For the last two weeks, Slime(not me) has uploaded two awesome maps on US server. Xel'Naga Caverns and Steepes of War
1.It allows up to 15 people to join the game.
2.Emulates KOTH(King of the Hill style)format
3.Has the minimum requirement for ob interface(awesome smart cam) Eg. Resource, Army Pop, APM, Resources lost, In game timer
4.Blocks incoming whispers for players that are playing(busy status or not)
5. Critters for observers XD(doesn't block Xel'Naga towers or building placements)
6. Typing "GG" will prompt a surrender screen =O
7. You can place bets on who would win!
I think people from many ranges would enjoy this map, and is definitely what Blizzard missed from their Match making system. Though not perfect, I hope slime would continue to make more Obs maps for other GSL maps.
Currently Xel'Naga Caverns is top 5 on the popular list. ENJOY!

Whats the difference between this and just playing a normal melee game w/ observers? Also set the classification to Melee, its taking up space on the Custom list.

I wasn't aware you can join a game with observers in the public, only with friends. If there is, please let me know.

The 1v1 Obs map allow the observers to bet on the people who are playing. In simplest terms it gets the observers more involved in the game.

he just told you what the difference is, spectators can control NPC's and the maps allow observers in automatic custom game joining which isn't possible with normal blizzard maps. normal blizzard maps only allow 2 (in 1v1)people when you join a game from the custom list. This is useful for people who don't have a community they follow but want to observe games by just auto joining a game through b.net.
I think it's cool but it was dumb to have done steppes first when not many good players like that map and I'm sure most people would much rather observe better players.

It definitely helps if there's no obs games available for you to join and it's better than constantly re-making rooms and re-inviting everyone, but Steppes first was definitely questionable. I look forward to trying it out more now that he added Xel'Naga Caverns.

It hurts that the obs can force the game to end by voting, I had a game end because I was "map hacking" despite not doing any such thing. I was enjoying that game too. Haven't played the map since.

I have been playing these games for a few days, they are a lot of fun. Sometimes it is good just to observe while at the same time talking to the other observers in the games - at other times it is good to play and try and get tips on what you did right or wrong. The betting is kinda cool as well.

way too many people takes forever to play even one game cut it to 8 people or something would be nice so ppl don't have to wait for 1.5 hrs to play one game

Most of the games that I have played, people agree to start it at about 8-10 people unless it is filling up very fast. What then happens is that a few drop out and you end up with 6-8. From there there is often a few people that want to play - and some that don't want to play - just observe. I am guessing that the 15 number is just a max - you start it when you want. 10 might be a good number otherwise.

Okay so you added some features to a normal melee game, but please recategorize it and get it off the list of "custom games" because its technically a "melee" map and all its doing is making it harder for real custom games to get played. If you class it as a custom map it appears on the custom filter.

I've tried playing it, HOLY SHIT IT'S FREAKIN HILARIOUS. You should get the state of the game guys, stick them in this map and laugh.

I play it all the time, very cool map. It's a shame it doesnt allow you to see what has/hasn't been upgraded but thats about my only complaint.

I really like this map. I messed around on it alot today. Can't wait to see more maps like this. Metalopolis would be really nice.

It is indeed a great map and interface etc. Only problem really is if there's too many ppl that want to play, but ofc you can just host your own with friends or start with less people.
I was hoping the creator of this thread was Slime, but apparently not. Darn it, there's no way to give feedback to him no character code, no email, no nothing haha.

It's possible though, if theres a few people working on it and they each do one map? then again the maps might change over time (GSL changes, ladder changes)

Once someone wins, it randomly selects another player from the observers, and a new game starts. The game doesn't actually "end" unless you leave (end, as in leave to the score screen). You just keep playing with that set of people KOTH style

I don't know if this functionality exists already, but it would be good (and not too hard) to add functionality where it will match a player who hasn't played yet over a player who has played
An issue is that hiding the chat doesn't really work, since not only can you quickly see what it says before it gets removed, but people can type unhindered during lag screens. In addition, players can load the message log to see what observers have said.
a feature I really want that am annoyed doesn't exist, is having it so that minerals and supply values are displayed a top top right (as if you were in the game) depending on which player is selected. Other things like seeing their queued actions, selecting multiple units, and seeing whether an upgrade is done or not would also be helpful, but I'm sure are much more difficult to do or impossible.

Consider turning it into a tournament format, so as to make it more of a custom game and not just continuous 1v1 with fake observers.
If possible, maybe duplicating the map 2,3,4 etc times, however many the map will run smoothly, and set up an automatic laddering system. If you add 1 more spot on list it can be Ro8, or you can keep it at 15 and give 1 player a bye. Have as many games as possible running at once, the Ro8 would have no observers, but as people get knocked out, people start to observe the games, as well as the games start to get of higher calibur, as the better players play on.
Implementing a draw to see the tournament progress, and making betting a bet on who will win the tournament, or individual rounds, would also make it more worth while.
Just my thoughts on what would make the map more fun, of course this all rests on whether or not you can get multiple games running, but they have 4v4 maps I'm sure you could have 4 - 1v1s on a map as well, just split them with non pathable space.

it works pretty damn well, so far it allows each person to play once before repeating, you can play as many games as you like until people leave the game. Everything about it is great except this, you can't do multiple maps that rotate. It would be awesome if this could happen although I suppose that would be quite difficult to do or perhaps impossible. Other than that, it's great, but yeah I watched and played about an 1hr and 30 minutes all on xelnaga which was fun but yea i felt like i wanted a new map.

Critters can be unlocked doing little things, which can be done pretty easily. Each observer can control up to one critter per game.

this happened in one of the games i played. player A wins player B Player A spams mules and they stuck around. player A plays player C player C is random player A steals player C's minerals with mules and scouts his race.
made me pissed mad. should be fixed if possible.

People seem to leave really fast once someone goes on a streak. -_-
Just got called a one basing noob that can't macro by someone who thought I was one-basing. I stomped him obviously (actually expanded earlier than him, but I built CC in base which he didn't see). He then messaged me and put me on ignore hahah.

The mule bug is annoying, there is another bug too:
If a critter is blocking a place where a building is gonna be made something will happen.
If the SCV has a rally point AFTER the production of a building and a critter is blocking the building, the critter will die but the SCV will go to the rally point as if it finished building. This is pretty bad because I know most terrans build something, then rally back to minerals but you can seriously screw over someones build order if they aren't watching.
I think the critters need to go imo, or there should be an option to vote them out of the game because they can actually interfere with the game. They can also take xelnaga watch towers, yes they die if you try to steal a tower but time it right and you can steal the tower at the perfect moment when a banshee is flying through it or something critical like that.
I also don't like the vote option to allow spectators to chat, some real immature bronze players do this and the game can be ruined.
I think TL should have a chat channel for this game because I'm rather sick of bronzies ruining everything, yea I know there is a chat channel already for this but it sucks, we should make our own for intelligent people who want to play and not ruin things for everyone.

This is a great map! Chatting with your friends while two of them go at it is a wonderful experience. But what really blew me away was the smart cam. I can finally snack and watch matches! Thank. You. The only critic I have is that the clock doesn't reset itself at the end of a match, it's no big deal but it makes me feel weird starting a game at the 38 minute mark.

This is fun! Incoming chat blocking is flawed, though. You can sometimes see things in the message log, and you can open the chat window from the friends list to read things from friends. Also, I played against a couple of wise guys (who didn't abuse the chat), and the observing one would use his critter to signal important things to his ally. I guess they made a code ahead of time. I remember that spawning different critters meant different things, and there were a few other cues, like spinning it in a circle meant get detection and having it pace at the edge of vision would mean an attack was coming from that direction.

If this map had it so 2 games were watchable at once, maps could be switched. It would be the greatest map of all time. I think Blizz should make it happen, next time as the next map they make (airu chef, etc.)

Is it possible for ladder ranks to be imported into the game from Bnet, so that the bets can be more informed, and also to provide more accurate odds.

Reason it's more popular is because Xel'Naga is by far the most popular map. If there was some way to introduce a production tab inside that would be wicked.

Really like this map. Like mentioned once or twice, if possible to choose which map to play, might me a real pain to load, not sure if it's even possible.
Was on a nice winning streak, and sometimes there is a lot of people that want to play, however if there isn't I like showing off my skills ;P Overall a well made map.

If the players couldnt hear voice chat that would be nice. There could a caster role perhaps?

played this with a group of friends from another forum and it was GREAT
I imagine it might not be great in a pub depending on how people act (not in game, hey anything goes, but I mean things like vote spam or something like that) but I'll probably give it a shot

I tried it and it was nice. The only bad part is that 90% of ppl leave when they dont play (was a pub game).
Other then that, it's pretty good !
p.s. I didn't read the whole thread but there is a small bug. I was playing TvZ and when I was missing supply, i had the Zerg message "spawn more overload" :D Same thing for when a research is finish

great map, wish we could get a few more map selections though! Only issue I have is all the pets can get quite annoying when you are trying to build in your base

but, this map wasn't made by blizzard lol, xel naga was taken from blizzard and transformed into this mod. So blizz won't make anything happen as far this map is concerned, that's up to the one who made this.

Saw a bug while playing: If an observer says something in all chat, the people playing can look at the message log to see what was typed. This could lead to one person giving info on to the player he bet on like in my game...

Are these maps supposed to save the credits and critters that you win? Cuz I won 3 games in a row then everybody quit and the next time I tried to play I didnt have anything I won Im just asking cuz i was told by some one in game that I should have at least my little critters but I dont know if I was getting trolled or not

I'd like to see an obs map for some custom maps, like those in the gsl, or some of the iccup maps. It's extremely difficult to get a good game on one of those maps, besides with friends, and i'd love to see more. Ob's is fun, and gives a good reason for one to play normal maps as custom games.

No, this is a custom game, and its different from a normal one because you stay in ONE game rather then inviting people over and over again to different lobbies each time you obviously havent played this, sodont knock it till you try it

Great idea for a map, played it quite a bit today with both pubbies and friends, but does anyone else find it a bit hit or miss with lag (delayed inputs)? Got some pretty hefty delay at times, the first game had the full 15/16 players and was laggy, next game I cut it off at like 6 and it played pretty well. Both on Xel Naga. Then played a game with 6 friends on Steppes, and it was also laggy.
Wondering if it was a coincidence or the map?

theres a bit of delayed input lag issues but otherwise this is absolutely brilliant, the smart camera features not bad, the voting system is really coo land encourages people to stay, and overall its just really fun and is perfect for koth. i hope to see more games like this started online because this is a great alternative to the standard koth.

Problems with the map that need fixed:
Can't select a unit and hold 'v' to see their player's vision.
No access to the units tab.
Players in the game can see chat by looking at the chat log, even though they aren't supposed to be able to see obs chat unless the obs vote it through.

I think there should be 3-4 maps in one custom map. So then each round can be voted on what the next map should be without leaving the game. There should also be a votekick option...

Now my problem with this is, THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY FUCKING CRITTERS ALL OVER MY BASE. It has gotten to the point where the mass amount of critters has messed with micro wars, I just lost a match cause I couldn't surround a zealot that was using a critter to prevent being surrounded. As well, user controlled critters can prevent buildings from being built, this should be fixed. I like the fact that users can control critters and have a little fun while they wait, however I hate the fact that there are 10 extra useless critters that spawn in your main when you play(checking the don't spawn critters in my base box in the rewards section does not prevent this from happening, no matter what I get 20 critters all over my base.) most people put their buildings in pre-determined places, and where there is 7 critters sitting there it becomes impossible, and something as silly as critters should not have an outcome on the game.
user critters = good useless extra computer controlled critters = stupid as hell

so fun! i like how most people are lower level so if you're even halfway decent you can go on crazy streaks :p
the one suggestion i would have is to make future versions on non-blizzard maps (like gsl maps, for instance), which could introduce newer players to them and let people practice on them easily.

Had a pretty fun time in this map last night.
The highlight was a player called Prodigy ragequitting, calling me a "fucking n1gger" and immediately putting me on 'ignore' after I stomped him.
Maybe I'll see some of you guys in there today. ^^

I really wish people wouldn't have this attitude. It's a custom game, bronze players are perfectly entitled to play just as much as masters are.
If you want to see high level play, go to the "tlkoth" channel, there's usually a KOTH going on, so you can obs higher level games there.
It's just really annoying when two low level players are having fun and you've got some douchebag bitching about how terrible they are and that everyone should vote to end the game. Then when the game's over, said douchebag makes fun of the players.
Luckily, they're the minority, most players seem pretty mannered from my limited experience.

Have to realize the majority of the population of Starcraft is below diamond 80% consist of plat and lower, and the level of play is barely noticeable until you hit diamond, where actual build orders start.

Our group though had a lot that enjoyed watching AND playing, and didn't all just want to play.
In regards to lower players, it's awesome for them. They can get an idea of some higher level games, with the camera in their control.

This can take up to a whole 5 seconds, screwing you the hell over if you're trying to wall-in fast against a 6 pool.
Observers can also ruin cheeses by leading players to proxy buildings with their critters.

Critters aside, this map is awesome. Great way to find some practice. Also, if you don't want low leaguers in your game go to the chat channel and make your own.

I would like some side activity available for observers. Maybe an unscrambler or trivia in observer chat.
Betting just doesn't cut it and it gets tiring watching bronze-level play four games in a row.

My entire computer froze/crashed the last two times I played this map. I was able to play it successfully a time or two, but since then it crashes the first time it's my turn to play instead of observe. I'm able to observe just fine, for many games, but as soon as I start my turn my computer freezes (sound stops, screen freezes, can't ctrl+alt+del). It's very frustrating when you wait 45 minutes to play and then your comp crashes. Anyone else having this problem?
If the map creator checks this thread, please fix this soon!

Its only disconnected me once from that map, but it does feel like 2-3 people will "auto-leave" as soon as the game starts.
They are probably suffering from similar issues.

yes random works... but If you're terran race (terran interface and all) and you choose Random and get you zerg. When you have no minerals, it will say that in Terran voice. and supply cap, it'll tell you to make supply depots.

Oh yeah I'd like to say, sometimes the critters do block building placements. I don't remember the conditions though, but it has to do with the timing of when you order your worker to build, when the critter is in the way, and when the building tries to be placed.
It's quite annoying really, although fun as an observer to screw someone up just a tad .
Also, where the eff is Slime? Doesn't seem he's on TL. I'd like him to make more maps... haha. I know of no email or anything to contact him at. I'd like to see his mod for other maps. It shouldn't be hard right? If he saved all the features as mod or whatnot, you can just add those mods on a different map right? Or is my knowledge of the map editor wrong.

Oh yes definitely! I understand privacy where you can't read what the other team/opponent is saying in games you play (although annoying sometimes) but that would be sweet for this map specifically.

Please create different versions of this custom game. Xel'naga Caverns is a great map, but Steppes of War isn't. I've played hours of Xel'naga Caverns, and frankly, I'm a little bit sick of it. We're limited to one map on this amazing custom. It's fun to play with friends or public to show off your skills. It allows players to practice without anything to worry about (ladder ranking, points, etc)
Please create this custom, but for different maps. Give us the ability to choose the map or create different versions (Lost Temple, Metalopolis, etc). If anything, let us know how to make customs like this so we can set it up ourselves.

Great UMS but the people that I play with are getting sick of xel naga so much they even cross it out on map pref >< Can you make the 1v1 on metal or LT or maybe even a rotation if that is some how possible.

by the way, theres a glitch. If your terran and you win, you can call down mules just as the you win thing comes up, and those mules will stay. If you call down like 10 mules and choose zerg you can 6pool instantly and win your next game

How long does the mule stay? and I thought there was a 30 second period before another game starts. Oh well still a bug if its the case :S

Im not sure if its been addressed but another problem is that observers can pause the game. If you have 14 ppl watching and all of them mass pausing/unpausing it basically ruins everything. Is there anyway to fix this?

Anyway, the issue I have that some people have maybe mentioned (I just don't have the time to read through all the posts) is:
- Critters can block buildings. Critters should all use the flying mover or something, so that they don't block stuff. At the least, critters should have a footprint of 0 or near 0 or something.
- critters die if a building was built near them. WTF is with this? critters can block buildings, but can't be near buildings? it makes almost no sense whatsoever.
- Winning a game should earn extra points over time (due to observers gaining extra free points each round causing inflation). Winning multiple games in a row
should add a multiplier for points gained as well. Let's say +0.25x for each previous win
- Players who have played less games than other players should be given priority to play over any players who have played more games than them. This is not hard to implement
Also, while I've seen a lot of people more recently with the ursadak male/titan, I can only assume that most if not all of them just hacked it in, or fed eachother games just to get it. I think a critter achievement like that that is not obtainable in 99% of normal play/ob games is stupid - especially considering that you gain a fixed amount of points for winning (no win streak multipliers), and that the betting system is rather messed up (extremely difficult to gain lots of points).

you can get 1 round of minerals in before the mules expire

i followed the steps above, when trying to open the map, i get an error: Dependency data could not be loaded. Dependency file could not be found (Mods\1v1obs.SC2Mod) Continue anyway?

I've tried about 2 more times since that first post and my comp has crashed both times as soon as it's my turn. Sound stops, then a few seconds later I can't move my mouse any more. Then I have to press my comps reset button.
Does this happen to anyone else? Also, if a new version is released, is there anyway for me to know? I'd like to try every time it's updated, but I don't know how to check.

Map is great. Where is Slime we need this mod file.
Since you can't set the name of the game when creating I'd like to just rename the file to 1v1 Obs - Map Name - Gold and Under , so that you can more easily create instances with people at similar levels.

anyway, just an update of the 1v1 obs maps in the SEA server.
Both metalopolis and lost temple are made into 1v1 obs maps and not sure if you guys like this idea but these 2 maps are made that close positions are not possible.
Of cos, all credits are given to Slime( Smart Camera?! how cool is that? )but i love to be able to get hold of Slime somehow to ask if this is totally ok with him.
I heard there are plans to make 1v1 obs map of the GSL maps, but not entirely sure about that tho.

Im the person that put up the Metalopolis on SEA/NA and atm currently close spawns should work but I think the lost temple 1v1 obs doesn't have close spawns (I think the porter was asking to get in contact with me to talk about fixing it).
I did not really want to do it without slimes permission but from what Ive gathered contact wasn't possible and the maps are too good. I will delete them if told to just let me know and I feel guilty when it publishes it with my acc name though everything else is credited towards Slime.
I was planning on doing the GSL maps but i figured not many ppl would be interested but we'll see. I was going to try to upload it on EU but I have no way of trying to without an acc so currently SEA/Na.

Last night I sent Renz I think the file for metalapolis but the thing is currently I am using dependencies uploaded to battle.net by Slime himself for the NA/Sea version of metalopolis. Im not really a wiz with the editor and only just recently opened it for the first time when I decided to give porting the obs game a try (Due to it being an amazingly and oddly fun custom).
Sooo I don't think EU will be able to get a copy until Slime does actually upload it himself.

I haven't been able to practice for the last week so instead of screwing up my rating I've been playing this map, it's a ton of fun. The one thing that bugs me is that if the game doesn't end and the first or second push, the observers will vote to let the players hear them. "OMG wut r u doin ATTACK AREALDYZ, HE DOESN't haVE ANYTIN" and then the game is ruined.

Just a suggestion but how hard would It be to put 2 or 3 maps in one and let the players choose which map to play as well, because that would be sick.
and you should let the players spawn civilians without pre-requisite
I do love this though I wish there was another map because I refuse to play on steppes

Just found a bug. If you build something right before someone ends the game. It will show up in the next game. So when I was playing I had an extra nexus at natural lol.

Showing my love for these maps it's fun to play over and over without rejoining...if only there was a way to set a league filter for each game so you could do big pools of players in only certain leagues without gathering people ahead of time, I suppose I can dream. Sorry to bump an old thread, but some people have been pm'ing me as I was the person that converted slime's original obs map over to some of the other maps. Slime contacted me and said he would be putting up new maps and that's why I removed all my other versions of his map, but apparently he has been MIA again and I've had people piling up asking me still.
Soo once again I have decided to try and add some new maps to the 1v1 obs pool (Although it seems Peepmode is a better replacement some people still ask for Slime's version). So far the following maps have been put up (I'll keep editing this post as the list grows). **Also used a different naming convention as to save Slime troubles if he does come back and continue work**
- Observer: GSL Dual Sight
This is on NA atm and will be on SEA in a bit.
