Hello and welcome to the second month of Mapper's Monthly! We have spent this week choosing our maps, and we are glad to announce our winners. We have listened to the feedback you have given us, and we hope to make some positive changes. There were a lot of suggestions to switch the pool to 5, previously 8. Last month thanks to the Proam there is a very large group of quality maps to choose from. Previously we averaged around 30 players. One of the biggest problems we had was that some maps were not played on nearly as much as others. To fix this we are going to alter our set up to ensure all maps get equal playing time, or as close as we can get too it. Our pool is made of 8 maps. If we continue to have near 30 players we will have 5 rounds. The first round will have 16 games played, and the next 8. This means that within 2 weeks we will have half our maps with around 10 plays. The next week we will raise that number to 6. The last 2 maps will be used in the round of 4, and finals for those weeks. Then for our finals we will choose the 5/6 (depending on how many players) best maps, and use them. So without further ado our map pool!

The final tournament each month will have a prize pool. -The map pool will be rearranged every week to ensure all maps get equal playing time. -Each month we will choose a new map pool from the previous month, -The map is hosted on: http://www.z33k.com/ -Direct link to the tournament: http://www.z33k.com/games/starcraft2/tournaments/8414-mapper-s-monthly -ESV maps were not included because they have the korean weekly, and we thought it was unfair to other map makers to include maps that have much greater opportunity.
Somehow, there were a ton of mirror match ups in the tournament. Also, some maps were played significantly more than others. Bracket improvements will have to be made for the next tournament.
Braxis IX 6 games played TvZ 2-1 ZvP 2-1
Beelzebub 11 games played TvZ 1-1 PvT 2-1 ZvP 3-3
Quarantine Zone 9 games played TvZ 2-1 PvT 0-2 ZvP 2-2
Aiur Refuge 7 games played TvZ 2-1 PvT 0-1 ZvP 3-0
i think you need to explain this a bit more. the site says 32 players can sign up, but you also describe a ro256/128/64/32/etc, and then the finals is best of 5, is that bo5 on one map?
Cool idea, but I got disappointed when I saw it was for NA only. Good luck though guys, I think each of your maps is better than what is in the ladder pool right now (except the community made maps already there :D)

If we gain more players than 32 we can expand the expected number. 32 players is only the amount we expect.

There was a tournament like this few months ago. 2 people joined, me being one of them. This time I dont think i can join, because my comp wont run sc2 propelly anymore.
This is awesome. I hope this will carry out well and that players will be attracted. How big is the prize pool and how is it divided? 1st + 2 runners up .. or?
The feedbakc this will bring map makers is invaluable.

Playhem offers tournaments for multiple different leagues every day for 2 servers with decent price pools. Also there are tons of weeklies. Blame them.

Thing is, most people don't have any chance of winning playhem, but they still try and if you;d ask them they would day something like tournaments is fun or since it is a better practice then ladder, but when you ask them to join a tournament with no prize pool they see not logic in that, just weird.
I do think there should be some prize though, since without one it does feel like your playing for nothing. I suggest a champion hall, that's what I do in my weekly tournaments (only for my country people), that way people feel they earn something when winning, and I think glory is better then 2-3$ so that might work
On June 29 2012 04:15 MarcusRife wrote: How will we the mapmakers be able to see the games played? How can we get access to the replays?
The tourny will be streamed. You can join the chat channel and ask to spectate the day of the tourny, and you can ask the players for feedback! This tournament is just as much for you as it is for the players. If you have any other ideas for helping the mappers out lemme know!
On June 29 2012 04:02 Guardian85 wrote: When is the line drawn for a "new month" ? is it a spesific date, or is it just 1st of each month?
We have to process the maps under consideration, and release the map pool. This should end about 5 days before the tourny. So once the pool is announced it is final. The pool will, sadly, be updated every month we were originally planning on doing it every 2 weeks, but we could find enough maps on NA to fulfill that.
On June 28 2012 14:12 moskonia wrote: This sounds great, but maybe make a EU version too if this picks? mapping community bit weaker here and it could use the boost
We were hoping to refresh the map pool every 2 weeks and include EU maps. If this is successful we may put a plan into the works we will see
This is a great initiative btw. map testing rly is a problem for everyone but ESV. Unfortunate that map quality has gone done lately, many good mapmaker's gone inactive.

Can you post some more information about where we can find the stream? Will there be an in-game chat channel? etc.

I'm terribly sorry we were on track with 11 players but 3 hours before we were going to go live my power went out and I couldn't host it. We will have it next week I was able to cancel before we began so hopefully some of those players will come back!

I hope so, this is a really cool thing to do, and the mapping community needs the support. With any luck MotM will start heating up at around the same time though, making for an exciting week. We shall see!

Can't blame you for an act of god. Lets keep plugging away.

It's a bit much to ask for an entire tournament a week ahead.
Will there be a live stream? One with vods?
Some feedback-talk with players? Beacause acutal connection of players playing real games on the maps + mapmakers is somethinggreatly valued.
There will be a stream, I will make a thread with exact details about 2 hours before the tourny! There will also be vods! Its much harder for you I am sure but if you have access to an NA account join the chat channel Mapper's Monthly, and you can talk with the players as they play the maps :D!
@Superouman- no, but you're right. Shattered temple was a good map. I didn't actually realize it was upisde down until too late when I was drawing the letters.
I am going to attempt to cast some of the games this Sunday the 22nd at 7 PM PST since there is no one else to do it. Any other map makers want to join me?

That's ok. I haven't either. That's why the more people we have the better. We will definitely be better than last week. There was no real commentary. The stream was laggy and some guy just kept updating how many people were watching every 5 minutes and rapping.
Hey. Thanks so much for choosing Virtual Battle, but I am working on a complete revamp, and I think the map right now has some problems. If you could choose Underwater Paradise/Autumn Woods instead, would that be ok? You can use the map still, it's just I think it's that good haha

EDIT: Or, you could wait for the new version.
We will be using this version of Virtual battle unless your other one is done before sunday.

You guys are awesome, thank you so much for deciding to include my map in there. Overall I really like this pool - the two four player maps are particularly impressive, and there's great variation in the two-player ones (Via Benefico and Ancient Outpost for instace both seem solid and are very different). I'm very much looking forward to this, I'll be sure to try and tune in! And thank you again!
Updated Bazaar to Ver 1.1 Posted on NA Change was the removal of an invincible critter (Lyote) that would have messed with tournament style play, replaced with a normal version (nearly normal anyway, its still scaled 2x big but it dies quick). Will probably reduce down to normal 1x scale unless there is a hilarious outpour of support to keep it.
Thanks for including my map in this ! Currently working on some texture updates for the dirt paths so I'll post an updated image in a post edit when I finish. Currently updating to that 1.5 patch at the moment .
Edit: Here's the updated map pic. It's not a huge update, but I thought I should post it anyways since I made changes to the map . + Show Spoiler +

Hello, my map is uploaded on the arcade. Unfortunately, 1.5 patched messed up the map and the editor, so I couldn't make a new version, nor publish it. Good luck on the tournament

It is on the NA server on the arcade Virtual Battle
Mmm, got a PM that people were having difficulty accessing Galápagos on NA and it seems only two games were played on it - let me know if there is something that requires fixing on my end, I'm not sure what the circumstances were.
Other than that, great stuff, cool to see a decent turnout and I can't wait to check out the VODs and replays!
A lot of people could not access Galapagos on the NA server, I'm not sure what happened, but they seemed to all have an error message about incorrect dependencies when they tried to join. So we played on other maps. Sein, we will try to get an updated (?) version of Galapagos more playtime in the next few weeks. I hope someone can figure out what is wrong... Patch 1.5 is silly Other than that, the tournament was a great success.

Ah, okay that makes sense - it's a 1.5 issue where suddenly you're not supposed to have a multiplayer dependency or something. I'll have a look into it and update you guys if I manage to fix it. It's not a problem, though I hope it didn't mess things up too much with the tournament. Glad to hear the rest of it went well!
I saw that you had problems finding some of the maps. For example, you couldnt find my map, Sacred Sands, when you searched for the whole name, but just searching for "sacred" or "sands" should work. This goes for all maps with spaces in the name.
Really nice tournament anyway. I have watched about half of the matches now.
edit: Also, you should hit Ctrl+N when the game starts.

Yeah our streamer was sick so he didn't do great, but hopefully it will go better next time !
Very cool I will use this next month! Is it possible that you can resize the the first banner to a width of 600 pixels, and a height of 100? That is the format for the logo on z33k
Wow! The production level is FREAKING good! Well done you guys.
I'm sad that he thought that he can warp there I guess I'd put more doodads do make sure it's clear. I mean the protoss was pretty bad (3:0) but it is still confusing I guess.
Watched the games last night and a little on my lunch break. Bazaar apparantly has a few bugs that need to be addressed ASAP.
1) Watchtower is not rendering correctly.
I think this is due to 1.5 tacking on a couple modifiers to the watch tower actor incorrectly when it should not have. I will be completely reverting the watchtower to b.net melee standard and re-working it from there.
2) Creep tumors (completed) can be seen without use of a detector.
I am not currently sure if this is the result of an incorrect upload to b.net (or rather a 1.5 patch issue) or if it is in the map file. I know I did not touch creep tumors during the creation of the map -- but hey, that doesn't mean jack squat necessarily. If anyone else has experienced this that would be great. In my testing o fthe map I never encountered this particular issue though.
3) Mineral lines need to be checked once again, I thought I noticed a mistake on one of them (at the least--however not gamebreaking from how the game played out). This may just be me imagining it though.
This tournament is awful. I played it once and met one of the most bm players i've faced... I told the admin that he kept on during the whole game and that i only played it for fun and too troll (i were master, he were silver-low gold....) I lost the game and he kept BM'ing afterwards aswell. I said that i could provide screen shoots and or replay but the admin weren't interested at all in helping me... He just said that i had to live with it. And the maps are usually bad imo...

I remember you, but you have to understand that I did deal with the situation. You lost the game, and I gave your opponent a warning. If his next opponent had complained I would have banned him right then and there. No one did. The fact of the matter is he won the game I cannot discredit a win due to one instance of bad manner. I really hope you understand!

So the tournament sucks because you lost a match to a player in a way lower league and decided you'd try and get him disqualified on grounds of being bad mannered? And failed? Or is it because you signed up and then realized you didn't like the map pool of a tournament created specifically to give exposure some of the more low-profile to community maps?

One of the biggest points of the tournament is to give less prestigious map-makers play data on their maps, so they can improve them. Why would you expect the map pool to be something like GSL quality? Sounds to me like you signed up without reading what it was actually about. It's called Mapper's Monthly for a reason. o_O As for BM, Veloh already addressed that.
