Jax?

So far the ones I've seen do successfully with Feral Flare are Nocturne, Yi and Xin. I haven't seen a Trynd yet.

Double heal still gives you effectively 3.5 heals, which is stronger than 1 barrier/heal + exh/ignite. It might be enough to survive an all-in and use the MS boost to kite and turn it around?

I love how people keep posting "What is the optimal rune setup now?", "Show runes at All Stars please because of the changes!", etc on Reddit. It's like they completely missed the point of the changes in the first place.

I tried playing Maokai like Diamond advocated. Holy shit.
I mean, sure you deal a lot of damage, and you kill your first buff ridiculously fast. But the total lack of MR except from items (no runes, no masteries, and Maokai is one of the relic melee champions without scaling MR) makes you squishy as fuck and you still use half your mana every single fight post-6 because of your ult and the aggressive scaling of W's cost. And he's still a "4-protect-1" typical champion in the teamfights phase, too squishy to dive even with ult, with the heal from his passive pretty weak because people outdamage it in the time it takes for you to auto, and not very good compared to others at staying in the frontline in a meta where Shyvana is as big a carry as Jinx.
Not sure how you get so much success when he seems really reliant on your team being aware that you're going to fall off super fast, the comp to have the damage to make up for you later in the game, no good itemisation (no mana from banshee anymore, FH still bad, and you can't really afford to get 2 MR items or you're going to be 6-slotted with components early so no wards). He's still fun and strong early but it's frustrating to have to rely so much on your team past level ~8.

What I really hate about rune changes is since they are so expensive, it is impossible to "try out" stuff like you can with masteries, so in the end you kind of have to see what pros or people with the time and ip to spend on experimentation thinks. I know Riot rebalanced stuff cause they want everything to be viable, but yeah... not the first time I've heard that one

There is always an optimal...

He's no T1, and with the 4.5 patch I'm not sure if he's even usable anymore as AS junglers like Yi and Noc are pretty strong vs him.
Like I think I said, he's a fun different jungle. I've had ok success in ranked with him (9-7, one loss was full game d/c on our team) and seem to be able to keep up most of the game only falling off super late. I do have a lot of Maokai games as I have played him since S2, so maybe it's just I know the champ really well, idk.
Also with the rune changes, idk if that rune setup is good anymore either, 4.5 was pretty large changes
Sorry didn't work out for you however!
Edit: The lack of MR on Mao's kit is so lame, that does indeed suck.

Oh yeah, saw Aranae play jungle Rengar was pretty good although it definitely seemed really slow at the start

Something I don't really understand with runes is the interest people give to the scaling option. In my mind, runes are the most important at lvl 1-6, when you basically don't have items. When you get items, the stat given by your runes will be proportionally less and less significant. So if I want to get the most bang for my buck, I would go for the flat ones, bully my way through early game and ride that advantage with bigger/better items later, even if they get a little more from their runes in the long run. If I fall behind early, I don't think scaling runes are what is gonna let me get back in the game regardless. Does that make any sense to anyone else? Only exception I can think of is the scaling CDR runes. Am I doing it wrong?

Scaling MR glyphs in the jungle, some bot match-ups, or top. You can also just mix flat and scaling (I do 4 flat 5 scaling on most of my pages iirc) and be set.

Noticed a couple junglers (namely Oddone) trying out scaling armor in solo que, sort of interesting. You are oly 1 or so armor behind flat @ lvl 3 which is when your 1st gank is anyways.
Going to try it out, makes sense in my head.

For a second, my mind thought "Squenix is getting in on esports!?"

honestly Rengar in the jungle got a straight nerf with the remake, early jungling is slow now because no more as and the gigantic nerf on his ult defeats his strongest point. Before the remake you had a hard time ganking before 6, but once you had it you became super obnoxious to the other team, especially botlane. Now it is just a dash that can bypass maybe one ward if it's warded really close to the lane.
No idea how it is toplane, your empowered stuff is up more often now so he should be able to sustain decently well, but no more Q on towers and ult jukes so no more splitpush I guess
I hope the guy that remade him can remake leesin too
|
Well it's good that Rengar lost his splitpushing. He did pretty much everything a melee can do before.
