I think today's tests were fun and fantastic. Thanks to everyone who participated. The AP duo seems to have a lot of potential, and unless someone recommends a different team composition or idea we may continue testing it (though I'd like to shake things up some). If I missed anything, or you have your own comments, please note it here.

We've done a lot of Ryze but very little Cassiopeia. I also heard Veigar was getting a buff. Would he be viable with some buffa?

Our final game of the night clearly demonstrated the most glaring flaw with the AP + Support lane, pushing power. Zoning the enemy from creeps is fine, but only if the enemy's duo isn't hard pushing your tower. It's imperative that the AP + Support lane be capable of pushing hard in order to match an aggressive opposing duo. Ryze in particular, despite all his other benefits, has issues pushing hard. It's impossible for him to do so in a mana-efficient manner due to his lack of AoE. For this reason he should only be paired with supports who are capable of assisting in a hard push, and those supports must be played as such. Lulu, Leona, Taric, and Soraka are the best options for this. Teemo is in a similar position, though not quite as bad. Cassiopeia and Kayle, on the other hand, are very capable of pushing hard. It's thus not as necessary to pair them with supports who can help them push. Attention should still be paid to this aspect of the team composition, but there's a significantly greater amount of leeway available in terms of support picks. That issue, however, is only relevant in 1v2 swap situations. I believe the AP + Support duo has plenty of potential against AD + Support combinations, especially those without built-in sustain. Just as Cassiopeia is an unexplored avenue, I believe we should also explore the composition without swapping. Having a better sense of which 2v2 matchups the AP + Support lane can win is important to understanding the limitations of the composition (and being prepared for counter-swaps).

So Heimer and Maokai suffer from the same old issues which generally limit their ability to function as supports. There's nothing in particular about the AP support duo which makes them more viable.

Lulu and Janna both work if you want a ranged support. Soraka can grab a point of Q to provide push, and provide mana if you're expecting to rely heavily on mana-based harass/pushing, but her protection is limited to healing and very little peel. Have you guys experimented with Annie in the "AP being supported" position? She's not TOO reliant on ulti (The stun is acceptably good with Q or W too, she can waveclear quickly with W or reasonably-fast-but-mana-free with Q. I like the Veigar suggestion in this position too. Both annie and Veigar are TERRIFYING to lane against if they have someone who can set up their short-range high-damage stun-combo.

Annie having a support like say, Leona, also means she doesn't have to play the lane around her passive. As long as she's within a couple spells of it the support setup allows her to get the stun in, instead of a normal mid lane where the opponent can easily tell when they can and can't be aggressive towards the Annie.
