Ziggs I dunno. It's possible! I can see Renekton winning against Ziggs by all-in and snowball, but if the Ziggs manages to escape couple of the all-in, Renekton will be behind so bad that it's hurt.

Ryze is seeing a resurgence after the buffs, but he's not nearly as a contested pick as he was before the nerfs. I mean, other champions are picked, but my god I feel like I've watched the Renekton vs Shyvana match-up a million times this season.

We have seen the Ryze vs Renekton counterpick as well so it's not JUST Trundle/Shyvana/Renekton. Although I think we won't be seeing out of meta picks often since most of the more niche top laners have been eliminated from OGN.

as for the bit on top lane balance, there's a much longer post to be made here but to be brief the 'renekton bar' has been recognized as fundamental to top lane diversity for a very long time, certainly well before season 4. if that's all statikk had to say on the subject, then he's not really saying anything at all. the more useful question, at least in my mind, is how top lane and mid lane diversity differ, why that is the case, and how interactions in the 'healthier' lane can be copied over to the other Even if the "Renekton bar" is something they've used in the past, it certainly doesn't hurt to focus on it now. They've nerfed most of the popular Season 4 Top laners (as well as Doran's Shield) and yet they are still getting played over other champions. It's not perfect but it seems like a good starting point. that's true, and my post came out worded more harshly than i meant it to (and who am i to criticize, really?). the balance team clearly is thinking well beyond the basic ideas they state when interacting with the playerbase, and i'm hopeful that the recent top meta marks the nadir of the season

I think melee tops who don't have bushes to hide in and don't have any kind of burst suffer greatly in mid. For example, Singed and Trundle come to mind.

Nobody even mentioned Mundo top? Is he that bad now? I'm still having fun with him, and the new heal would be awesome on him if I wasn't running the even awesomer new tp already. Or maybe I should just say f**k it and run both, screw flash

He fell off after the Perseverance nerfs. Trundle sorta just replaced him in the Top lane trifecta.

The issue mostly is with the lack of gap closers while going against a ranged champion with at least one CC.

i see 4 big reasons, listed here in chronological order, for why mundo is no longer an s tier pick
- new shyvana tech: botrk shyvana is very strong against mundo and quickly became the standard response - perseverance/spirit visage nerf: listing these together because they had roughly the same effect and i have no idea which came first/am too lazy to look it up. big hit to his splitpushing and overall strength - dorans shield nerf: the final nail in the coffin, and in my opinion (and i really mean my own opinion here, because most would point to the perseverance/spirit visage nerfs) would have been sufficient on its own to knock mundo out of the big 3 (here obviously referring to one piece, naruto, and bleach). mundo's already suspect early game is made even worse

renekton mid is super scary, especially since they tend to be more damage oriented than their top brothers. the lvl 2 all ins with red pot vs soft mid champions is deadly

We can all agree that Feral Flare needs to be nerfed, right?

Am I missing something or is there a reason Kayle isn't in every game yet? The changes did very little to make her less nuts, but completely killed her popularity.

TBH I've yet to notice a jungler with Feral Flare and said "wow he's so strong".

No one plays Singed anyways so it's not like it matters where he goes/what he does :[
Mundo was a tad overrated even in his heyday but the various nerfs to his items like Doran's Shield and Spirit Visage just completely shut him down. It's very difficult for him to come out of lane in anything close to a threatening position against, say, Renekton. The only region I still see him a lot is in SEA/GPL. Even LPL ditched Mundo super quickly and they're behind a million patches.
Trundle is a slightly overrated pick top ATM, he's much more niche than people currently draft him as.
i don't know enough about Aatrox.
Ryze is OK but I think he's a bit overrated right now. Like he's still good but he's not a fit-all top laner. Standard hype from something new/exciting (lol Ryze new/exciting) and people want to draft him everywhere. He'll drop off in popularity SoonTM.

Try sending Lux top against Renekton and see what happens. It's not pretty. She'll be all "We can do this!" and you'll be like "No Lux. No, we can't do this." To be fair, Lux isn't a good pick in general.

Who was it on? I had a Yi carry the shit out of one of my games and I saw a tweet from Scarra saying he was getting banned in Challenger games. So he at least seems to do well with it.

My impression is that, at least from what streamers say, the excitement in around ryze at the challenger level is because he reliably beats Renekton, not that he is a broadly useful pick.
As for Aatrox, the biggest nerf he got was the gold reduction on first blood. At his height of popularity Aatrox was a pretty average jungler but his super early dive potential was huge because of his passive and before the snowball nerfs the correlation between first blood and victory was much stronger.

I like how I get a survey after a game asking me how I feel about the Rengar changes and if they good for him and I just simply put "Strongly Disagree"

Feral Flare works well if your team is ahead and super shitty when behind (especially if your mid loses tower by 10 minutes or something). I really hate this item.
I feel they need to nerf its damage as well as the # of stacks required for transformation.
|
The first thing they need to do is prevent you from having both wriggles and spirit stone, so Yi and Trynd can't solo baron at 15 minutes.

Pretty much. I ban Yi now, sort of tempted to ban Nocturne. But Nocturne as a champion is weak enough I don't think it makes that big of a difference for him.
