TL Arena III

We're back on track!Once more we offer our sincerest apologies for having to cancel the show on the 5th of December. However, we have of course been working on a re-schedule and the time at which TL Arena 3 will take place is December 19th, 22:00 CET, 16:00 EST, 13:00 PSTI'm pming all the contestants and updates on whether they can still play will follow shortly. Also, with the ICCUP reset coming soon we might hold this event on US West. The polls are still open and keep an eye on that topic for more news.
With TSL Ladder well underway, you have surely been spending all of your precious free time playing on your TSL account, following the players on the ladder, watching the Livestreams of the big names or generally hyping this event up. In these busy times where we hasten from game to game, stream to stream and topic to topic - How about some laid back Saturday Night entertainment? Time for another Arena.
TL-Arena 3 will take place on December 19th, 22:00 CET (16:00 EST, 13:00 PST).
We changed the format around a bit. Since our Hero this time is a Terran player, we've shortened it down a bit: Seven wins are needed for a victory. However, to recompense, our hero will start out with a handicap.
So, onto our hero:
For this event, we have again a fine selection of maps and handicaps. They are:

- Katrina
- Old Medusa
- Neo Requiem
- Fighting Spirit
- Tornado
- TL Submission
+ Show Spoiler [HANDICAPS] +Units- Gas Cap - Hero can have a maximum of 2 Refineries
- M-Shop Cap - Hero can have only 1 Machine Shop
- Prod fac. Cap - Hero can have only 4 of any production facility (Rax, Fact, Port)
- No Dropships - Hero isn't allowed to make Dropships
Upgrades- 1 Ebay / Armory - Hero can have 1 Engineering Bay and 1 Armory
- No Vult speed - Hero cannot research Vulture speed
- No Range - Hero cannot research Range Upgrades (Marine, Goliath, Ghost)
- No Vessel Spells - Hero cannot research any Vessel spells
Other- Kill ini worker - Hero has to kill one of his initial 4 workers at the start of the game
- No Scan (Scan cap) - Hero cannot build Comsat Stations
- Give vision - Hero has to share vision with his opponent
- CPU Ally - Fodder is allied to a CPU Player
- No Minimap - Hero cannot use minimap

+ Show Spoiler [COMPLETE RULES] +TL Arena took the concept of a minigame you can find in Final Fantasy 7 and applied it to StarCraft. It provides a challenge for a "Hero": a high level player. His goal is to defeat a number of low-level players in a series of games on pre-determined maps. Defeating all of them will end the game and result in a victory for the Hero. However, to make things difficult the Hero is burdened with Handicaps. After every victory a random handicap is added to his tally. These handicaps stack, making him play with more and more handicaps the closer he comes to victory. The low-level players come from pre-determined ranks and are lovingly termed "Fodder". For each match the Hero gets to pick who he plays and on what map he plays. The handicaps he receives cn influence this choice, allowing him to tactically pick, for example, when to play against what race. Hanicap suggestions:
* No scouting with scvs
* Must truthfully answer the first 3 questions an opponent asks (relating to the game)
* Command Center cap of 2
* Must donate enemy a CC at 15 minute mark (float to their main; Z can infest).
* No building supply depots in main base (must be at the nat and other strange places)
* Max 2 scvs per refinery

Handicap Suggestion:
-The hero need to train a Firebat for every tank he train.
-The hero is capped at 100 Supply.
-The hero must sack 1 Scv for every Goliath or Medic he train.

i thought of a pretty intense yet complicated handicap:
time bomb
whenever the hero puts up an expansion he has to start attacking his own command center with a single scv. the command center cannot be repaired and the scv is only allowed to stop attacking if it is killed by an enemy unit. if the CC is damaged in any way by the enemy, the hero can repair it back to full health. if you are curious, the command center lasts approximately 4 minutes if left alone with the attacking scv (i went and tested it myself).
so for example, if terran goes 1 barracks FE he will probably have to build another command center four minutes later to replace the one he has. however, if the zerg is muta harassing and ends up killing the single scv then that CC is now considered safe and can be repaired, etc. if a glaive wurm is spotted boucing into the CC then the CC can be repaired back to full health but the scv must continue attacking it as long as it is alive and the 4 minute counter is essentially restarted.
you can mess with that idea by picking and choosing which aspects you want to keep. i just think it'd be really interesting to see nyoken have to build an extra CC every 4 minutes or have his mining stalled.

oh yeah, i never steal a terrans gas, i dont like being manner pyloned by protoss'. So i decided never to do manner pylons or steal T's gas, unless im face to face with the person therefore giving them the opportunity to hit me in the face. Cus thats how i feel :D lol. GL to all.
and if timb bomb is a real handicap, no worries nyoken ill do my best to kill that scv. Its more entertaining that way.

No Siege - Hero cannot upgrade Siege Mode until he has a completed third command center, at his third expansion location. (landed). Either that or apply to his 4th expansion. (in this case fourth expansion location, landed.)
No Cloak - Ghosts or Wraiths cannot be cloaked.
Weapons/Armor - Cannot be upgraded until the hero destroys at least 1 nexus, either the Natural, Third, fourth, etc...
extra:
Scared Shitless Fodder - Hero can use full game capabilities if he successfully nukes the Fodder three times. LOL. C'mon anyone who gets off three nukes deserves handicaps removed!

Alternatively, every time the opponent decides he wants to type "from?" (including right before huge battles), the hero must type "ThE UnItEd StAtEs Of AmErIcA" in response.

HC: SK Terran vs Protoss, or tanks from 1 machineshop at most (i´ve seen nyoken pull this off once in his stream)
Only Barracks and starports units vs Terran (Mass lockdown and battlecruisers ftw!)
Something crazy vs zerg like no turrets or no vessels.

* No marine left behind - Must move out with at least one marine for each tank in a push, and if marines are killed, cannot move forward with tanks before more come to complete that number.
* Tandem Scouting - must scout with 2 units (vessels, wraiths, SCVs), if one is killed, the other must retreat directly (right clicked) to the main base.
* Communist Party - Every upgrade must be done for air, mech and bio units - want to upgrade armor... goes for all three. At the same time.

- City in the Sky - For all buildings that can lift off, the hero must lift off the second building of that type that he makes and keep it that way for the remainder of the game.
- Sudden death - Hero loses the game if any of his command centers are destroyed. (Maybe an exception should be made for infested command centers?)
- Brood What? - Hero cannot make brood war units.

Reduced amount of minerals in main and expansions (like 50%).
Other player gets 1 minute head start in the beginning before user can do anything.
No Sim City. Players buildings may not be placed adjacent to each other.
User must ally the opponent and target every unit manually.
No unsieging of tanks. Once it's sieged, it cannot unsiege.

As for maps - from my point of wiev of a newbie who is rather watching koreans than massgaming I would really appreciate some maps which are played the most at my level, that's by far Python, could be as well Destination and Lost temple (don't kill me please)
edit: also as I missed previous two TL arenas I would like to ask how are fodders selected?

question: What race is the CPU ally? The most effective ally would be Protoss. If you get protoss I would suggest you rush with something else at the same time as the computer does with the zealots.
Unless you get unlucky and it's the 1/12th of the time that the protoss computer forge FEs LOL

Can we make a wiki page for the handicaps? That way it's easy to keep track of and no double ups. Then it'd also be easier to pool for them.
Idk, split them up into sections as well like 'unit type restrictions', 'map restrictions' and 'gameplay restrictions' or something like that. Then we can at least have some order to the chaos of thousends upon thousends of suggestions, and doubleups/missing handicaps from past TL Arena games.

GL beating mass muta with no medics, no valks, and no gol range. If he gets the no marine range cap too...
None of these handicaps are deadly alone - almost all of them have a simple way around them or a strategy that goes around them, it's just interesting to see how he adapts to multiple at once.

Handicap:
Cheesed: Hero's first barracks and first factory must be placed closer to opponents main than his own.
Somewhere to sleep: Hero must bring 2 floating barracks with him on every attack, and he cannot move faster than them.
CC Bug fail lolz: Hero must float his starting command center 1 pixel further away from the minerals.
Terran can't win at 6: (4 player map only) Hero must start off by floating his CC to another main / his expo / an island expansion.
Dunno if any of these would actually work -_- just brainstorming.
So far i really like the one where the supply is built away from the main base and "Brood what?"

We're back on track!Once more we offer our sincerest apologies for having to cancel the show on the 5th of December. However, we have of course been working on a re-schedule and the time at which TL Arena 3 will take place is December 19th, 22:00 CET, 16:00 EST, 13:00 PSTI'm pming all the contestants and updates on whether they can still play will follow shortly. ok let's make this clear:
This even will take place on SATURDAY for MOST OF YOU.
However, in Korea it will already be SUNDAY.
As TeamLiquid goes by this time it will appear as being on Sunday on the Calender but for most of us it will still be Saturday (as it says in the OPs)
