Now this I can agree with. I never even liked the guy- I'm just playing devil's advocate because since his fall from grace, a lot of accusations have been thrown at him, and some (but not all) of those I consider unfair. A thief isn't automatically also a rapist, murderer and a child molester, so to say.
"just playing devil's advocate" = trolling
please stop.
My intention was to defend a man everyone is ganging up on, not trolling. But since you view it as such, I'll stop.
to choose an obviously erratic fan and try to make your point with them when you're not actually emotionally invested in the topic is definitely trolling
I respectfully disagree. I am emotionally invested in defending people from perceived injustice, whoever they may be.

Shit like this just takes away from the achievements that progaming has accomplished over the past few years. Boxer must be absolutely fuckin fuming, he loves ESPORTS to death. These stupid cheaters are stealing the limelight from what otherwise would be history in the making; Flash possibly sweeping both starleagues, a JD vs Flash possible rematch, Effort's possible crazy-fast revival, etc...
Savior, I loved you once, but now I absolutely loathe you. And just because you were undeniably Bonjwa doesn't save you from anything; in fact, that makes it worse for you and for ESPORTS. You were a figure everyone looked up to and respected. So disappointed.
A) Players are still shining now, even if people like you can't see it because of controversies that affect a small minority of them.
B) Even if/when names are named, you can't be guaranteed that they were the only ones involved (and likely they weren't), only that they were the only ones caught (with enough evidence to accuse/convict), so again, you not being able to enjoy e-sports or what not won't change if this is indeed your reasoning.
C) Boxer will be just fine, as will e-sports.
A) Players indeed are still shining now... like Savior? Media attention is completely on this scandal. Are you seriously saying this will not take away from esports credibility and people's interest??? Players are undoubtedly doing well, but everyone's busy trying to find out who did what, who threw matches, etc. I guess you didn't know that that's what happens during a scandal. Everyone suffers.
B) That's why I said that I wished everyone would come out, not that they will. Your reasoning is laughable and ridiculous, I'm saying that ideally if everyone who cheated came clean, people could enjoy a stronger peace of mind and trust in e-sports again. Apparently you didn't understand this.
C) Why don't you go ask him yourself? And yes, e-sports will live, just as how if I slapped you really hard in the face, you won't die... or would you?
By stating that people are shining right now, I was talking about players performing well and getting recognized for it. While this issue is getting media attention, it isn't stopping the rest of the players from doing what they do best and being recognized for it (as you stated in your original post). There is still plenty of talk and hype about the usual happenings of e-sport.
In the end, this will blow over, just like the MSL debacle, pp, free agent scandal, etc. In a month's time I expect things will resume back to normal (of course without certain people). As for people losing interest in e-sports as a result of this, well so be it, but the truth of the matter is that this is a reality for every sport (and will be the case if sc2 becomes an esport as well). If there is money to be made by corruption (and there often is), someone will capitalize on it, its just life.
As for my reasoning being laughable and ridiculous, I believe the same can be said for "Boxer must be absolutely fuckin fuming", which in my opinion is quite over the top. Either way, its clear we disagree on the long term consequences of this.
People just love drama, and the hype that goes along with it.
"I will dominate in 2009 [unless someone gives me millions to take a loss]." fixed.
I always wondered why Savior was rumored to be the #1 on ICCUP, and yet lost so much live.
In all likely-hood, he could've been a dominating figure in '09, if he actually played.
And although this is a scandal, it makes me happy. Because it's one step closer to Starcraft being considering a "real" sport; because when money like this is being used to corrupt the game, the shit's probably worth watching!

what about that winners league where jaedong took the first three games and the lost to skyhigh, and then skyhigh all killed the rest of the oz team? did it seem odd that the oz coach put out players no one had ever heard of to face skyhigh? was he paid to throw the series?
what about that time bisu didnt block his ramp in a gomtv tournament and jaedong destroyed him?
i guess my point is, can we believe that any of these results are genuine? well i dont think bisu threw that match but you get the picture.
More likely to be the opposite intention for the power failure. For a while it looked like JD was losing, if you wanted a regame to give JD another chance you'd pull the power then. Waiting until just after a big battle where JD finally got his defiler ultra combo going and secured his double gas and then pulling the power is pointless. JD had the game won so he doesn't gain anything from a freewin while precedent suggests that a regame is more likely. That power cut hurt JD, both in reputation and in the possibility of a regame on an unfair map with his build revealed. Nobody benefited from that power cut.

You are indeed very respectful Z but...didn't you say that you were playing devils advocate? That usually implies that you're defending someone simply because everyone else is against him.
By that term, do you mean instead that you feel someone is being vilified without just cause and you are moved to defend them because of their many, many detractors?
Basically, I guess I'm asking if you believe Savior is being done an injustice?

And, as many elders here stated, $2k is a bullshit for such a smart man as Savior to risk for.
$2k just shows how desperate these guys are. Players like Bisu and Nal_Ra, very famous and successful players still live with their mothers. I'm not sure about Savior, but he's probably finally f***ed just like the rest of these guys.
no they don't. they live in progaming houses with their fellow team members. iirc, in korean culture, there's nothing wrong with living with your parents until you get married. even in america, more people live with their parents after graduating to save money. there's really no shame in it.
and nal_ra retired, he's a commentator now.
oh, it happens, but i wouldn't say there isn't any shame in it.
^^^ I'm pretty sure less so in the US post-recession than there used to be (social concepts are often pretty hard-keyed into economics) but certainly in many countries outside the US there is no shame in living with your parents. In fact, a lot of places it would be considered improper and rude to live in the same city as your parents and not with them, unless you're married.
I mean, obviously, people find ways around it...houses tend to be built in "compartmentalized" schema so as to afford privacy even within the same house.

Hilarous how the judge or whatever he was was talking about unit control!
Hi guys, you know match fixing in pro BW has been going on for years. No suprise to me. So why now with the scandals? Blizzard are wanting to promote SC2. BW is a great userbase for SC2 sales, but it's also a stumbling block for conservatives that want to stay BW ( me included! ) . This is the 1st in a series of scandals that'll be hitting pro-BW over the next year or so. The idea of course is to diminish the credibilty of BW wrt to korean media and thus all BW media. Character assasination. After reducing the pro-BW korean to a mess with scandals and other tricks, blizzard will step in with refurb grants on the condition that they all shift to SC2. Bastards. Nothing we can do. Even a 100% unified TL member embargo on SC2 would not discourage blizzard from this course of action. The BW community is going to be forcably converted to SC2.
Scene: Mike Morhaime's office, a darkened room covered in Blizzard memorabilia. Mike Morhaime sits behind his desk, stroking a cat.
Dustin Browder enters the room, and silently kneels before him.
Morhaime: There is a great disturbance in the fanbase.
Dustin: I have felt it, my master.
Morhaime: Many of the e-sports fans are not switching over to SC2. They believe the Korean BroodWar leagues are more competitive and...fun to watch. (Morhaime sneers)
Dustin: But Kespa is just a small organization. Boxer can no longer help them...
Morhaime: They could severely lessen our sales. Already, they have succeeded in getting SC2 rated Adults Only in Korea. If they continue to oppose us, the damage would be great.
Dustin: But...if Kespa could be turned, they would be a powerful ally...
Morhaime: Yes...yes...but can it be done? We have negotiated with them for three years, and still they refuse to bow to our whims.
Dustin: If they cannot be turned...they will be destroyed.
Morhaime: Yes...but how? Our greatest legal and parapsychological pressure has been ineffective against them.
Dustin: Through Blizzard Korea and my contacts in the Illuminati, I have acquired certain information concerning the Korean progamers and proteams. Information about match-fixing scandals, involving the top echelon of players in Korea...including sAviOr himself.
Morhaime: Excellent! This information that could severely damage Kespa. I will travel to Korea immediately, and begin spreading this information among the Korean e-sports media. Kespa will be utterly destroyed!
Dustin: But what if they survive?
Morhaime: Do not worry, my servant. Through my contacts in the International Jesuit Conspiracy, I have acquired even more damaging information than this. If they will not bow to us, then they will find themselves shaken by scandal after scandal, until nothing at all remains of them but dust and ashes. And then, once Kespa is gone, we will step in, and take over all of e-sports. Starcraft 2's ascendancy will be assured!
Dustin: But what if some of the fans discover what we're doing? What if they connect us to the scandal?
Morhaime: That is unlikely. But even if they do, even if all of the foreign e-sports fans rebel against us...Kespa will fall, and there is nothing they can do to stop us. Mwa ha ha ha ha! (Morhaime subsides into maniacal laughter)
Dustin: So be it, my master.
Dustin rises to his feet, and exits the office.
Mike Morhaime stands up slowly, and whispers an incantation over his cat. The cat transforms into a massive wing-ed HELLBEAST, which Morhaime leaps upon and rides off in the direction of Korea, cackling madly.
<3 the drama as long as no high profile matches are spoiled. I'd be very pissed if I were a coach/manager/teammate and a PL game were thrown - completely unacceptable.
all you poeple sticking up for savior this and that .. are forgetting not only did he let his fans down ,,, violated the integrity of the sport ,,, but he also let his teammates down .... this is my problem with him .. the main problem i have is screwing over your friends and teammates is lower than low .. the type of person that would sleep with his best friends wife,,, then after screwing over his honest friends on his team , he screws over his dishonest cheating friends as well as the fag keeps the freaking pay out money .. lol who could not see that one coming if you were a part of it , "well he is a lying cheater , oh well guess we should have see that one coming since we are also lying cheaters "
and think about the ones who were not cheating , the ones who were not even making the money he was ... so the guy wastes all his money on a bunch of crap .. cannot support his wasteful lifestyle , and now becuase he won a bunch of games in the past ,screwing over your teammates is not considered wrong ????how is this getting left out of your equation zato-1? the type of person that would sell out his own family for a buck .... that what those teams become i imagine ...like family .. they freaking live and work together all day every day , for years on end the guy is a total loser and has no ethics whatsoever .........you have b team and a team gamers working 12 hours a day for peanuts just for a shot at what he got,,,,,,,,you have other gamers almost at that level that were probably inspired by him ,,,, not to mention they probably get bonuses for the winners league race ... ... those games he threw probably could have an effect on those bonuses... if i was a struggling A team gamer barely making money , and the absolute richest player in e-sports is match fixing on my team costing me a chance at a badly needed extra money .. ...........well lets just say ... get a rope... time to get the mob together
