular going Air more often than not?
Kind regards

Yep. There's no general way to calculate cost-effectiveness for the purposes of determining how one unit will fare against another. A better approximation is to try unit combinations out in a unit testing map (e.g., "Micro Management Tester" on NA) to see what engagements look like. Although this may not necessarily reflect reality because of micro, engagement position, etc.

As Protoss, in which order should i (generally) get my upgrades? (atm this is my order: shield>def>off)
|
Fairly simple question, my apologies if it has already been asked:
What is the optimal time to sac an overlord Into the terran main to scout for Cheese / tech?
I've been going at 5 minutes and it seems hit of miss if I catch something or not.
So when do you guys normally sac overlords? Thanks.
|
One of my friends who also plays SC2 makes only marines every game he plays, and he still expects to win. How can I break him of this habit?

On April 24 2011 22:12 Klappsn wrote: As Protoss, in which order should i (generally) get my upgrades? (atm this is my order: shield>def>off)
Protoss pretty much do it in the opposite order: weapons/armor then shields. This is largely due to cost-efficiency as offense and defense are cheaper than shields and confer largely the same, if not better, payoff.

I don't scout at particular times, but rather in response to what he's doing or when you need to make a decision based on his tech. For example
+ If he goes 2 rax pressure, I'll skirt an overlord on the edges of his base to determine if it's a CC follow-up or an all-in. + On lair transition (with a typical 15 hatch/16 pool build), I'll send in an overlord so I can plan my next set of tech accordingly. This will let me infer banshee or quick medivac play and let me respond accordingly.
However, in the early game, your most reliable source of information are scouting lings poking the front of the ramp to see wall-off building and army composition.

Is it because he doesn't know how to make anything else? Or does he think that mass marine will win him the majority of his games? If he's low-level and he has relatively good macro, then mass marine is indeed a winning strategy (or rather, having going mechanics is).
In any case, you can suggest alternative, rigid build orders for him to work on (e.g., 1-1-1 into banshee/blue flame/drop harass). Or you can have him produce mass marines but work on his economy management (i.e., aggressively taking additional bases) as a roundabout way of refining his game play.

My Simple Question: In PvZ, when planning to do a normal 3-gate expand, what is generally an appropriate response to having your gas stolen?
