Saruman and his orcish army lay siege to the mountain fortress of the Hornburg in Helm's Deep. Rohan and the Elves must hold off endless waves of the Uruk-hai until Gandalf and the riders arrive.

This arcade map is inspired by the the competitive Brood War use map settings game Helm's Deep v. Annatar. It is very similar to it but has a StarCraft 2 feel to it. Helm's Deep v. Annatar was very popular and had a big competitive following in Brood War. You could pretty much jump in a game at any time on any server and there were still a lot of people playing it up until the release of StarCraft 2.

LotR - Battle of Helm's Deep is a competitive siege map where one team is defending Helm's Deep with limited units and the enemy team is attacking with limitless units, racing against the clock to kill all of the civilians. All the units in this game are player controlled and the game is designed to be competitive. It is loosely based off of The Lord of the Rings books and movies.
There are two player controlled armies on each team. The defenders have the men of Rohan and the Elves and the attackers have the armies of Saruman and Ugluk.
There are also individually controlled heroes on each team. Each hero has unique abilities and have different playing styles.
The defenders have Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, and Erkenbrand.

The attackers have Lugdush, Grishnákh, and Gothmog.

Aragorn has a lot of armor and is a melee unit. He is played like a tank.
Gimli is a firebat and has a lot of splash damage so he can kill a lot but doesn't have quite as much armor.
Legolas is a sniper with a lot of range.
Erkenbrand is a hellion and is fast but very weak. He is a very micro heavy unit.

One of the hardest part about playing evil heroes is they get trapped in the army. Each hero has a unique way of dealing with that.
Lugdush is a reaper with cliff jump.
Grishnákh is an infested terran and has burrowed movement.
Gothmog is a melee unit with charge and blink.

The game is starting to get decent in popularity and if you wait in the lobby a while you can usually get a game going.
The easiest way to find it is to go to the Arcade and do a search for "LotR".
The game is still in beta but it is pretty balanced as is. I hope to have it finished for the launch of Heart of the Swarm, which I hope will bring in a lot of new players to the Arcade. If you find any bugs or have suggestions feel free to post them or email them to me.
