And Zed's an AD caster so he has better sustained dps than Akali (esp. thanks to W passive late game) and doesn't rely on resets. His W to go through walls and stuff is also better than shroud as an escape tool, his E allows him to clear waves quickly (Akali's E is only used for this really) and he can poke with Q better than her.
In general, he's safer in lane and has better damage without committing.

Yep. It's killed me a couple times when I accidentally click top right corner of it by accident, but well worth it. Minimaps do not belong in the bottom right.

I would think former Dota players would use bottom left as well. As a BW, Wc3, and Sc2 players for the past 13 years, my minimap awareness increased 10 fold when I realized I could switch. I had the shittiest map awareness before I switched, it was ridiculous.

I play it on the bottom right. From playing BW it should be on bottom left but i got so used to it in league i cant change it now -_-

Pretty much this. Got so used to it being bottom right, when I went to try switching back to bottom left, I recoiled at how unnatural it felt.

I would think that minimap would be better on the bottom right, because all lanes kinda run from bottomleft -> topright, so it would be placed over a river or jungle rather than a lane. Then again the champion icons ARE on the left and I find myself using them more and more for evaluating a lane situation quickly, so it would be smaller trip for the eyes.
And I myself don't really care about part of a lane being covered by a minimap, l0l. Maybe I should switch, but after being used to sc2 position of minimap from 2K+ games and then relearning it in 2K+ games of LoL it would feel like a massive shame to relearn it back. Oh well.

It's mostly the escape mechanism. Because Akali lacks one she requires patience and a good sense of how to position and when to commit. These are two skills that most players arguably lack.

I don't know if it's just because I play so much LoL, or because I'm right handed, or something else, but I find going from top left to bottom right a more natural motion than top right to bottom left. So I think I'll be sticking it out with the map in the buttom right.

probably being conditioned from an early age to read from left to right, i learned on basic training that if you're conducting a search or doing recces you want to scan right to left because it's unnatural so you pay more attention and catch things that are out of place
