(this is my second time typing this cause I am a noob and accidentally deleted it once >.< so this will be a short version)
I have a challenge for mappers! I wanted to see if it was possible to make a good map that includes all the new features from SCII and some old features from BW. The map that wins this contest may be in the map pool for a competitive tournament! When we have all the maps submitted I am going to add a poll so that everyone can vote on their favorite map that they want to win the contest!
Requirements:
-can use any titleset -can be a two spawn, or a four spawn (no shared bases, designed for 1v1, two lines of symmetry) -has to be your map: no BW remakes, etc.
Terrain Stuff I'd Like To See:
-backdoor entrance to main via destructible rocks with line of sight blockers in a half circle around them (like in Blistering Sands) -large main with nearby natural expansion -line of sight blockers in the mains other than the destructible rocks for staging drops/nydus and for potential proxies (compare to Metalopolis) -cliffs behind/near naturals for harassment -at least two watchtowers in the center of the map out of sight range from each other, and no more than four watchtowers maximum on the map -line of sight blockers somewhere out near the center of the map -no more than two high yield expansions with 6 crystals, 2 gas, and destructible rocks preventing Terran from lifting off early on (haha) -hard-to-control third and fourth bases (one of these can be one of the required high yield expansions if there are two on your map) -relatively open area of the map in the middle -at least one island, no more than two (2 spawn map only) with 7 crystals two gas -at least two islands, no more than four (4 spawn map only) with 7 crystals 2 gas -at least one semi-island expansion (blocked by destructible rocks, like the high ground bases in Kulas Ravine or the expansions in the lower right and left portions of Scrap Station)
You cannot mix and match any of the bases mentioned above (semi-island natural is a no-no you can't cover two bases listed above with only one base, if you know what I mean) and all normal expansions should have 8 crystals 2 gas, including your main. the only exceptions are high yield bases (6 crystals) and islands (7).
I'm excited to see if anyone can make a good map with those requirements, I thought it would be a fun idea since the beta's down D: and we are all suffering from withdrawal syndrome.

I will update this thread with any new ideas I want people to include in their maps. Also, if I am doing anything wrong with the forums or something plz tell me so I don't wind up spamming TL or doing more stupid posts so if this post is stupid tell me so I won't do anymore stupid things )

You are offering no reward for the best map?
So basically you just want someone to create a map that fits your needs without doing it yourself.

No not at all. I just wanted to present something for people who are waiting for the beta to go back up. I do not want the map at all - and this is not a contest - it's for fun. Just something to pass time while the beta is down.
EDIT: I just wanted to see what people would come up with or whether or not it's a cool and fun idea for a map or not at all.

A good incentive or reward for the best map should be its used in a series for a tournament. You should PM somebody organizing a tournament in the SC2 Tournament thread and see if they would be willing to use the best map for this contest. If i were a map creator i would be so proud to see my map used in a match point for a series with some of my favorite players using it. Thats just touching on the "reward" topic touched on by OpRaider

That's actually a pretty good idea!
I'll see if anyone hosting a tournament or anything will be interested in a map! Otherwise, I have to change the post a little, but that's no big deal. I think that is a really good idea though, so I'll see what I can do.

Remove the lava rule please. Part of the map im planning to make, then enter, revolves around the char aesthetics.

Ok I sent a PM to one guy who's planning on hosting a tourny. He didn't say anything about a map pool - but was talking a lot about getting pro-SCII players in the tourny, so we may get to see TLO play on the map that wins this contest!

Should we have a poll to decide the winning map or do we need something a bit more anonymous? Unless can polls be made anonymous?

Not sure if asking people to follow a strict guideline is best specially at this stage. I would prefer to see tournaments with best custom maps instead of a map meeting certain requirements in a contest getting into a tournament. Attention to custom maps is good but it could potentially hurt community if map gets into tournament and isn't good enough. How many maps even have potential to be good that don't follow guidelines 3?

Could I follow these rules? It seems like I'm making your map with from your specific instructions .
-1v1 or 2v2 (2 lines of symmetry) -LoS blockers in base -back door to main -easy natural -at least one island expansion/semi-island -2 to 4 Xel'Naga watchtowers -2 or less high yield expos -big main -hard to control 3rd and 4th base
If I can't, I will still work on a map. Just thought a little lee-way would help.
