Are you guys going to address map design? I notice the current blizzard maps all look more or less the same. 3 bases across the bottom or in the corner. I think different maps should produce more diversity in game play. Also I feel harassment has been nullified in many games because the position of the natural.

I have 1 thing to say.


Instead of focusing on SC2's designs why not create your own RTS? you clearly have the knowedge.

Get a project going with valve or something or start your own game company. It wouldn't surprise me if you guys create a really good RTS title if you put your minds to it.

Map design is something that may be addressed in the future... however, like iCCup back in Brood War, it is more likely that other map makers will create amazing maps that will be used in professional play, and we can utilize this in turn. Our primary concern is unit design and gameplay dynamics, and as such will be addressed in as many ways as we can manage before altering more fundamental things like economy and map design.

I'm dead serious.

Your group has all the makings of being a great RTS creator, and hey Valve and blizzard started from a group of people just like you guys, so please think about this.

You guys have the knowedge, you have the connections, do something of your own.

Dune,C&C,Warcraft,Starcraft,DOW,AOE, etc etc you get the point all were started by a group of people just like you guys, and look what happend

It's really hard to envisage how all of these changes will play out together, especially in very competent hands. But, when reading over your proposed changes, I really found myself nodding along and agreeing with the greatest majority of them. Really, really good ideas!

shame they were 2 years late

but yeah this group has talent, they better make someone great of it

Think of this suggestion to sc2 they did as a start of something..... they realise there potential to do something great, and maybe, just maybe, they will create there own RTS.

I can certainly do that and know how to do that., I just need a chance.

For my part, I will be kickstartering a competitive card/board game hybrid later this year. I have every intention of designing games, competitive or otherwise. The issue is getting into the industry. You have to prove you are someone who actually has the discipline to make meh ideas into great ideas. That means walking the walk and having a portfolio.

I've been working on an RTS-Like product for about two years. I originally contacted ItWhoSpeaks because I loved his story-driven approach to design (while still being very aware of skill expression, etc), and wanted to involve him. So yes, while we're working on this, we are also in the early stages of designing a game. Of course, with OneGoal just launched, it's dominating most of our time!

We don't know what the future holds, but I am hopeful. And I know working this project (OneGoal) is not only going to hopefully help my favorite game, but give me critical experience to deliver an awesome game and esport.

As for mapmaking, we've looked into it. We don't plan on changing maps, unless we do fundamental changes to the economy like LaLuSh was talking about. But we were very aware of the demands our unit changes might put on map design -- I practiced map making a lot about a year ago, made about 12 terrible maps and 1 mediocre one, learning enough to know what a good map needs but not the actually ability to implement it. It did help a lot though with making sure our unit design didn't put extra strain on the already extremely demanding modern map making.

When we settle on unit relationships we will explore different maps. It is totally on our list, along with FRB.

I disagree. Maverick, Kabel, and us have a very similar goal: to make StarCraft 2 function more appropriately like Brood War, because Brood War was more fun, both to watch and to play. The thing is, we all have very different ways of going about this goal. Maverick doesn't believe that StarCraft II is a worthy successor to Brood War in any way, and therefore wants to change the fundamentals, mechanics, and pathing of this game to match our favorite. His mod is very well polished and incredibly fun.

Kabel acknowledges that some of the mechanics and units of the sequel are appropriate to keep, but since unit design and the underlying economy are flawed, a lot of things need to be reverted back to Brood War, such as replacing the thor with the goliath, adding in the swarm host, and making all the protoss units gold. His mod is quite unique and incredibly enjoyable to watch

However, OneGoal still holds the prospect of hope that StarCraft 2 has serious potential, but simply made a few key mistakes that we feel we could change for the better (see: Tier 1.5 Hydralisks, 2 supply Siege Tanks, redesigned Void Ray). We have tried to make the smallest changes to the fundamentals, focusing primarily on improving unit design, in hopes that Blizzard would notice us and implement some of our changes to better improve both unit identity and counterplay in the game.

So, while it would be nice to see a mod with all of the best ideas from some of the best melee mod makers, I don't foresee it happening any time soon.

Just played a few, zerg is REALLY fun and swarmy. The new roach and hydra are my favorite, and roachs evolving into the redesigned swarm host feels so right. Protoss I didn't get to do much, but its cool having your T1 be so heavy if you put the gas into it. Teching and having a good t1 seemed exclusive, which I liked. And when I say heavy, I mean I actually got the feeling that my army was HEAVY. Very cool.

The only way for this to gain some popularity is to have price tournament.

I got on later last night and no one was in the channel but I did play with some stuff versus AI.

The ravens recovery drones are super fun. and a maxed army of 2 supply seige tanks spread across the map is fairly terrifying looking, so I really like both those changes.

I didnt really play with toss or zerg but from what I read they seem fun too

Keep it up and I will try to get on and play some games with it later
