Introduction:
Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia can eliminate all the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia.
The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. I will not compensate for ignorance.
Rules:
Cheating: Cheating includes (but is not limited to): 1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information. 2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town. 3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role. 4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles. 5. Posting screenshots of your inbox. 6. Posting or sharing any PM you receive from a host. 7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip. 8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts. 9. Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits. 10. Sharing accounts with other players unless cleared by the host in advance. Otherwise, only you may post on your account. 11. Breadcrumbing the specific phrasing of your role OR alignment PM. Do not compare the phrasing in your PMs to prove your alignment or role. You can claim the abilities you have, but you can't use the specific phrasing of your PM. 12. Posting a false role PM phrased as if you received it from the host. You can still fake roleclaim, but you cannot make it look like you are posting a PM you received from the host. 13. Encryption of any type. Cheating is not tolerated here. The punishment will be severe.

Spam: Try not to spam. If it happens, it happens. Sometimes you gotta triple post, etc. Don't worry about it too much. If I think you're spamming I'll tell you to stop, and then you'll stop. Not stopping is strictly prohibited.
Editing: Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. After that, you will be modkilled. This is the one part of the site where it is okay to be double posting, even triple-posting. While I ask for everybody to post as concisely as possible, post again if you have to edit anything.
Inappropriate posts: If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with it elsewhere, don't post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. The hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If you do not like how someone is talking to you, please PM a host, Foolishness before involving the TL staff. If you are unsatisfied with how the situation is resolved, then you can appeal to the TL staff normally. Stuff like "this argument is dumb because XYZ" is fine. Stuff like "you are doing ABC, which is dumb" or "you're dumb if you do ABC" is mostly fine. Stuff like "you're dumb. lolooloooo" is not fine. I expect personal attacks to be avoided at all costs. If you cross the line I will let you know and you will almost always be warned before being modkilled but lets try to keep it civil.
Reporting posts: The report button is a nice feature for regular TL, but not for this forum. We prefer to deal with things in house if possible to avoid confusion among the TL staff. If you have a problem with how someone is posting, talk to the host, co-host, Flamewheel, or Mig before using your report button. Please do not use your report button for anything other than inappropriate posts which you feel are not being dealt with adequately.
Ban discussions: Please wait until this game is over to talk about modkills and bans resulting from this game.
Play to win. This means you play your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. This does not mean, for example, that you should try to win by being a jerk to the other players so they all want to quit playing. If you're not playing to win you risk a modkill. This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason without a ban. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. PM your host if you need to leave the game; I will attempt to accommodate.

Voting rules:

Signups:
Eligibility Anyone may sign up for this game, even if they are a noob. However, I strongly recommend you play a normal game first before playing this game, which is a heavily themed game.
Invites There are no invites this game. Signups are open to all!
Game-specific rules:
Modkills: This game follows theTL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, your punishment will go beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to it for questions about your punishment. If you want to use this game to sit out your ban, please PM Blazinghand and post in the Ban List thread, and also type /sitout in the thread here.
Replacements I love replacements, but I hope never to use them. There are replacement slots, so sign up if you're interested. Replacements will be made up until N1. You're encouraged to find your own replacement if you need to replace out. After N2 begins there will be no more replacing.
Clues: There are no clues. All flavor is just that-- flavor.
PMs PMs are not allowed in this game unless your role explicitly allows it.
Time Cycle: This game will follow a 23 hour+1 night/47+1 hour day cycle. This means all night actions must be in 1 hour before the official deadline at which point a 1-hour resolution period will begin. In case I or another co-host is not able to post around deadline, any votes after the 47 hour mark will not count and the game will be put on halt until the night post is up. Currently the action resolution 23:00 GMT (+00:00), and voting deadline is at 22:00 GMT (+00:00) but that is subject to change. Actions/votes will be accepted up to and including the posted times, but not after.

This is a heavily themed game and as such it is a closed setup.
Health
This game features a health system instead of a standard KP system. Upon reaching 0 HP, a player will die. You will know your starting HP, and will be notified at end of phase what your total HP is.
Notifications
HP is the ONLY notification you will be receiving unless otherwise specified; players are not informed if their abilities landed, if they are roleblocked, healed/shielded/hit with KP/etc. You will be informed if an ability is refunded to you for whatever reason.
There are multiple ability ‘types’ in this game and they will be listed here for reference in order of resolution (if necessary):

Spirit Lance "We come for you!" Phantom Lancer sends his lance to a target of his choice for 10 damage, and will keep his target from moving anywhere on the roster. One phase cooldown. Starting Night 1 the following ability becomes available: Doppelganger "Chase this!" Phantom Lancer clones himself for one phase. When the PM is sent to the host, this ability activates instantly and you will appear in multiple places on the roster. If there is truesight on you or if you are tracked, the real you will be highlighted. The person who targeted you will also know which copy is the real you. Cooldown - One phase. I.e. if you use this ability you can't use it the next phase. It becomes available again the phase after the next. Please submit to the host account as: ##Doppelganger
Starting Day 2 the following ability becomes available: Phantom Rush A legion sprouts from one. Phantom Lancer can target anyone on the roster and rush in with his basic attack on his target. If roleblocked, he cannot attack, even if the target is directly next to him on the roster. Cooldown of one phase. Please submit to the host account as: ##Phantom Rush: disformation
Starting Day 3 the following ability will be upgraded: Spirit Lance Chase this. Phantom Lancer sends his lance to a target of his choice for 20 damage, and will keep his target from moving anywhere on the roster. Cooldown - One phase. Starting Day 4 the following ability becomes available: Juxtapose All of us thank you. When this ability is activated, you will copy yourself 4 times and deal 5 times (4 copies plus the real you) your basic attack to 4 different town players. You will need to name SPECIFIC SLOTS on the roster. The first town player situated above each of your copies will receive your attacks. Cooldown - 3 phases. Please submit to the host account as: ##Juxtapose: #1, #7, #8, #22, #30
Actions
As outlined in the example role PM above, this game will feature a lot of abilities and actions. Most actions are usable both at Day and Night phases and there will be a round of actions each Day and each Night phase. Every player is to submit an action for each phase before the corresponding resolution time. If you fail to hand in an action before the resolution time, you will deal 5 damage to yourself.
Basic Attacks count as an action. Only one action per phase can be performed.
Claims
You guys may not claim your role. You may post your Hero's name if you like, But cannot claim your abilities as they are written.
Disclaimer
This game is heavily themed. A great deal of effort by multiple people has been made to balance this game. This is not a bastard game, as there are standardized rules and procedures I have written down in terms of role interaction. That being said, balance is impossible to assure due to the massive number and complexity of the roles involved.

If the Mods ever think your being off-topic, you most likely will receive a warning about it. In general, try to focus on the fact that this is a mafia game, and not, idk, a N64 discussion thread.
If you don't stop after a warning, obv we will either Modkill/replace you for failing to follow the rules.
Just play like you have played before NU, and you should mostly be fine.
So it looks like we arent going to have enough signups. We need at least 17, and for the game to be really good we need in the mid 20's. So I am going to hold sign ups open for a while longer.. Lets end signups on next monday for now and game start will be on tuesday.

Just as a reminder, do note that this is a themed game, and has mechanics that are not usually in normal mafia games both on this site and as a whole for the game of mafia. Also, depending on the site you come from, TL might be far more active in terms of number of pages that can be produced.
Just bare that in mind, I don't see any major issues you could have with this particular theme game (hopefully). Have fun!
I have played themed mafia before so it wont be a big problem and I have played games with 20-30 pages per phase.
YEah the activity will be much higher than that. I think we will be aournd a 70+ page day 1. So please prepare yourself for that

E.g. you may not say: "I have a banhammer ability that has a 3 phase cooldown and lets me vig ppl who forget to vote."
Added additional clarifications to the Game Mechanics and Setup post. Please remember that there is a round of actions each phase and that each player is to submit an action each phase before the corresponding resolution time.

Another thing on this. If your ability has any restrictions you may not say what those restrictions are. If your ability targets only dire. You may not say this. You can ask someone if they are dire. But you may not say why you are asking.
Doing so past this point will result in you losing that ability. Yes we are reading the game.

And all actions are due in at this point. Anyone who doesnt send in actions with have a 5 HP penalty. Voting is also closed at this time. Anyone failing to vote will get a warning. A second time failing to vote will result in your modkill.
