I watched a few live-streams yesterday and it got me thinking about the somewhat standard play where the protoss would proxy-gateway in the original. Currently it seems possible to use the warp-prism for some pretty cool tactics, where it brings in an initial ground force and then allows for additional warp-ins.
With the new warp-in mechanic, there's seemingly no need to put up a forward gateway. Simply building only one pylon within the proximity of an opponents base and then use its psi-aura to setup an army should be sufficient.
My thoughts simply revolve around constructing a variation on whatever could be considered standard play at the current moment, by always implementing a hidden proxy pylon with the scouting probe.
The scouting probe constructs the 1st / 2nd pylon on a location that is unlikely to be scouted by the opponent, but still in a critical location that enables the protoss to launch a devastating backstab from there at a later stage in the game.
The game then continues normally, the protoss sets up his own gateways in his main, and gets his economy going. And then whenever the timing is seemingly right, the protoss upgrades his warp gates and goes on to make usage of his proxy-pylon.
The advantages would be the following: - No need to tech to warp-prism to "drop", which frees up resources for alternative tech or additional gateways. - It doesn't require any deviations from a standard play, other than placing one pylon. - The only risk is losing that early pylon, but that only amounts to 100 minerals which should be an acceptable loss.
And though it remains correct that BR1 feature forward warping in, my intention with the post was to bring forth awareness, and a challenge to current beta-testers to test it. Having that really early proxy-pylon, to allow them a powerful "back-door-entrance", in the form of latter warp-ins to that location could prove either efficient or a waste of early resources.
You easily have the resources to do this. The resource intake is a lot faster imo so you always end up with some spare resources (this may change once everyone starts playing the game though)
