Samsung Electronics will be their sponsor, putting up a total of 150,000,000 won, with 40,000,000 won prize for the winner. 64 progamers will compete, 32 being taken from progamer rankings, while the other 32 will be selected from a preliminary. GomTV will broadcast from the round of 32 and on using their internet TV service. GomTV plans to broadcast outside Korea as well, planning to acquire a global broadcasting server in Europe by next month, and also intends to broadcast in English and Japanese by September. 10 of the 12 pro-teams have confirmed their support and participation, so it appears that GomTV will have no troubles in getting their league started. unsourced stuff and rambling: KeSPA hasn't officially sanctioned the league, to the best of my understanding. Yet 10 teams have given them the go ahead, so it will still be a significant league. KeSPA has failed to be a respectable organization so far, and some particularly negative people might even say its reputation is laughable. I doubt the lack of official sanctioning will effect the prestige of this tournament. It's up to GomTV to do their best and make it respectable.
Bacchus OSL Finals on Ongamenet with #1 cable ratings
Last Saturday's OSL Finals had an average rating of 1.367% (male/age 13-25) and a market share of 29.83% (Rank 1 for this time slot). The numbers peaked out during the first game (6:35pm) when ratings climbed up to 3.432% and market share reached an amazing 50.17%. That means, among all 13-25 year old males who watched (cable) TV at that time, more than half watched OSL. About 8000 fans came to see the event live on stage in Gwangju (about 3 hours from Seoul), filling the stadium up to the 3rd floor.

Flash, Stork, Jaedong – Newsbits
Flash, probably the hottest player on the scene right now, has gotten an incentive as well as a big salary raise by KTF for his recent OSL win. Flash led KTF to their first individual league title after a period of 2 years. Much to the dismay of Stork, who was on his way to win the Award for Best Winning Percentage of 2007 at the upcoming Korean e-Sports awards with 78-35 (69.02%). Due to his unfortunate 0-3 loss against Flash, Stork’s winning quota dropped to 78-38 (67.24%) putting him behind Jaedong, who will now get the award with a win ratio of 70-32 (68.62%). It also seems like Stork will lose the fan vote for Best Protoss of 2007 against Bisu, who is currently leading the poll by 300 votes. Jaedong fans on the other hand will be delighted, as Jaedong now has a good chance of getting 4 awards, including Best Match, Best Zerg, Best Winning Percentage (courtesy of Stork) and Best Player of the Year. In the past this has only been topped by Iloveoov and sAviOr, who have won 5 awards at the first and second Korean e-Sports awards respectively.

quick question how does a match that is played in 2008 have an effect on 2007 percentages?
|
good question, just a theory but maybe the games percentages are the games played between each award ceremony

Thanks snowbird, I love these updates. Finally got round to watching the OSL finals, and I must say I enjoyed them :D I do feel sorry for Stork though, since he seems to be on the same path as Yellow, with the difference being that Stork was actually the strongest player in the world for large periods of time, just not the right periods

Wow, Starcraft #1 in cable ratings. Who would've thought?
Man, I don't get all the hate Stork gets here at TL. I just can't help but feel sorry for the dude.
|
Poor Stork, please win something. And soon.
|
shit man, everything going downhill for stork atm
|
Stork... its just so hard for him to win anything. They need to give him a special award or something .
|
I wouldn't feel too bad for stork. He's getting a very nice salary to play bw for a living Keep in mind hes still one of the best players on the scene. Even if he doesnt win first place.
Nice news report snowbird. Thanks. I've always been curious as to which players have better ratings. I wonder, besides boxer, who the most popular players to watch are.

Stork have lost all of his hopes of domination on pro-scene. When his rivals were slumping Savior and slumping Bisu he had good chances, but now...now his rivals are rising Jaedong and rising Flash, and poor Stork doesn't have any chance at all.
|
So this was one of the most viewed starleagues? Too bad game quality was CRAP.
|
this is beyond sad for stork
|
Stork reaped what he sowed. He didn't play his best, he got crushed. It's a shame he probably won't manage a title at this rate, though. : (

Hahahahaha @ Stork.
He's another Yellow, another Midas, another GoodFriend. He never had the spark, the 'Sense of Star', and this is proving how mediocre he is. I don't dislike Stork by any means, I think he just got too much of an ego before he had earned the right to, and now, IMO, he never will. Karma is a beotch.
|
We already know that Starcraft is pretty damn popular in Korea, so that honestly doesn't tell me anything new. But what were the ratings for this year's OSL compared to say MSL or past years?
Thanks for the news update (poor neo yellow)!

Stork doesn't strike me as an egoist Teletubby

That pic with Flash + Stork + Jaedong is just fucked up If stork ever see that picture I think he probably will just kill himself
|
haha, wow that totally sucks for stork
|
Poor Stork. Lets just hope this doesnt shatter his confidence and skill.

He's a bit too smug, and not very respectful IMO. His FBH ceremony vs oov? His interview after the MSL finals when he lost to Bisu? Not to mention the whole WCG retardedness... his skill has my respects, his personality doesn't.
|
yea that ceremony on oov pissed me off, ive not liked him since.. and the msl finals interview, even the koreans were on him when he ws making excuses for the last game. but whats this wcg retardedness?

About 10-20 unnecessary tie-breakers just because he was trying to rig the brackets.

Edit: I'm not saying Stork shouldn't have just taken 1st - and he did, in the end, even though, as I recall, he could have risked it by throwing his last game against Ra. And I agree that Stork has had his chances to win and has shown time and again that he just isn't as flexible as other players are. But it's not really fair to only complain about Stork throwing games.

Poor stork I cant stop saying it.. I really feel bad for the guy..
|
man i feel sorry for stork, can't that guy ever get a break?
|
poor stork T_T
he's been trying for so long

Couldn't Stork still win best winning percentage if he kicks Hwasin's ass in the skins match tonight? Or do those games not count?

those games don't count. only official kespa sanctioned games count (PL, OSL, MSL)

i love these news flashes. thanks guys

How many awards can a player win? If a lpayer makes a "grand slam" how many awards does he get? What awards it there (except ofcourse those mentioned) What did oov/savior win thet Jaedong didn't/(won't)
Anyway sucks do be a bird -_-
|
Stork needed to beat Flash to retain that winning % lead, so I guess it wasn't his to lose.
Wow, I just feel like the level of Stork's play goes down tremendously in finals. I wonder how many it'll take for him to win anything other than WCG, if he does even manage to pull it off...

Well, it was about the way he did it. Yes, game throwing is nothing new (and it's shitty no matter who does it), but he prolonged the whole thing for soooo long, and his post-match interview just showed his lack of tact/common sense.

Maybe Stork lacks the mental strength and coolness when the pressure rises and this separates him of a possible champion. I saw one of the finals vs Jaedong on Bluestorm and he played very passive building many canons frightened by some little zergling harass even while Jaedong was already in advantage with his expos. He seems also often trying the same tactics which he feel save with..
This the opposite of i saw some of Boxers games. Where he already was in the Airforce and obviously lacked practice, macro & micro skills compared to the new pros but balanced this disadvantage by still playing like a tough guy with some sort of killer instinct.
