I have two maps that I worked on for quite some time. Both are 1v1, and both have different tastes and play styles attached.
I'm not that great at making map threads so forgive me.
Ashir Dulan: http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/GameWorlds/JungleTest5.jpg
Tarsonis Stronghold: http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/GameWorlds/TarsonisStronghold.jpg
Any chance TL can sponsor/feature/support them? I really want my maps to be played... a lot of diamond players have said they should be in some ladder pool. I feel the same, but I know them spreading it to their buddies isn't going to cut it. I'd need them to be public. They both are very detailed close up in the game, so the images themselves aren't going to reveal a whole lot.
Quick note.. the map images on screenshots and the loading screen always appear to be reversed/upside down. Not sure why.
So... comments? If there are any ideas or concerns about the maps please do tell.

I think you're totally right. Your maps should be officially promoted before all the other ones that are created by tons of mapmakers who are submitting their work for months now.
And now on a serious note. You either have to accept that people who aren't in the iCCup team have a chance close to zero to ever get their maps played publicly or you start organizing tournaments with your maps.
Cheers

Unfortunately I don't use the TL forums since... ever. I did not know dozens of map makers are thinking the same thing as I am. So please don't attack me for that. mk

what he is saying is if you dont ever come to these forums and you make a thread asking for your stuff to be featured like you 100% deserve it
these forums are constantly being updated by other map makers and only a sliver of them actually get something featured.

On a side note... the first one looks very cool except for the 2 entrances to the natural

Those maps look very cool.

I think it works great, the flow of the map seems awesome, definitly liking the first one, not so much the second one. It does seem heavily terran favoured now that i think about it more, probably why i love it oh so much.

You'd be better off with a more proactive approach. Send PM's to people who host tournaments. Ask them if they would use one/both of your maps sometime. Keep making quality maps. Who knows, maybe one day people will look back and say "he's the best mapper ever!"
Don't make a post "begging" people to play your map. It's not going to work.
|
I'm sorry guys I didn't mean for it to come out as if i'm "begging" people to play it. I didn't come on here with the knowledge that every other map maker had the same dream in mind. I was told to come on here and give it a shot because tons of diamond players who tested my map said "this should be on team liquid" or "this should be in blizzard's ladder pool" (which i don't fully agree with either).
So anyway, if i could change the title, I would, but I can't. I have to live with the fact that 100 people read the title and moved on without reading further.
Any constructive feedback or comments on my maps so far would be appreciated however.

I would like to try the maps against friends, any chance to find them on european server or for download?

I wish more maps would be featured on the front page of Team Liquid but I haven't seen any. Though I don't always pay attention to the front page. I would love to see some of the people who have been doing a lot of good work to get some recognition.

This is news to me, is there an archive of past featured maps?

Is the key part there. Would be kinda a neat feature. Some type of map contest that the winner gets their map in a round of the TL open or some such.

First off, you probably ought to check out sc2mapster.com--they feature maps all the time.
A bit of advice on the side, there's thousands of mappers out there who want nothing more than for their best melee map to make it into the ladder map pool, but of course there's a tiny few who will actually achieve that. The problem is you are just, like me, a completely random guy who likes to make maps. If you want people who do not know you to play your maps, you need to develop a reputation (think Testbug or Nightmarejoo--those guys have great reputations and tons of people who like to test their maps). Just be patient and do your best, and above all else, start humble. We all look back and laugh at the old maps we thought were the greatest thing since Lost Temple...
And some general criticism of your maps, the first one looks really cool but there's a couple of things I would change. First off, there being two entrances into the natural is a concern (one of them allowing an opponent to completely bypass the nat and head up to the main). I'd try adding destructible rocks or the like. The middle also seems real tough to flank and maneuver because the high ground paths are pretty skinny. Other than that, the only potential problem I see is the mineral setup around the thirds. If a base was setup and saturated, it might be tough for an army to walk through it.
The second map seems like a two player version of metalopolis with a backdoor entrance, so I don't have a lot to say about it.
Happy mapping!

I actually like the idea of having a monthly TL map making contest to coincide with the TLOpen. That would be a really cool feature to add to the tournament to give it a community feel. I really like seeing people play on different maps other than the blizzard maps, which is why I have been spending so much time watching the iCCup stream. It's nice to have a new injection of flavor into a tournament, and a map is a great way to do it.
The only problem would have to be finding someone to officially go through all of the submissions and view all of the layouts to find the one they felt suited the tournament best. This would be a cool way to get your name out there as a mapmaker in the early stages of SC2.
It is a nice idea to throw out there, all practicalities aside.

Honestly, only the Ashir Dulan one looks interesting. The other one really looks bland and quite symmetrical.

I kinda agree, there are soooo many chokes and highground possibilities in this map. Although the highground at the natural expansion is blocked off by tree's it seems..

we need a map of the month competition! the community should promote a jury of three + the last month winner. this would get people into putting more thought into these maps and a few non iccup maps would get some attention. they are not that bad. iccup maps should alo be allowed.
also the number of submissions should be limited: you can only take part twice with every map and only one map per mapmaker. otherwise it would be to many maps.
if you bind the map of the month competiton to maps that are published in a specific month there will be even less maps. the jury should be able to judge the maps by the images (map analyzer) if they even hav a chance to win, sothat it takes less time to go through all entries.
