Balance-wise of course it needs a ton of work. The fact that zerg mines faster with 15 drones than protoss does with 24 probes combined with their insanely potent macro mechanic combined with the fact that zerglings are faster than workers even without speed and not on creep so that it is literally impossible to scout until you have air units makes Zerg such a joke. seriously? wow that is fucking RETARDED if true Really...what the fuck. I dont see any logic in that I don't see that as bad, thing. Actually it's nice that there is more diversity between the races *but* it is of course harder to balance. What matters is not the perfect numerical balance but actual balance in number of possible strategies, relation of timings in army strenght/tech progres by diffrent races or maps and general diversity of game play styles avilble (viable for winning at pro level) for players. If blizzard can achive that having imbalanced worker mining times, supply counts, or any simmilar feature, i'm fine with that. To quote the apparently bipolar orb from a different thread:

is anyone surprised at just how very very close this game is to being as balanced as SC1??
i mean we play this thing 24/7 as a whole, and no one's figured out a race that just totally dominates, everyone bitches about how their thing is weak and X race's thing is strong
just like BW n___n
it makes me excited for this games release!!! BE OPTIMISTIC PPL

I think a better question would be "How far away is StarCraft II from being (reasonably) balanced?" "Several minor patches" "Several major patches" "An overhaul"
|
i just wish zerg had some non a move units and in a perfect world 2d graphics. i never understood the point of 3d games with 2d gameplay. I much prefer 3rd strikes graphics to sf4's for example.

Honestly I would be happy with it if it shipped tomorrow but there are still some issues that need working like high ground advantage. However overall I think it's both both better balanced and more fun than SC1 was when it was first released by a long shot.

I consider fixing highground a major overhaul. I voted for that anyways. SC2 needs many small patches and maybe a bigger one for something we possibly havent worked out yet. Like when people started to use NE buildings as offensive units in wc3. The game is too young to tell right now but it feels pretty balanced already.

I really would like a pretty big overhaul of zerg, I'm not satisfied with how they turned out. Then to echo everyone else- I want high ground advantage back.

Buffing highground advantage and making Zerg casters overall better and more interesting should be top priorities.

nydus also needs to go back to the hive tech

I'm not bipolar, I believed the thread until I did the tests myself.
The 2nd post in the thread posted that zerg mined faster and had stats for it.
How is that bipolar?
zomg i learned something new and changed my opinion based on new facts i must be a flipflopper
oh right sorry, bipolar, rather than flipflopper. I keep forgetting what you kids call it these days

Would like an overhaul. I mean, the game is good, but there's so much that could be made better. Fixing high ground, changing some sounds, balancing the MUs so that no race should be forced to turtle for the first half of the game without resorting to cheese, making zerg benefit more from diverse unit compositions and interesting abilities... There's a lot of things I'd like to see changed or improved. First thing I'd like to see though is an improvement of the b.net interface. No chat rooms, no watching replays with friends, not being able to check profiles properly, no way of easily seeing other parts of the ladder, as well as a ranking system where the divisions doesn't seem to be ranked in order, just the leagues. Most of it is work in progress I assume, but it feels like so many basic features from the original b.net is missing I can't help wondering why b.net 2.0 delayed the beta for so long.

Wow, this poll is pretty damn split.

Dustin Browder: "We have heard the outcry of the fans about High Ground advantage. As a result, units would not be able to attack units at higher elevation regardless of vision." LOL?
Anyway, voted for major patch. Sounds, HGA, etc..
