Naut has good sustained damage, but lacks burst to get you from 100-0 in a combo unless really far ahead, or against squishies with a more damage oriented build. Long auto range, and reliable disengage/engage means he controls fights against most melee's(aka getting off grasp procs for free), and his gank assist really is unparalleled. | ||

Plus his long auto range doesn't mean much because his auto cancels itself if the target walks out of range, which between the animation for his passive and his garbage base AS can happen easily. What people mean by "sustain champ" is "someone capable of sustaining himself" not "someone dealing sustained damage", for Naut it's because of the shield. | ||

Shield isn't really for sustaining himself. it's too important as a damage/trade skill to use simply to block a bit of damage. His sustain is simply grasp + trade control. Very few melee champs can force trades on you that you can't win/walk away from in decent shape. | ||
