From a business perspective though, Blizzard would want to lock the best players in their regions. Blizzard will leverage their status for more views and if they fall out, they fall out (oops). In the long run, players' importance become diminished (unlike the situation now, where players are valuable for their fans) by divorcing the fans from the players and making them fans of WCS instead. I'd be spending far less on live events, venue rental, prize money and get a whole load more competitors. Blizzard will have a monopoly on the game they created. There are a few ways for players to combat this: a) through their independently established federations; b) through team sponsors who contribute a shed load to eSports; c) strike. The consensus is that if the teams split, they will multiply, but that's not necessarily true. This is like doing a risky double expand with no defense.

Q: What do you think of the WCS format in general? A: It's great to the players on top, but it's very poor for players in the mid level of their teams or below. They can't go to other tournaments, and all they have is the GSL. Kinda getting tired of people who keep saying this... you can play in 1 WCS region and as many other non-WCS tournaments as you like. That includes regular, non-WCS portion of MLG and IEM, as well as Dreamhack, NASL (if they still plan on putting out SC2 tournaments), and any other tournament that might come up, period.

Their teams wont send them..... they only send the top guys to big events in general unless it was already paid for intended for an A teamer and they can't go cause of GSL or MLG etc and they end up sending a Bteamer. The korean guys are basically screwed if they aren't A teamers cause their teams might not allow them to go to MLG WCS instead of goin thru code A etc

I know they are pro players and all, but the ability for 1 race to be so utterly behind in number (3 or 4 to 1) and still managed to fight back on through racial mechanics and basic units just feels... wrong somehow. even though I am a terran myself, but after seeing those games, I really think it is a bit unfair to have what we have.

It sounds great... IF there are going to be other tournaments around. What makes you think MLG will be interested in sinking more investment with less returns in other live events? Do you really think Carmac is going to continue the IEM tours after focusing on the league? The only exceptions are Dreamhack and NASL, who now fulfill a specific niche. The problem is now sponsors - who/what will they sponsor, especially now that WCS will have more reach? DH and NASL can't compete. Sponsors look at reach as one of their KPIs, so obviously the most ROI for sponsors will be the tournament with the most reach. Also what makes you think other brands will want to share publicity? Hence, IEM (Intel Extreme Masters) and ASUS ROG. These are not consistent tournaments, they are one offs. If the ROI isn't there, they will drop the event. In other words, we will see a decline of big, independent, event-based tournaments like DH and MLG. Less events = less participants = less player rotation = less viewers = less interest generated. Of course this would be from a Korean gaming stand point. It could grow communities to develop their own players and teams, but only time will tell. But if the US is anything to go by...

Yeah ^^ I've read about it, I was just joking after those egtl victories and all the #makeamiracle Coach Park facts since TaeJa won even with his wrists problems. Ah, and In case you didn't know, TaeJa doesn't live at his parents. He lives inside Coach Park's plan, like everyone else ![]()
