He basically documented every mistake C9 was making in games in his twitter live reports, so clearly he's aware that more went wrong than just 'Link has a weaker champion pool,' but he probably thinks his presence also helps to alleviate some of that. I really don't think what he said is worth crucifying. Well it's always easier to point out mistakes when you're watching a game.. Hai may be better than Link but not by much. They maybe could have taken a game from OMG but SKT ? Nah

Q: Which opponent was the most memorable from this tournament? Piglet: San was the most memorable. Even if his team was failing, he did all that he could do. Impact: Balls, and Gogoing looked good. Faker: I lost quite a lot to Link when we first practiced against one another. His laning phase was great. PoohManDu: YellOwStaR was good. I was thankful that he let us pick Zyra. I knew he was famous for his Leona, and he didn't disappoint. Things could have gone dangerous for us due to his Leona plays. Bengi: I was most wary of Meteos. His Elise troubled us when we were scrimming. Even though we didn't get to see his Elise play, I hope he can show the world next time he plays.

Seems like blame deflection to me. I think it's ridiculous that anyone can chastise a progamer for having this sort of confidence, no matter how unrealistic it may seem to us. Progamers showing humility in interviews is 100% an act anyway. Total confidence in your ability to beat anyone is key for a championship-winning team. Even if it's not true, that confidence is an enormous morale/motivation factor (it's a lot easier to get motivated when your mindset is "I can't stand losing because we're supposed to beat everyone" than "we can never beat these guys anyway so winning doesn't matter"). (Sorry to single you out Kiett, it's meant to be a general comment about this sort of attitude, not just directed at you.)

(Sorry to single you out Kiett, it's meant to be a general comment about this sort of attitude, not just directed at you.) I agree with this. It's the same with professional sports. There are so many cases of players saying they're elite or the best, when the fact is they aren't, or coaches saying they're going to win a match when they're way behind. The thing is, what do you want them to say? "We suck and can't come back, we should really just give up now."? "This guy is way better than me, I have no chance."? To be the best you need to have the mentality that you can succeed and have a chance to win. Sometimes it will look ridiculous, but I'd much rather see Hai saying something inaccurate rather than knowing he's mentally given up hope on beating a team like SKT. Qtpie had a really good bit on this in an interview with Travis after Dig beat C9 where he was asked for his prediction on Dig's record for the rest of the split. Qt said "26-2, what else do you want me to say, 16 and something? 4 and 24?", and then Travis gave him some canned answer about working hard and practicing a lot and Qt parroted it. It really summed up the silliness of asking players about if they'll win or not, which drives me nuts in all sports, hence this wall of text.

While I agree that having confidence and a can-do attitude is imperative for any serious competitor, be it in e-sports, traditional sports, or generally any kind of competition, there are times and ways to show the said confidence, but then there are times and ways of showing it that really just make you look like an idiot. Saying stuff like he did AFTER the games were played is really bad taste, in my opinion, especially given the results. It's like, I don't know, a striker for a local football club probably shouldn't go on record to say that they would've at least scored a few goals, especially since he's got some moves Messi haven't even heard of, if only he were able to play on the day, after they'd gotten trashed 0-10 by Barcelona or something.

He's not playing in the games. What the hell is he supposed to say before the games? "C9 will lose with Link, but would win with me"? That makes him sound like an even bigger ass. The way he said it is the only sensible way to accounting for the fact that his team is playing in the event but he isn't. On May 12 2014 06:17 Kiett wrote: That's not really what I meant. If he had said, "We learned a lot from this experience, and I know that next time we meet, we'll definitely be able to take a game off of SKT," that would signify confidence and optimism, but in a more appropriate way (even if I personally disagree with the sentiment). I guess it's just the "would have" thing that rubs me the wrong way. It's so easy to say stuff like "If x, y, or z happened, we would have won." Woulda, coulda, shoulda man. In other words, you want the same meaningless PR bullshit you've come to expect from years of BW interviews thanks to disciplined PR training and the humility of Korean culture.
