I know that if I can't ever play with any friend at all in one of the ranked modes (the new "solo ranked") I'll probably give up on that mode, not sure how things will go for the majority though.

It's not like soloq gives any unique reward right now either. On January 19 2016 19:44 Maluk wrote: At least there is some kind of logic in ranked queues now. I don't understand how playing solo and playing duo were considered exactly the same thing in the previous system. But at the end of the day one of the new queues will be regarded as the "skill standard" and the other one will be more or less deserted. I know that if I can't ever play with any friend at all in one of the ranked modes (the new "solo ranked") I'll probably give up on that mode, not sure how things will go for the majority though. It all depends on what dynamic queue feels like once people are settled in. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, (EU MASTER RACE,) but I imagine it might suffer from having duo/trios with pretty big rating gaps, which can really drag down the enjoyment of a game if i'm tryharding. Ideally (imo) it would end up with soloq being the "official" rank, and dynamic being a cross between fun ranked 5's and draft normals in terms of how you use it to play with friends. Of course if half the people in dynamic are using it as relaxed friends ranked, and half are using it as their primary competitive queue, that's going to go well :p Also are they doing away with ranked 5's? they seemed to be ignoring that completely in the post

Like, if guy A is masters in Solo and platinum in Dynamic, and guy B is platinum in Solo and masters in Dynamic, which of them has the bigger E-Penis? Logically you might say well player A is a better player because player B got carried by his friends, but then again you might also say that player B is a better player because if player A is so good in solo and so bad in dynamic he's probably toxic and nobody wants to play with him. Or it might end up being that the queue people care about more is the one that's more popular, which will almost definitely be Dynamic once the bugs are worked out of it. One thing that might be really nice about it is that, if they're both ranked, both fairly busy, and use seperate MMR ratings, you could play seriously in Dynamic and use Solo to learn new champions in a queue where people give a shit, instead of pretending you're learning new champions in Blind Pick where you're always against off-meta champions in roles nobody plays them in, and everybody stops being serious after level 6.

I thought dynamic queue would be fine for solo, but if there was concern they could have just adjusted the matchmaking. Isn't this exactly what quite a large portion of the playerbase has been asking for? Absolute worst case scenario is the solo queue just has population issues, and they can shut it down in a few months without anyone really being able to complain. Doesn't dynamic also enforce the "one league difference" rule for partying up though? If this ends up killing off ranked 5's, does that mean I can never play ranked with a gold/silver friend again?

Lyte pretty clearly says in the post that there will be no more ranked 5's queue at all. The only ranked queues will be Solo and Dynamic.

Many people will definitely feel like the earth is suddenly collapsing under them. Playing duos with friends was still a competitive experience, and it helped many people to lift their ranked anxiety, but now they have to play the casual queue if they want to duo, which is like team builder. It is fun, but if you have any competitive aspirations (and this goes from bronze players to challenger ones), you will simply starve for more. On the other hand, playing a thousand solo games one after another can be really exhausting. Like, most of the people will want to play at least a few dynamic queue once in a while, just so they can rant to friends a bit, and alleviate some pressure. Lyte loves social experimentations, and this will be his biggest one.

I forsee many reddit threads in in the near future "I just ranked up and can't play with my team anymore" "I've been playing 5's with my friends for years, but suddenly we can't queue together" "Do I need to throw games to play with my 4 friends?"

That's some bronze-logic, calling out people for unrelated stuff. "Oh, you're only that high, cuz you play champion X, which is op!" "Oh, you might be masters, but you are a meanie! I'm a nice guy! Me >>> you!!" Many people will definitely feel like the earth is suddenly collapsing under them. It could be argued, more simply, that if you're a solo god but gold in dynamic, you suck at organized play which is the "real" LoL (eg, the LoL of the pros, etc.), then you suck at LoL in general. Which is why I'm not convinced that solo will immediately become the "competitive" mode, it's actually difficult to decide between the two in my opinion. Personally, I would consider being Diamond in 5v5 a greater achievement than being Diamond in solo, but I can understand the other position as well. At the end of the day it will be a simple matter of playerbase opinion. Maybe both queues can be popular if they become the expressions of two "visions" of LoL : Solo queue for those who admire the 1v5 mechanical god hypercarry, Dynamic queue for those who admire the strategic mastermind, the ultimate unifier of his team.

Being diamond in 5v5, at least in the current system, is really easy. Teams of low plats do it pretty often, it's really just grinding out games and not actively gimping each other. Since you can soloq in dynamic queue anyway, you can just treat it as a second solo queue, albeit with higher variance because your own influence on the game is slightly reduced. So the idea of someone being a beast in solo but sucking in dynamic doesn't make any sense. And on top of that, even if you carry your premade 5 team by being an amazing shotcaller/captain/unifier/whatever, then that's still only one of the 5 people on that team who actually did anything special to deserve the rank. That's 20% of 5 stack players.

Are we sure the "one tier apart" rule also applies for premade 5s?

Dunno, there doesn't seem to be much information out about it, but i'm gonna give riot the benefit of the doubt and assume if you're a 5 stack the limit is removed. Because otherwise that would be beyond retarded

Seems like it would be a nice distinction to have on ones profile though I suppose.

if soloq indeed stays relevant and played by a lot of people i wouldn't be surprised if riot kneels under community pressure and at the end redistributes rewards equally
