The prelims for the Challenge League are done and over with. Prelims had two stages, each stage consisting of straight 1v1, best of 3, with the winner moving on. The 24 finalists for the upcoming Challenge League have been determined. Here's a list of things worth mentioning (Thx to the good folks at pgr21 for the raw data):
- Some notables who made it: Sonic)Black (Z), Silent_Control (T), V_Gundam (T), Zeus (P), Kingdom (P), [Nag]Doggi (T), Sir@Soni~ (Z), TheMarine (T), Nal_Ra (P), ChRh (T), forU (P) (aka [Dak]ddong), Crystal[Inca] (Z), [Soul]Junior (Z), IntoTheRain (P), TheWind (Z), Jinsu (Z), IntoTheRainbow (P).
- Some notables who DIDN'T: GoRush (knocked out by [Soul]Junior, [Kor]Rain (by [Nag]Doggi), Starcraft_Side (by Kingdom), ProNT_Sonjjang (by an unknown Z named "Lim Gyoon-tae"...), Grrr (by Silent_Control in straight sets 2-0. I think Giyom's really lost it...T_T)
- Seo Ji-su (T), the only female gamer in the tourney breezed through her 1st round by blitzing her opponent 2-0. She looked so impressive that it had many observers thinking maybe we would finally get to see a female gamer in the Challenge League. Alas, it was not to be. She lost to a fairly unknown P user ("Moon Jun-hee") in the 2nd and final round. Needless to say, Moon is now the most hated SC gamer in Korea.
- In the 1st match of the 2nd and final round, Nal_Ra went TERRAN v his opponent and won! Is this guy gutsy or what?! omg @_@
- SC legend Shin Ju-young (formerly, [SG]Honest), who's been rumored to be trying a comeback since his discharge from military service, was disqualified for not attending. Too bad. Was hoping to see him play again. In his prime, Shin and his clanmate Ssamzzang were the two most feared players in Korea.
- Once again, a large number of P users, including a few lesser known ones have qualified for the Challenge League. Not that sheer numbers will matter once Duel Tournament stage rolls around: watch them fall like flies when the time comes.
That's it for now. Will update this news if and when more info becomes available.

btw, Lim Gyoon-tae sounds pretty much like GyunTae. He is probably [GsP]GyunTae, yes?
Protoss seems to be more "equal" with other races as the time goes by. Maybe people will soon stop whining about protoss being weaker
Also NICE and COOL to see two of my favs getting into league ^^; I truly hope Sonic)Black and [Soul]Junior will advance to the greater league. Pity that I can't see Enough in the lists [he is still playing right? last time saw him kicking ass in wcg-kor]. Also pity that the exp toss Side lost T_T.
I wish my favs luck although they won't probably even need it

Right Muhweli, MAYBE that time will come... not any time soon tho, with guys like Rea being constantly unhappy no matter what tourneys toss players ever win.

sorry, I forgot to replace a few of the korean characters. the word after the first number means wins and the word after second number means losses. so overall, terran has 36 wins and 44 losses. what strikes me is not only how toss dominated but how it dominated on bifrost. does any1 know if they made changes to it, because I just cannot see how toss can go 17-8 on bifrost against zerg and terran. thats also a sufficient sample size, so I don't think its a fluke.

Where are those numbers from? It's interesting to see that protoss has 60% win.
|
some other notable results:
- silent_control defeats [dak]joyo 2-1 with joyo picking protoss rather than terran for all 3 games. I know joyo is also very good using terran, but I guess silent_control is much stronger tvt than tvp.
- attack defeats enough 2-1 with the hydra master choosing to go protoss on forbidden zone.
- tis)issac lost to kingdom 2-1 in the first round. isaac hasn't done shit since his fluke semifinal appearance in coca-cola if my memory serves me correct.
- rain defeats eugene 2-1 in the first round with eugene going terran on bifrost, which also happened to be his only win.
- autumn losing to sir@soni in the second round 2-1 and autumn follows eugene's lead and picks terran on bifrost but loses with terran.
- [gsp]jju loses in straight sets to nal_ra in the second round. nal_ra also picked terran on bifrost. I'm beginning to sense a pattern.
- eros~rage loses 2-0 to gorush
- city loses to eji 2-1. city loses on bifrost and wins on forbidden zone.
- nissi~shaki beats sindoki in the first round, only to get swept by intotherainbow in the next round.
- leader[30d.o.m] loses to eji in the first round.

I believe those numbers are from the qualifers for the 3rd challenge league.
xellos doesn't have to qualify for the challenge league because he's already in the main tourney. If he doesn't automatically get a seed by placing in the top 3, he still automatically gains entry into the duel tournament.
and yes, im gyoon tae is indeed [gsp]gyuntae. might be unknown in the pro circle, but i'm sure he's famous among replay collectors. I know i have at about 10+ replays of him.
by the way, toss actually has a 62.5% winnging percentage overall.

Thx for all the added info people.
Yes, Wax, go ahead. Thx. I'm preoccupied at the moment anyway.
I'm seeing a lot of comments about how well protoss did in the Challenge League prelims. If people mean to imply that such favorable results will mean a strong showing for the race in the next Starleague and, maybe, the death of the toss imbalance question, think again. Remember the last Challenge League? HALF of the 24 finalists were toss users, many said due to the protoss-friendly changes to the maps. Protoss now rules, right?! Well, NO: whatever the reasons for the protoss surge, it didn't last. None of the Challenge League toss users made it through the Duel Tournament (tougher competition against the very best Zs and Ts). The next Starleague will feature only Garimto and Reach - neither of them Challenge League alumni (Garimto went straight to the Duel Tournament by virtue of his participation in the SKY 2002 Starleague just finished, while Reach gets an automatic seed because he won the event).
Who knows? Maybe this time it'll be different. Maybe toss will actually do well.
But, I doubt it. :r

whats so bad about winning the star league? ^^

Hehe, poor Moon. I'm sure he did the worst he could
But anyway, suprising to see Side go. Suprising, and sad.
