The main reason I'd stopped playing any of the champions I decided to stop playing a lot of champions is because they all got nerfed. It's fair for them to shake up the meta. I just wish it didn't make everything weaker.

funny how you just described a bunch of pretty cool champions (except darius) who just so happen to have interesting, flexible kits that grant them a bunch of innate potential for power. now what if every champion was like that???!?!??!??
Basically what I'm saying is that guy is gonna make league an interesting game, whether he has to drag the rest of riot screaming behind him or not.
Zyra was the only champ in 3 years to have gotten hotfixed for being incredibly overpowered. Darius won every single lane, and would get one kill after another in lane. Thresh has been banpick forever, despite getting nerfed repeatedly, because broken levels of utility. Yasuo - windwall, numbers. Kalista - hello mobility creep.
Release power level isn't a good sign of if a champion is good design. Any champion can be broken if you give them big numbers. A good design is a champion which doesn't wildly swing between op and useless from minor changes.
Except you are describing Zed, Yasuo, and Darius who really are either super meta and crowding out champions or useless. Lee sin, on the other hand, just crowds out champions all the time.
I was mostly refering to Zyra. It really annoys me when people say she was bad design because "hurp durp, she had to get hotfixed after a day" when afterwards she was fairly balanced for most of the time.
Also, I think Riot's stance on Zed is reasonable. His assassination pattern is probably the healthiest of all the assassins in the game, but he does too much other stuff along with it.
I agree Zyra could be fine. I don't think she can be fine as a support with high-base damage plants because there just isn't enough waveclear botlane during the lane phase.
Also I agree Zed has a decent assassination pattern...but...there are no healthy assassination patterns in LOL, because unless Kassadin or Ryze are in the game the #1 and #2 Farm priority champions are squishies, which is not how it is in DOTA.
So what? The whole point of assassins is high risk, high reward.. If it wasn't worth the effort to try to kill them then nobody would play assassins.
Even if assassins made adcs completely nonviable it wouldn't break the game. ADC is the only type of champ that is in every game. You often don't see AP carries, don't see assassins, don't see bruisers, don't see tanks, don't see melee supports, don't see ranged supports, but you always see adcs. Games without adcs would be fun to see though I doubt we ever will, maybe if there's some duo lane combos that can match adc+support.
Yeah, but aren't you worried about how hard it'd be for a team with no ADC to push down towers? Aside from AP centric attack speed champions, and some spellblade wielders, no one else has an ADC's damage to towers, and certainly no one with as much safety as the ADCs.
Also ADC scaling tends to close out games. If tankiness outscaled damage then you'd see these lame ass slugfests with tanks hitting other tanks with pool noodles as weapons.
I'd like to see it too. But I think it'd be best in some kind of special game mode like "no adc mode" where you're not allowed to get IE, PD, or Shiv. Just so if things go wrong, you don't need to revert everything to fix the meta.
Isn't every champion picked consistently in pro level a generalist pick? Nobody plays champs with weak laning phase (unless you count vayne lol), nobody picks champs that can't farm safe from the jungle etc
Yes, you are getting there...

Obviously assassins work on mages and supports but mages have zhonyas and supports aren't worth blowing up most of the time.
But now you're off track again.
The problem with assassins being generalists (which is not a problem with other champions, generally) is that they tend to be lane-dominant as well once they get their tools (Mostly at 6, earlier for Leblanc and Syndra), so they don't actually need kills to get farm. But if they get kills and the farm that starts a snowball in a way that it wont for non-assassins. So there isn't actually the high-risk part of the "high risk-high-reward" scenario you are sketching out.
In teamfights, sometimes there is, but really not so much. We are in a teamfight meta right now that is focused on dragons, and the dominant midlaners are Zed, Leblanc, and Syndra with Lissandra (valued for being a flex), Kassadin, and Ahri in the next tier. Ori and Xerath are being picked a decent amount, but with crappy winrates.

On a different note I feel like Zyra is just improperly fleshed out - why she as a plant mage has that ult doesnt really make too much sense and her kit just feels all over the place. Like when you compare her to Rek'Sai or Yasuo it just seems not cohesive. Makes playing her boring and shallow imo.

I dont mind assassins being A tier must knows for the role midlane, mostly because they serve a fairly solid purpose in drafts and are by and by balanced against the other meta midlaners. That being said its annoying that I think in large part due to them we dont see the B tier mages that cant handle assassin pressure as well as Syndra and Orianna come forward unless they have some utility that makes them wholely unique or fill a special void in the meta. Champs Like Anivia/Viktor/Kennen/Lux all just dont see play regardless of the fact that they all have situations that they are blatantly the best picks in, just because they dont have the base ms or dont have the self peel or sommat similar to handle assassin/jungle pressure. Im hoping with some of the changes Riot makes throughout the season a couple of them get opened back into the champion pool up there (Mostly Anivia and Kennen).

Anivia simply won't get picked any more. Far too abusable in lane by good players, and doesn't provide early game objective pressure. Her teamfight control is nice, but she can't handle getting allined by many more modern mids, nor can she handle a lot of the junglers that are common. Simply moves too slow.

ROA+tears is still a viable build route for her as well.
Kennen's problem is that he, Gnar and Liss all occupy roughly the same role in the metagame and Gnar was overpowered before 5.1 and Liss has a gapclose. That being said Kennen's ult is stronger in the midgame/lategame because I just think it does more damage with more reliable utility. Hopefully someone up there takes him up and he gets legitimized (because really thats all you need imo).
Anivia is more of a kind of wish - I wish she was Ori status because shes so interesting to watch and to play.
All that aside, anyone know how to play out Yasuo vs Azir without getting ripped a new asshole? Azir is just so hard to lane against if you have sub-800 range. Why does he have 800 range again?

Still weak before level 9/15 minutes, Anivia doesn't have any issues with mid/late game. With Exhaust and good play she can survive assassins easily with Zhonyas, Seraph/RoA and some AP. The main issue Anivia has is that she won't get to those items, she gets shoved in early super hard by any midlaner with the ability to push pre 6 (pretty much all of them), and even if she manages to push, she'll still get punished by junglers who her slow moving stun, lack of a gapcloser, slow movement speed to kill her. Anivia her kit is out of date and cannot be fixed by buffs unless you wanna make her overpowered, she has a few ok match-ups like Lux or Ori, but Lux is a niece pick and Ori outshines her in the midgame and has more utility in the late-game. Overall Anivia needs buffs to her base stats to make her fairly tanky compared to the slow squishy bird she is now. At the moment she is a mid-short range super squishy mage with meh laning and meh roaming. The only thing good about her is her teamfight, which gets outshined by Ori anyways so what is the point. 9/10 times games will end before Anivia becomes a threat, she'll just be dead-weight to the team until she gets to the point where she is good, and especially with the Athene and blue nerf I see no more reason to pick the champion.

Its not like placements matter because its based on MMR anyways, if you were Silver I you can climb back to it fairly fast if you drop lower, same goes for Gold I, Plat I etc.
