Since none of us are real racists we don't expect the "black guys like ass whites like boobs" stereotype joke. Getting offended on BEHALF of someone who MIGHT get offended is a silly thing to do. I guarantee you nobody got offended by that joke. No, it's important to be sensitive about the right things. I agree that LoL is not one of them, so you're right in that people should try to change their mindset to worry less about what other players say because it's incredibly meaningless. However, if people take an averse reaction to the words and thoughts of their teammates, they're well within their rights to want a healthier playing environment where people stop acting like dicks for no reason. Because even if you shouldn't be angry about it, those people are still dicks. If you wouldn't gang up and mock a stranger in real life, you shouldn't do it online because people are still people. It just helps that the stranger in question has the ability to ignore them if they want. And since it comes down to a matter of perspective, that's probably why this argument is going nowhere and why some people are bored with it. As far as the picture goes, I'm offended because A) it's not funny and B) racism is racism. So I guess your last point is wrong. Edit: And to a later point of yours, these are the kinds of things that perpetuate racism, but if you want me to explain that to you, I can do it outside of GD because, again, this is going nowhere.
If it was funny, would you think its okay?
If its within their rights to want a healthier place to play, then they can report them. However "feeding the fire" doesn't help anything.
I'm not sure about if raging and afking in a game when people flame you makes it more likely for someone else to think its okay, and I think it might be related to the whole "if you make racist jokes it spreads racism". That's another interesting topic but it goes further even more off-topic.
Oh, and my whole point about matter of perspective, doesn't mean the argument is going nowhere, because you can take another persons perspective "walk a mile in their shoes" is the colloquial phrase. Once you understand their behaviour you can accept it much more easily.
Regarding quinns: I've seen some quinns dominate, quinn mid seems to work for some reason, she doesn't seem to be that good bot for she's pretty dangerous when fed.

Aye been maining Quinn top pre-buffs already. I don't have lifesteal quints though, and I never play ADC so I'm not too keen on getting them. With red pot nerfed, what should I start? Just cloth/5 and never upgrade it? Or flask + ward + pot? Iunno.
Also Quinn mid works because her ult gives her amazing roaming potential + it's a safer lane. Same reason Vi never got played top but did get some playtime mid.

You actually have a lot of valid points Teut, and I usually do the same in a lot of situations and I rarely get frustrated when people are flaming me. It can get really frustrated when 2 people are arguing though cuz I know it greatly diminishes my chances of winning.

No. I wouldn't. See point #2. I'm offended as someone who likes humor and someone who likes people. Separately.
No, it doesn't. You're right. AFKing makes you just as much an ass as flaming in the first place. You still shouldn't have to play a game with shitheads. But there's no good answer here since it's only opinions butting heads.
I'm sorry that you lack a nuanced perspective on the whole matter of casually accepted social commentary and how it perpetuates deeply-ingrained bigotry.

I've taken a roguelike approach to playing LoL. It's like playing FTL or XCom - you can get lucky and get free weapons/good teammates or you get fucked by the RNG and get aliens/morons. Either way you still try to achieve the best outcome given your circumstances but don't play with the expectation of being able to win.
|
In the spirit of derailing this thread to slightly less controversial topics; what should I cook for dinner? Preferably something simple and/or cheap.

If you're not vegetarian: chicken caesar salad.
If you don't care about being particularly healthy: take a packet of instant ramen (such as Shin ramen), cook it, and then throw in an egg and a slice of processed cheese on top.
|
Do you have an opinion about casually accepted social commentary and how it perpetuates deeply-ingrained bigotry. You use of such a long phrase indicates you do but when I say "I'm not sure" I'm really not. Because I can imagine seeing a lot of rage afkers making you think afking and raging is more okay, but when you apply that argument for casually racist jokes I guess I think it makes casual racism okay but I don't think it makes really harmful prejudices okay. However I'm not sure about the gateway. (Like that shit where the woman couldn't find a job and made a separate account changing black to white and instantly got one, or the woman scientist changing gender and becoming more academically successful, that's pretty shocking)

How one reacts to flame depends on so many things - above all, what mood you are in. 97% - I would just ignore/mute flamers trolls. Rarely I flame back. But sometimes, I just press Alt+F4 and close my computer.

Yeah exactly. You can't change these things, so if you have arguing teammates you just laugh about it and do your best. UNLESS we're talking about equilash's potential 5's team. If you are sticking together in a arranged team having arguments in game CLG style is shit you need to lockdown since its absolutely within your control. About FTL; when I got it I played it for like a whole weekend straight, won it, and then completely lost interest. How hard is it to win regularly (like 70-80%+) if you're a good player. I don't care about all the other ships because I kinda like the 1st one best.

1 box Chicken Broth 1 lb. Chicken (can be less) Crushed Red Pepper Flakes A few cloves of garlic A head of cilantro 1/2 cup rice
1) Put the broth in a pot on the burner. Cut the chicken, garlic, and cilantro, add to the pot. Add red pepper flakes as desired.
2) Bring pot with all ingredients to a boil (evenly), then simmer for 25 minutes.
3) Add rice, bring to boil, then simmer for 15 minutes.
End result: delicious soup. Add avocado, salt, or tortilla chips if desired.

Without derailing this thread too far from food topics - why are you never online anymore Teut?

Enjoy with chips (or crisps or whatever they are where you're from), fries, or fried onions.

I'm not playing LoL recently because of my exams. I always get dragged into duo q's and such and play until 2 am and that's not healthy for grades. I'm free till next week now so I'm using all my procrastinenergy to argue on TL now so I'll have nothing to do by this evening when its time to crack down on study again.
I'll probably be back LoL-marathoning in about 2 weeks.

It can be any broth really... chicken, beef, something else... I bet you could make it work. =P Unless it's like... miso broth... that probably wouldn't mesh well.
|
chicken broth isn't sold there?
It's super common, just with different names. They're these little cubes that you mix in with water. There's some for chicken, beef, pork, fish... I don't really like chicken broth with like, rice. It has too strong of a taste :/ Maybe I should try half a cube. I think they're next to the spices usually
Also I love playing as support. Somehow I'm always in a better mood as support too, win or lose. Especially the games where the ADC doesn't flame you are lovely. Maybe I should buy more supports(Thresh)

If you're going to buy thresh, do it soon before he gets gutted
