When to Freeze and When to Push

Hello everyone and I want to see if you guys agree with my view on when to push and when to freeze your lane (mostly talking about mid lane). I think that freezing is very good for denying gold when you are ahead since if you freeze the lane near your tower but still have the advantage you will almost always win the lane and snowball a lot harder than your opponent. I think that minion control is very important for laners (obviously). But I want to hear what you guys think on the subject, share your view.

Here is also a video I made on the topic:

It's all dependent upon how the rest of the map is going. For example there are times you're going to want to freeze the lane to keep the wave on your side so you can either 1) catch up on CS or 2) hold it on your side of the map so enemy laner has to come deep into your territory.

But you also have to consider the fact that if you're playing without TP and you're freezing the lane, the enemy can easily go group and fight at objectives or do other things on the opposite side of the map and you're basically useless because you're providing no pressure while freezing.

I agree having a lot of minions near your tower can make you useless if the enemy team is coordinated and forces an objective. Playing passive all the time wont win you games you need to know when to become aggressive in order to take the lead.

I don't really see it as worth it in mid lane to be honest with you. The lanes too short and mid laners usually have ranged spells to last hit the creeps on your side of the map so its easier to push you into tower and reset the wave. I don't have that much experience in mid lane as I main support but I don't see it as a viable option compared to the side lanes.

Mid laners should really be trying to roam rather than freeze and farm, obviously there are different circumstances in which CS should be prioritised instead of looking for kills in other lanes but the majority of times it would be more effective to push the lane in and roam if you are winning it.

Sorry, maybe I phrased it wrongly. I do agree that side lanes freezing is more beneficial than mid lane. However I think that if you have the advantage you can freeze the lane and zone away the enemy because you will most likely have ranged spells aswell and if you manage to get freeze the lane in that sweet spot just before the tower you can stay next to your melee minions you can attack the enemy when they go for cs. And yes it is very important for mid to push lane to relieve pressure and also push before ganking.

That's a good introductory video on minion control. I agree that there's definitely a time and place for freezing your lane in front of your tower in mid lane. It depends on your lane opponent's power spikes and roam potential. If your enemy is Katarina and she hit level 6, you don't want to be freezing the lane and giving her the chance to double kill bot lane.

Incidentally, I've always been interested in how to freeze your lane indefinitely. Especially in top/bot lane. Whenever I get a freeze next to my tower it'll invariably start slow pushing out eventually. This is due to your minions arriving to lane faster, stacking up first, and usually focus firing the same minion with a better concave. I've heard that it's possible to indefinitely freeze your lane which is one reason why Flame's been such a strong top laner. I'd love to know how that's done.

Well freezing your lane for such a long period of time wont be easy.As far as I know you will have to give up some cs to compensate for your minions coming earlier but I unfortunately cant give you any numbers since this is very dependant on your and your opponents match up and how the minions focus the enemy one.

To freeze your lane, without relying on your enemy lasthitting:
1.) manipulate enemy minionwave by aggroing his first meele minion and pulling it a bit to the side, so his minions team up on yours for a bit (makes your first minion die sooner which snowballs the lane towards your direction and makes him having 1 or 2 minions left after your wave is wiped).
2.) make sure those extra minions don´t get killed by your tower before your next wave arrives (tank them)
when the next wave arrives, if necessary, repeat step one, with the additional the enemy should have left, his wave should be pushing hard right now
Ideally you will be able to have your wave killed and having his caster minions still up, from there on it´s really easy to freeze.
