Being emotionally invested in a player makes the games so much more enjoyable to watch. So I chose the national option.

The thing is that I am so rarely impressed by the "best" players. If I have to watch a mistake-ridden, mechanically mediocre play anyway, the slight differences in quality and level of play don't really matter.

But frankly, a combination of the three is always the best. That's why semi-invite semi-open systems seem to work well.

In any case I always prefer the tournament with the highest caliber of players possible. Which is why I will probably be less psyched for the actual world championship than I was for the Korean qualifier.

I also chose to ignore the home nationality part when choosing the up and comer part. Whether the up and comer is Korean/Polish/NA/Chinese/Martian, whatever, it's always fun to watch a player grow from invisibility to the spotlight. If I stopped getting best vs best, I'd be pretty disappointed though.

This poll left out a few options it seems. eg. qxc, Mvp, NaDa (before retiring ofc)

This poll seems to imply we could only have players from one of the two categories. Thankfully all tournaments have both. Maybe not rising talent so much as underdogs however.

I prefer to watch huge open brackets with both best players and unknowns. So that we see rising stars in actions proving their valor. If the best players play against the best, you don't really know who's lacking skills recently. If rising stars play against other national talents, you only see a mid level tournament with some winner defeating low-mid level players. If both get matched up, you can truly see everyone's valor. That's why i like MLGs.Who would have put EifeR or goswser in a tournament featuring the best players ?

I prefer watching the best players that I actually know something about, for the same reason that I watch my garbage soccer league instead of high-profile leagues - cos I can get emotionally invested, I know them, and in the case of SC, I even played some of them. Random (not derogatory, I hope it's clear) koreans just raise 0 interest in me, even if they qualified for being good players

I always root for my country (although really I root for NA, no I am not really from Djiabouti thats just a joke), if Idra, Scarlett, Huk or Illusion (various ROOT except Destiny) play I root for them and defend them in chat. I will not outright refuse to watch Kvs.K games if they are good. Makes me a bit furious when I see someone root for the Korean guy over a American though. I just am nationalistic... character flaw maybe. I feel like, did your mom bring you up to be a traitor! LOL Just exaggerating but you know what I am sayin.

then somewhere in the latter half of 2011 the whole scene got so big that there's high level play on every corner every single day, the amazing plays that make you go OOH are few and far between, and there's swarms of faceless korean pros that tell me nothing except "generic very high level korean player", which bores the shit out of me - doesn't help with the boredom that comes with the skill level at every echelon having plateaued quite noticeably for the better part of this past year problem is, i can't really watch the pitiful performances of westerners even with their occasional glimpses of brilliance a la Naniwa if they don't make a big splash in a tournament against heavyweights, having been spoiled by seing the scene rise from nothing in the early days of beta and spectated through the rise of the big personalities and the few BIG champions this game has produced so nowadays, new talent is what i'd rather watch any day of the week. but only as long as it's new TALENT, if you know what i mean.

The actual problem is that there is barely any rising non-korean talent. All the crying about 'they're all koreans' is flat out pathetic. You should be crying about how the western teams, all with significantly more money and sponsorships than the korean teams, are failing to produce talent and are instead hanging on to players that haven't been relevant in terms of gameplay since early beta. It's the 'foreign' teams failing you, not tournament organizers.

It might not be the highest quality games but I find more fun in cheering for it. That´s also why I don´t watch the English/Spanish football competitions but the Dutch. The English/Spanish games are much better in quality on average but I just don´t have an emotional investment or connection with those teams.

I also really liked the WCS format this year because having a bunch of sub-tournaments limited by nation and then region gave some rising talent a fighting chance and let us really get a look at what's out there. A Korean will probably win it all, but I'm glad I got to see a Europe-only tournament and an NA-only tournament before then.

Favourite players > Best players > Rising players.... is correct. I rarely watch any matches without a zerg opponent also so that is probably the biggest part for me... Although if we got some pro's who really didn't like each other that could make for some interesting matches too. For all the team owners out there if you really want to be successfull don't forget to teach your players some PR skills along with SC2 strats

the issue is the "best rising players" end up usually getting destroyed by "the best possible competition" so maybe a super high quality tournament, and a more "hype" tournament consisting of "GSTL" players who show amazing plays but don't do well in individual leagues. That's just an example but I think it'd be nice.

TSL4 just feels nameless to me and the only loss a Korean had to a foreigner is when Hyun stomped Major then decided to let him win the series. Would be much more exciting if the Koreans involved were Nestea/MC/MarineKing who were dominating the tournament. I know the format of the TSL is meant to get the best current players and not the players that are the fan favorites, but the tournament started out with only a couple people who I actively wanted to follow, and I feel like that is more important than the "top" players of the time.

BOTH are important I mean come on if everyone only watched the NFL and didn't pay any attention to the minor leagues for college, teens etc where would talent come from? This question is badly thought out although I'm sure the intentions behind it are good. I want starcraft to raise its amateur players in the west, honestly this scene gets so caught up with the named players that it forgets that these guys come from somewhere, how about those of us that spend 6 hours a day plus trying to become professional players, yes we exist some of us have even finished university and have forgone jobs (I'm fine with this) to try and chase this dream, yet the starcraft scene continues to shit on us by inviting known, paid and sponsored players to opportunities and continuing this vicious cycle. Wake the fuck up TL and StarCraft take care of your amateurs, trust me I'd like to run my own league to help out my fellow amateurs but I am trying to be a player not a caster, and not an organizer yet anyway. I'm sure I'm going to get some flack for what I've said here or even get ignored/unnoticed in the sea of one sentence replies. But please, for once lets ask ourselves where our pro players come from and make the transition not necessarily easier but less luck based. I apologize for my grammar english is not my native tongue. Chill out dude. It's a poll where you make a choice.

And no, I don't say that because of Stephano (though it could be joked about in this thread), but rather because both are interesting to me... I want to see the best players because the matches will be epic (generally *cough*), but I also like a lot seeing rising players, and especially french players (though they aren't any rising player in the french scene atm imo...)
