Hi ya'll. I just started playing SCII three weeks ago and have been running through both of your Wikias for strategies and gameplay advice in addition to your forums.
THANK YOU.
I'm in a Bronze division right now, might be getting promoted to Silver soon since I'm seeing a lot of opponents from the divisions, but I digress. I have some questions I cant find answers to and have been dying to ask for the last three days.
The first is a counter to PvP Carrier Rushes. I generally go to Immortals to bust through the cannon lines they have, but by the time I've managed to get through the line, the first carrier is out and I'm hard pressed getting reinforcements up against the attack, regardless of scouting. Would a better option be to scrap a ground force and build a couple of Stargates to counter with Pheonixes and Void Rays? Or is there a ground option so I dont "waste" a Robo Facility?

Second, the build order I use in the above replay I saw being used by Liquid'NonY (REALLY useful videos and feed). Is that used in a specific situation or can it be multi-purpose? What are its advantages? Just quick Stalkers? I know its stupid using a build without knowing what it really does, but it worked for a while for me (in fact, hauled me out of the cellar of my ladder @91 all the way to 20th, when I started hitting Silver guys) but then I hit a wall with it and stopped using the build.

Third, what things can I improve on? What do I need to add/take away from my game play? A lot of my games start the same way and run the same, so I'm not going to bother you with a bunch of replays to bore you with and trust that two or three will be a good sample.

Lastly, are there any BW builds that can be used in the beta? I now the Forge FE is one, but the Nydus Worm is so tricky ><
Sorry if any of these questions were already answered. I looked hard, but couldnt find much if anything on the questions.

I think this post should be in the strategy section (with [H] in the subject for help). Hopefully a mod will move it for you.
If you see the opponent cannoning up, don't panic and think you need to break his wall. He's giving up a lot of resources to do this, and basically sacrifices map control. What you want to do is scout him and deny him any opportunity to expand while expanding yourself. If he has 1 base, and you have 3, and you are macroing properly (try to keep low minerals), you should be able to easily defend against anything he throws at you until he runs out of minerals.
If you see him turtle and go for carriers, go for stalkers and sentries (with some zealots to provide a meat shield) and you should be good to go. Guardian shield reduces damage from carriers by more than half, and a handful of stalkers focusing on a carrier will take it out before it can get away. Add in Blink and you can chase down carriers, and also punish his mineral line whenever he tries to attack you.
Good first article, I hope to watch your replays when I'm at home.

If you scout the opponent making multiple cannons just expo. A nexus is 400 minerals, 3 cannons are 450. Keep a small force at his natural, so he can't just take it and warp cannons around it without any opposition and make sure he doesn't take a hidden expo. Get an obs in his base and with your resource advantage you should be able to easily counter what he's doing or even just build more of the same units he's building. Don't forget upgrades.
Phoenix aren't a counter to Carriers, Void Rays are. Both Stalkers and Void Rays will do the job, but Void Rays are easier to use than Stalkers - the opponent can't abuse unwalkable terrain and the superior Carrier range and the Void Rays can chase and attack while moving without having to micro them at all. They also benefit from upgrades the most out of any unit in the game.
The robo is a sunk cost, building units from it, just because you have it, is throwing good money after bad. Also, Colossus outrange cannons, while Immortals don't. If you want to destroy lots of cannons then obviously Colossus would be much better suited for the job.

Ok, thanks guys!
Is there really anything Pheonixes can counter by themselves? They're useful with the pickup ability and good for Overlord sniping, but they really dont seem to "counter" anything without support from Stalkers and/or Sentries. Not bad vs Vikings though.

Get a warp prism or whatever the Toss shuttle is called and just ferry your army into the side of his base where the cannons aren't

I don't have time to watch your replay right now, but if you scout that the enemy has cannons, just expand and get an observer in his base. If he lined his entire base with cannons so that your observer can't get in, either take 2 more expansions for the economic victory, or go for colossi.

Thanks! Sorry bout the misplaced thread. Was so excited I could finally post, I hit new post without looking.
Prisms are rather expensive, and hold only four Zealots each. I suppose I could warp some in as soon as I drop em. Would rushing to DTs be effective as a harassment technique? They take so long to get going since the Dark Towers build slowly now.
I went for both an expo and Colossi, though the Robo Bay was pretty late, but it worked!
I'd really appreciate it if someone looked at one or two of the replays and gave me just a few pointers, I know there are a lot of flaws ><
