Tough vote imo! Ended up going with Kulas since I think it provides the most interesting games since it has a lot of different viable strategies.

Went with Metalopolis, not for the gaming possibilities, but the design (come on, imagine how big the skyskraper that the map is played on is, considering you can have a war on it, and mine mineral/gas :O)

I like most of them, some a bit less (like Blistering Sands). There is one map I really hate though: Twilight Fortress, but it's 2v2.

Kulas Ravine for sure, virtually any playstyle is viable on this map - You can go for a macro heavy game, or proxy barracks in the middle of the map, there's plenty of opportunity for harassment and the multitude of destructible rocks offer a lot of possible pathways, which means you can always change the dynamics of the game you're playing if you chose to do so.

voted LT. I dont really like most of the new maps, they are pretty much forcing people into certain playstyles too much (close 2 player maps for quick games on the one hand and maps with ridiculous walking distance to force a macro game on the other hand). Instead of those obvious "hey we want to do this type of map" maps there should have been more subtle maps which allow for more variety in play imo.

Yeah I went for Metalo, but Kulas is 100% awesome imo.
All the 4p maps feels pretty cool compared to Desert and Blistering ... They are just weird and boring. Don't hate me.

Went with Lost Temple. What I like about it is that it plays (should play) differently depending on spawning positions. Now if I could just play it .

Kulas Ravine is by far the best! Lost Temple is good to but I feel its so small..

In case anyone got a spare key please pm me.

And to the question, I have ever actual been lucky enough to try any of them but from what I have observed LT is kind of a schematic fir standard maps. But I find Kulas Ravine as the more entertaining watch as spectator at least, due to the easy expand, and the possiblity to try out heterodox builds.

I like Kulas but at the same time it sucks because theres no good open areas to get surrounds or outflank a turtling terran once he finally decides to move out everything is so narrow with a few side paths. I voted steppes because it's very versatile.

Kulas Ravine is awesome as well! Actually every 1v1 map is good so it's really a tough call;p

I like Desert Oasis slightly less, just because so many people opt for all-ins there and i remember only 1 fun game i played there

how in the hell does Desert Oasis have 19 votes?

I love how close steppes of war starting positions are. it makes timing pushes really sexy but the well defended natural means you can get to the juicy midgames too ^_^

I wish for terrans to develop some mega-nuke to destroy Desert Oasis completely.
Metalopolis and Scrap Station - don't like dark lighting palette (daylight Metalopolis would be good). Don't like KR palette too (KR from alpha battle report looked much better IMO).
So... Lost Temple.

How the hell could ANYONE vote for desert oasis?

As for blistering sands I'm guessing everyone that voted for that is a zerg player lol.

I voted for metalopolis. Quality map, well balanced, good placement, no backdoors.

Tough call, but I went with Steppes of war. It's an intense map without the gimmicky crap like destructible rock backdoors or a tight elevated base like Desert Oasis. You rush and defend the rush and harass without worrying about constant cheese and annoyance that's map based.

Lost temple is great too, the way that the dynamic changes completely depending on whether you are front to front, back to back, or cross map with your opponent. It plays like three different maps depending on how you get placed, plus you have cliffs overlooking the expos, raised areas in the middle, etc.

I don't understand how any one likes Desert Oasis or Blistering Sands. Horrible, horrible maps.
Don't let me say this, but you're no worse than me; it's crazy.

For me as a terran player its between Desert oasis and Lost temple. In desert oasis, I can open up with my reapers into banshee-viking build in TvT and TvP. Lost temple is just awesome because of the high ground which can do so much damage.
Hope is the first step on the road to dissapointment

Steppes and then LT. Mostly picked steppes because I'm a fan of 2 player maps rather than 4. Either way, I feel much more comfortable playing on those two maps than any others.

Steppes of War is awesome. The rocks and towers are useful without being obnoxious (control of the towers doesn't give you vision of the middle of the map). The overall layout is intuitive and solid.

Btw, I wonder whether SC2 in general would be better without towers, they look cool at first but then it seems like they often shut down all sorts of deceptive tactics that would be otherwise viable. They're analogous to glass walls in FPS games -- at first you add a few so that people can look through, see where the enemy is, and make predictions about where they'll go, but if there's too much glass/visbility then you start to cripple a player's ability to trick/outmaneuver the opponent.

same exact vote and reason, although the Ravine does seem pretty good so it was close between the Ravine and LT but LT is just soooo classic and has a different game with different starting positions so its REALLY cool.

Metalopolis is just an amazingly cool map. I really like that map more then all the others. Ignoring the balance, the proper chokes and such, LOOKIT ALL THE FUNNY ADS!

Only map where I'll load up vs the ai just to check out all the adverts and stuff such as the iPistol and NUKE NOODLES. Toss in the statues of Arcturis and I am sold. By far my most beloved map. I'd love to see a city type map in the day time however.

Either LT or Steppes of War. I'd pick Metalopolis but I really hate that it's at night. It makes everything hard to see. :\ I don't really like Kulas for the same reason.. only instead of everything being dark, everything is orange. I dunno. It's distracting and hurts my eyes.

I ended up voting LT, but mainly because balance-wise it's a lot better than in BW, and it's more symmetrical, and it's the map I play on the most. Aside from that Blistering Sands is pretty cool.

yea, when I made my poll about this in the first week of beta It was SoW and LT, and really disliked DO. Now DO is ok for me (actually kinda like it a lot now) and KR is probably my fave. (DO is my best map on my profile too lol)

I dislike metal the most because there are no good places to put overlords and the watchtowers are suicide for a roach/ling >.<

I think its really hard for a T win agaisnt Z in Srap Stations or Desert Oisis.

Scrap Station - Extremely wide ramp, long distance from main to natural.
Desert Oisis - 2 Patchs to your natural? WTF?

I dont like this one either. Tough most of the game I have to play on it is a win it is just pure macro and fast tech map with ridicilous distances.

Where is Shakuras Plateau? Easily the best and most underplayed map, in my opinion. And from this map pool, Lost Temple is definitely 2nd place, then Kulas Ravine 3rd.

I think Kulas is by far the most interesting map. So many different ways the game can play out based on spawn locations.

However, I think it is a bit terran sided as well.

Yeah, as far as the map goes, those cliffs right along your mineral line at the natural really seem to be quite a bit terran favouring. With just a few rines/vikings and a tank you are totally screwed as zerg. Since you don't get vision when you get attacked, you have to sit there like a bitch and take it while terran comfortably lift-expands to his high ground expo. If every terran would take advantage of this, I'd be pretty fucked.
Same applies for LT, but at least marines and vikings can't kill your mineral lines off, so terran gotta get a tank out, so its a little bit better for Z.

I don't know if it's just a coincidence or if it comes with the status of a legend, but I find that Lost Temple has produced the most exciting games so far. Honestly, I would not be suprised if out of all these maps, this one lasted the longest on the professional scene (perhaps even longer then the original =D).

I am suprised at the statements that it is easy to take an expansion on Kulas Ravine, though. It is so easy to abuse the fact that there are two ways into your natural. That said, I do tend to wall off one of them with pylons for that reason.

While I agree that Desert Oasis is the worst map out of the 1v1 mappool, I do not think everything about it is bad. Infact, since the ground distance is so significantly longer then the air distance, I find that it really encourages unorthodox play.

Like GTR, though, I am waiting for Twisted Peak to be included. While it received a lot of criticisms when it was originally unveiled, I think that map has a lot of potential. But we will have to see how it does in practice first.

It's funny that many in the thread are saying how good Kulas is yet it has really low votes?
It's the only decent macro map and definitely produces the best games.

I think a most hated map poll would spark funnier discussion.
VOTE: blistering sands
Because there's nothing more fun than defending a "choke" for your bases that leaves you on low ground with no funnel into your units and miles out of walking distance if you get dropped.

Kulas Revine specifically because of FFA. As terran you just pick up your base and start behind the rocks at your 2nd nat. Stops all rushing (where they instead focus on someone else) while you hard tech to BC's and ravens ^_^;

I like all the maps so far because I really feel that I have to change up my playstyle a bit depending on the map which adds another dimension aside from the race matchup. About the only map I really hate is the 2v2 only one (can't recall it this late at night and dont feel like looking it up) that encourages pure turtling...*yawn* boring as heck mass unit gameplay.

Scrap Station is by far the worst map. There is smoke fucking everywhere, and if the rocks are destroyed your bases are so close on foot that its not even funny... and also it tends to be only air heavy because you can come from any freakin direction into your opponents base. Imagine defending against air as terran with turrets, you would have to build like 8 just to cover your main.
In life you can obtain all sorts of material wealth, but the real treasure is the epic feelings you get while doing something you love.

I really want to give Desert Oasis a negative vote... Actually, a thousand negative votes... I don't think I've even played a match on it yet where someone didn't try to cheese me (and yes, I consider very fast Banshees in TvT cheese; luckily, they're a very easily counterable cheese xD).

However, I voted Metalopolis. The double, wide entrances to the natural almost makes me take my vote away, but there is sufficient high ground from your base and from the "third natural" that as Terran I can generally take advantage of that to make the lack of walling not matter. The placement of the high-yields I absolutely love and the overall structure of the map leaves a little to be desired for maneuvering in the middle, but the amount of high ground and the effect it has more than satiates me and the (imo) balanced support for air/drops brings the whole thing together.

Kulas Ravine is a really close second as I like the inclusion of the rock natural/second natural and the relative insecurity of the regular natural (at least with the state of the current meta-game where one-basing for a bit is more viable than in Brood War). The usage of rocks overall on that map is just great. My only real issue with the map is that mains feel a bit overly secure and the I feel like the positional imbalances with Terran walling on that map are second only to Blistering Sands.

Quick shout-out to Scrap Station as it makes for very interesting and different games courtesy of the close "crow flies" base distances, although I can't in good faith vote for it with the island base generally being so Terran-favored, but otherwise it's a really interesting experiment unlike Desert Oasis.

Steppes of War, that map has so much hidden depth. It's rush friendly, but in a longer game the whole map turns into 2 giant fortresses.

I love scrap station as Zerg. I find it really easy to place (or hide if need be) my overlords to scout specific spots. As well, it offers for some interesting rushes for Protoss as well, certain ways to set up a proxy gate rush on the ledges (by having the pylon on the ground near the middle expansion, hugging the wall of the ledge) and then building the gateway on the ledge.

Also a fun map to use nydus canal or muta harass : )

I voted Metalopolis. I like both the look and gameplay flow of the map. The design with that sky scrapery tileset just looks cool imo. Gameplay wise I like the variation on how games unfold base on spawn position. If you spawn right by eachother you have the whole short air distance but long ground distance type of game going on. But spawning away from eachother it is long for both, but there are lots of paths with bases along just about any path. So you can do a slow push while expanding towards your opponent, but still have to guard from them just walking around or flanking you. It just feels like the map has a good variety of gameplay, at least for me.

Voted kulas because of how unique it is, even though I lose most of the games I play on this map.
Also this seems like a decent place to ask, why isn't shakura plateau in the 1v1 pool? It seems like another solid 1v1 map and it could have some interesting games based on whether you spawn cross map or on the same side etc.

Desert Oasis is a nice map hated by many. I think it is great, because it ...
- is relatively small,
- does NOT favour super fast ground rushes, (which are boring to watch IMO)
- emphasizes flexible playing style (island expos, open natural expos, three central Xel'Naga towers).
You HAVE TO scout your enemy or get surprised and taken out by a switch to air ... which many "fast action aggressive players" like to ignore.

I've been wondering how this map would play as a 1v1 map. No changes, just 1v1, and of course players can't spawn next to each other. Turtling would be almost certain but there's still more expo's outside of the main base area. I think it would cater to some HEAVY macro oriented play. I personally haven't seen very much 200/200 3/3/3 armies colliding. Just makes me curious. And with the choke remaining so large, anyone who does go for the early expos could still be very vulnerable to harassment.

Lost temple was so imba in sc1 but in sc2, it's actually a pretty decent map, securing itself the top spot.

No, all you get is stupid 1 base air builds. There's no point trying to defend an expansion since it's stupidly far away.

Yeah like terran dropping tanks in the high ground behind enemy's natural... Or flying your CC to the third before destroying the rocks and spamming call-down mule in that base until you saturate it with scv's...

I personally think A LOT of these maps favor terran... Protoss are favored in the event of colossi-heavy army... these, unreachable for a zerg, high ground places which make drone rape soooo easy piss me off sometimes... -.-
