Maybe I'd agree with you if it stays that way. However, for me it is a welcome relief compared the the boring 'press R and stack ultimates until everyone melts' strategy. And I feel like it makes clutch ultimate use even more necessary (Sona's / Xin's come to mind).

But yeah, Giant's Belt is a staple for a lot of standard defensive items and with Warmog's it's too strong right now (but I guess Riot already admitted that and is going to tweak this irrc). But maybe this wouldn't be a problem if 'real' APs would be played more often which they currently are not because of the strong AD casters (Kha'zix is ridicoulus on this patch). That way, a Singed couldn't just stack armor + HP and have 200+ armor left after LW penetration, thus overall champs would die faster again.

I agree that it's refreshing, but the tendency is a lot less appealing to me.
Having threats like Kha'Zix forces AD carries to build more defensively, which I'm fine with (even though they end up using the same default items than everyone, hi warmogs). The problem is that with everyone building so tanky, the loss of damage from an AD carry means it takes ages to kill somebody.
Add to that that everybody is so tanky that burst can't kill anyone anymore, and you go from intermediate teamfights where after the dust of initiation settles, there are wounded and low targets of various priorities that have to reposition, manage cooldowns, etc. accordingly, to teamfights where the main effect of initiation is "Kha'Zix is now in the middle of us, move back to avoid him" and everybody's full HP.

Toward the end of s2/start of s3 it's true that burst and initiation had too much importance (Kha'Zix, Eve, MF really [too] strong). But now wer'e on the other extreme of the scale, where burst doesn't really matter (or only if it's followed by "regular" carry dps, cf. Kha'Zix) because it fails to kill, or even bring low anyone, and then you're useless.

The only AP champs that I see having success (in a teamfighting comp context, obviously stuff like Nidalee will remain godlike at poking and splitpushing) if that tendency keeps going are Karthus, Ryze, Eve, Kayle... champs who, more importantly than burst, have excellent dps on top of durability/survivability (Karthus doesn't need to build tanky but his passive makes it so he'll still do more damage and it's what counts).

Having Viktor go from powerful pick to weak, and my last game plagued by 10 belts/belt items and 4 kindlegems/kindlegem items felt pretty symptomatic to me.
