Wait, doesn't this mean someone has hacked LAN into the game so they can modify server-side stuff? What're the technical details for how this is happening?

no e3, it's a new riot-made mode coming out soonish. that stream is from the PBE it looks awesome reminds me of an old really-well-done WC3 custom map called "impossible bosses" (i think it was called that) i could never get enough friends together to beat that map (could beat the first of eight[?] bosses with 2 people and a lot of time, but it was impossible after that). hopefully doom bots are a real challenge and as fun as they look to play against

That Lux doom bot makes me have PTSD flashbacks from Touhou games lol

Yeah, when you're with bad people the solution to beating bots is already rat. Since they only changed the abilities, not the AI, then rat is still the solution.

To clarify, rat does not refer to twitch, (neither the champion nor the streaming service), but rather to a dota 2 split push strategy.

I can't believe they made it so fucking expensive though, really wish they just gave other support items the low gold costs, rather than make mikaels so expensive. Crucible costs basically 800 more gold for 10% CDR (mp5 is ignorable because between chalice's own mp5 and mana font Riot managed to find the worst stat to slap on it). You'd think "well that a kindlegem a bit worse", but take it this way: Crucible's price was increased by 50% in exchange for 10% CDR. That's expensive as balls and while the item was already slot-ineffective and cost-ineffective, they made it barely more slot-effective while utterly destroying its slot effectiveness. You pay 1600 for 10% CDR and the active. You pay its previous price for the active, basically, and you happen to have a chalice lying in your inventory. It's still good but it's not about the item itself, it's about the timing. It's considerably delayed unless you want to hurt your midgame (1600 gold is basically enough to get the active from your gold item, and they give you real stats/improvements for the cost too). Like Flare wasn't nerfed that much on paper, but because of how it delays your timing by 5 camps, so 2-3 minutes at best, which so happens to be right at the time you'd want to group and fight in pub games, making you have to choose between fighting with a weak item, or losing even more map presence and relinquishing the initiative to the enemy team, so that you can get stonger. Happening right as you start grouping it means a lot in terms of tempo/map control.
We may be getting some work on Mikaels and support items in general but it will probably be a while

Nasus got huge range nerfs which basically destroyed him. All the whither nerfs hurt, but were perfectly justified. When Riot slashed his cast ranges, he fell off the competitive radar; another example of why Riot should never touch ranges. Well that is why I am suspect of Maokai, so I agree. This iteration might be decent, but it seems hard to imagine him being viable for a long stretch.

This iteration might be decent, but it seems hard to imagine him being viable for a long stretch. Well, the difference here is that Maokai also got his significant cast time removed from W, which might alleviate some of the range nerfing. Saplings now having a slow might also help too. Plus, Riot also wanted to shift his role from back line diving into being a strong peeler, which works perfectly with the rest of his kit, especially his redesigned ult.
In the past, Riot's range nerfs basically were only done to lower power levels, albeit (usually) excessively. Maybe this time, with the rest of the kit changes, the Maokai rework will end up being a net buff. The question basically becomes whether or not the rest of the changes gives him enough peeling/front line power to make up for his gimped dive/ganking potential.

Peeling jungler with low early game presence you say? Well hot damn, why didn't I think that would be popular in pro play? Seems like he needs to be a support with that kind of role, so the question is: Better at keeping your backline safe than Braum, Thresh, and Ali?
I mean, these days one of the things that all teams are looking for is ways to initiate fights and new Maokai is not very good at that.

As I sit here and watch all these LCS and OGN games, I am left wondering why we don't see more early game bursty/snowballing 100-0 champs and more assassins? The only people that seem to go tanky nowadays are the jungler and maybe the top laner if they are Renekton or Shyv.
Being totally serious here, I think Riven would be a good pick again for this meta, once you see that their only tank is gonna come from the jungle, and that takes time for them to get the defenses and HP, you should be able to get a bunch of kills/assists with her and just snowball the game so easily.
As for Braum, he just tends to get raw HP and not a ton of defenses, so the ADC with BotRK can cut through him pretty easily.
|
because exhaust exists
also if you fall behind on one of those guys you're fucked for the game and you just play 4v5 like why would a team take that risk. I don't play much braum but him getting raw hp is fine because his E and W give a lot of resists/damage reduction. It's like buying hp first on Leona or something.
|
BotRK doesn't do much when the guy gets 30% damage reduction regardless. Riven would get wrecked in 1v2 and you're gonna eat it if the enemy team sees you pick that. Assassins don't work as well because shit like Braum, Thresh, etc. are popular, and because Exhaust transforms "I caught you!" into "I just offered myself to you!", while Heal ensures that they'll live anyway.
Plus try and assassinate Ziggs clearing from 1500 range.
|
thresh and morg have great carry protection and AoE anti dive tools that are great with ranged champions but they can also catch people which means you don't need any initation as at least not as badly. exhaust and heal are real strong as well.
|
I'm not saying first pick Riven, I mean pick the burst/assassin champ later on in the selection process, like 3rd or 4th, if not last pick. And Thresh was popular back in s3 when the assassins were so strong, with Exhaust, and it still didn't matter.

well zed was heavily a splitpusher though

4.9's competitive play's assassin was Twitch.
Being melee in general sucks atm, unless you're Yasuo, Kassadin or (hue) Kayle. If you don't play tanky you'll die before reaching the enemy because peel+super strong ranged champions (seriously Ziggs' dps and mana expanses are so friggin' dumb considering how safe he is), and if you do well you don't have much influence unless it's during the midgame and you're farmed (Irelia for example; in soloQ because peeling her when grouping is rather easy), or maybe you're Shyvana.
