I've watched a good number of Idra's games and I noticed a trend that confuses me
Whenever he throws up a macro hatch in the mid game, he throws it up AFTER his third is thrown. In other words, a macro hatch is built while the third is morphing.
I tried to see the logic in this and frankly, I am lost.
Does it not make more sense to macro hatch first before a third? Or in other words, build a third while the macro is morphing?
Can someone explain the advantage of this order that Idra follows?

you shouldnt have a problem spending your money until you have saturation at your 3rd. only after you have 3 base income can you support 4 hatcheries, so you want the extra hatch to finish shortly after your 3rd finishes, so that after the drones are sent there and begin mining you'll have the extra larvae of the 4th hatch.
edit: I could be completely retarded, but that rule of thumb is what I've been using.

well... you get access to the geysers a bit more quickly

If you're making another hatchery why wouldn't you place it at an expansion? The only reason he doesn't put the macro hatch at a 4th is because it would be spreading him too thin.

Well, I am thinking about how a macro hatch inside your natural or main would be easy to defend/turtle, but perhaps that is the wrong line of thought as Zerg midgame?

It really depends on the build Idra was going. If he is going expensive units, he'll need the third hatch. If hes going more ling/roach heavy, he probably wouldnt need it straight away. Still, no matter what level of zerg you are, having three hatches mining instead of just sitting there is a huge goal to have in most games that go toward the late game. If you dont get that far, you can run the risk of having a very inferior army and/or falling behind in economy.
Still, I'd need to see a good replay example to actually explain it a bit better, but Im assuming its just keeping up with costs.
