After today's patch from Riot, the LoL servers went down. Currently, servers are still down and according to Riot, they are working on it. Riot has tried to support us with Tournament Realm access, however... Tournament Realm clients from Riot for LoL did not crash (matches are still going), but the spectator feature of the TR client is not working (bug in the spectator feature), which caused the caster client to crash. Therefore, the current matches being played are not properly streamed. Hope this clears things up. We'll keep you guys updated.
The MOBA scene has recently exploded within the esports world, and the game leading the pack is Riot's League of Legends. Known for its fast paced gameplay and teamwork oriented battles, League is sure to be a crowd favorite. Sporting eight of the world’s best teams, the GESL is guaranteed to have some amazing matches. Arranged into groups for pool play and then seeded into a single elimination bracket, teams will have to be on the top of their game throughout the event to take the top spot. In addition to the teams, there will also be casters on-site to capture every play and decision for the audience.
Spectators who are lucky enough to make it in person will have the chance to mingle with the pros, get autographs, and take pictures. Those of you viewing the stream will be pleased to know we have thought of you as well. Games will be casted in crystal clear HD, all for free. All you need to do is relax, grab a drink and some snacks, and enjoy the matches from the comfort of your home. Whether you're a veteran player or just getting into the game, we're sure to have something you'll like.
There really is no need to introduce a game like StarCraft 2. The rightful heir to the RTS empire is here, no esports event is complete without it. We've managed to grab 24 of the best players in the scene and are putting their skills to the test. GESL will feature a hybrid format with group play leading to a single elimination bracket that ensures each game is intense and meaningful.
There is also a little twist for the players; they won't know which group they're in till the day of. That’s right, for the first time, outside of the GSL, there will be live group drawings on stage.
Aside from great games you can also expect plenty of time with the pros for meet-and-greet, pictures, and signings; bringing you closer to the player is our goal. There will also be great casters throughout the event to make your viewing experience that much better as well as some very awesome personalities from the StarCraft community. If by chance you can't make it live don't fret, the event will be broadcast in HD 100% free so you can enjoy the matches no matter where you are. We would also like to announce that there will be in game player cams for each competitor, in addition to the caster stream. We're brining you the fix for all your StarCraft needs.

When I first read the email I shook with excitement. And now 12 hours later I am still excited beyond belief. I am ready to see what our team can do against the top tier teams. I have a tremendous amount of faith in our team. Its great to see all the hard work finally paying off with this wonderful opportunity. BE READY! WE COMIN!

We thank the GESL for the opportunity and invitation to this wonderful event. We were looking forward to meeting the fans of Absolute Legends and the fans of League of Legends in general at GESL. Absolute Legends NA cannot attend due to travel restrictions of two members. We apologize for this. Look forward to seeing us at our next LAN event or next online tournament
TGF and Dirtnap are upincoming teams 2k elo +; Dirtnap has won a Go4LoL passing and beating curse to to their win; TGF is another team who has been on the rise; has played and beaten some competition; they were at MLG did respectable.
Seems like the internet went down over there? So the tourney is delayed? I'd like it if the admins did more than just advertise on here and actually gave us updates.

From some tweets it looks like the first real game might be in like a hourish; 2:30 PM PST// Otherwise just hold offish; the SC2 guys looks like they are set and running; will see if league will run too =D

What a joke rofl. I understand shit happens but at least tell us there's a delay or something. I even followed them on twitter to see if they're updating on there but nothing. Only updates I got were tweets from TOO and jiji.
Was hoping to see CLG in the first game just as the schedule promised, but on stream is TD vs ???. Gotta go to sleep soon since it's almost midnight and I need to get up early. So sad.

I get that, but after a hefty delay I would start the tournament with a big bang to catch as many viewers as possible and to kinda make up for the 'inconvenience'.
Because tbh, the vast majority of viewers is there to see CLG / TSM I guess. if it only was for another order, it could still be ok for the most people. But knowing that the big names are playing simultaneously while not getting to see it is rather annoying. :/

The other games already started before the stream got up. Dynamic vs Dirtnap is literally the only game that they could've streamed.
I mean, I guess they could've delayed CLG vs mTw and TSM vs CLG.b even longer so that people could spectate it but then the games would probably go on way too late tonight.
Oh lol they're playing on live client. I just spectate via client GG shitSL. edit: We're sorry to interrupt these commercials to announce that it's time for more commercial.
Wow, close game! Right up until the point where it wasn't. >_<
Curse looked good coming out the box, but TSM is just a little bit too sharp with this particular team comp, and they played toplane Shen the way you're supposed to play him: gank the fool constantly.
On a side note, there are a couple ways that LoL lags behind SC2 in terms of community and support. (One example might be that I find the best LoL discussion takes place on a SC2 website.) But I think one of the biggest contrasts is commentary. These guys are just.... I mean, they didn't even mention Regi's split push until it was over. So little map awareness. >_<
ROFL that interview with Dyrus was so awkward (mostly due to the interviewer I'd say, not going along with the "trash talk"/joking of Dyrus) yet so funny.

I mean, that's kind of my point, isn't it? But it's not like Phreak or Rivington really bring anything. On an SC2 cast, they'd be like "least acceptable".
I dunno if anyone is even watching this tournament anymore but I remember when saint first started talking about their new top laner and said he was "better than all the other top laners!" Then we found out it was Westrice. He's died three times already in top lanes, two of his deaths were just straight up 1v1s against Sycho Sid's Wukong (Westrice was playing Vladimir).
anyone know how clg black has done so far? tried to tune in when event was starting, but that didnt work out obviously and im just now coming back to it...
I really hate the over the top compliments on the plays that happen in the game by the commentators It is not a beautifull ward, it is not an amazing teleport, the guy simply pressed a button i understand they are trying to create exitement out of nothing but going about how beautifull and amazing was that red buff smite just sounds lame and makes good plays not stand out,
On June 16 2012 13:36 sharky246 wrote: how come this thread has less posts than the sc2 thread, but the lol stream outnumbers sc2?
Two reasons. First, while the number of viewers on SC2 might be lower, there's definitely more passionate fans. SC2 has a much better "community" backing it than LoL. For evidence, just look here. TL is a massive site run mostly by volunteers who just care that damn much about the game. LoL has a bunch of sites (solomid.net, clg's site, reignofgaming.com, etc.), but none of them have communities as active or engaged as TL. One of the best things about TL is how easy they make it to find information about tournaments. Brackets, streams, live discussion, etc. are all very easily accessible. To my knowledge, there's nothing like this anywhere for LoL.
All of that's a long way of saying, better/more engaged community --> more active live report thread.
Or we're too new of a community to push for it; btw the TL'ers here are the ones sourcing Leaguepedia and such; They're some really passionate people; it's just we don't have the system yet to set up for it.

Anyways for this tourney; I expect TSM / TD to end up in the finals. Dark Horse who has a possibility to make it through is DNG (although this is partially bias, partially cause of schedule). And the match to watch will CLG Prime/Curse (CRS) then the semi-finals match of that between (TSM/TGF).
On June 16 2012 13:36 sharky246 wrote: how come this thread has less posts than the sc2 thread, but the lol stream outnumbers sc2?
Also im pretty sure the horrible difficulties they had to even get a stream going has had most interested people abandon this tournament. And with Dreamhack going online soon i doubt its going to get any better. Starting hours late, doing 1 match and then having to comment a second match 2 hours later over chat just isnt something that will cause your viewers to stick.

He lives in SoCal. He and Chauster and Hotshot are all really good friends. GESL could've just asked him to drive like the ten minutes to come commentate. Or maybe he just came to root for his friends and GESL was like, "hey sup?"
Double AP by CLG into 4x tanky + Soraka by Crs... I wonder if they thought about it or are like "let's just pick what we are good at" like CLG sometimes does.
Nyjacky picks up first blood on jiji after all five invade and jiji gets caught. Chauster Alistar picks up kill on Ele Soraka after Curse steals red. Doublelift gets double kill on saintvicious and Cop after they pick up a kill on Chauster.
More baffling than not banning Shen was picking Udyr instead of Soraka with Curse's 4th pick. They basically allowed themselves to get counterpicked mid AND bot for no reason.
I think doublelift has some sort of switch in his brain when tourneys are on the line when he just says "guys I'mma play vayne. I got this" and goes on to carry. He did the same thing in a korean game a while back (forget who against) where his hauled the rest of CLG onto his vayne-y shoulders and lugged them to victory.
I don't get why people risk to not ban Shen, especially vs CLG. It's so cocky IMO, at least as long as Shen's ultimate remains to be a global one.
You can maybe risk it vs certain EU teams but it is known that CLG either bans or first picks Shen when open just as it is known that they don't care that much about contesting early dragons. It's just one of CLG's signature attitudes.
I'm a huge Saint fanboy and that was so hard to watch. It was bad from the start with his mistake feeding Vayne red, but it just got worse and worse from there. CLG read him perfectly and countered most of his ganks. Hopefully once they get into the gaming house they'll start improving.
I feel like Chauster is the biggest reason CLG succeeds bot lane. I just don't see him have bad games. Like, ever. Then again, I don't want a lot of CLG, so maybe that's a misconception on my part.

It started at IPL4. Doublelift has just started going god mode. I think it was from his time in Korea and playing on Korean ladder with Chauster and scrimming the Korean teams. DL himself says that all of the Korean botlanes are stronger than the NA and EU ones and that they do stuff no one in the west does. It's the reason why I think DL/Chau are probably the strongest AD/support combo right now. Not only are they really solid against any other AD/support combo but they have more experience against the Asian teams than any other AD/support combo in the west. DL has just gotten a fuck ton better, even when CLG loses he usually finishes with a positive score.
And I think saint's performance in both MLG and the GESL is a result of him not practicing as hard as he was when he was on CLG. I think he even said that Curse practices a lot less right now. Should be interesting to see how they do in a gaming house, Nyjacky is still their best player by a lot imo, even with the addition of saint.
edit: In response to comment above, Doublelift has very very few bad games since IPL4. Even in the Korean The Champions when CLG was getting destroyed DL still did really well. Obviously Chauster is really good at support too but DL has gotten stupidly good at AD carry.

It's true, Chauster and Doublelift work great together because chauster does most of the thinking and just lets doublelift focus purely on his mechanics which are godly.

Do they ineffectively lane switch in Korea? 'Cause that's what CLG did this game, and it seems the NA squads were up for it.
Not that I blame them. TSM has looked bad twice in games where they had to deal with a lane switch, so I thought it was an excellent plan going in. TSM just executed better.

CLG was out-strategized, but DL played like a beast this game. I was amazed at how effective he was in teamfights even being so far behind. Team too heavy, 1v9.
CLG really outpicked themselves there. Picking Naut when strong counter-jungler like Mundo is up. Not to mention their lanes weren't the strongest solos either. OddOne and TSM really know how to abuse them out of it.

I think this lane swap thing only works against teams that aren't prepared. This time TSM knew what was coming and reacted accordingly.
Hey a question. When there is tournaments around the world, do they play online on KR/US/EU or do they have some kind of LAN server set up by Riot with all champs, runes etc? ~~

That's part of it definitely. Xpecial was already moving towards top lane after mundo stole CLG's first blue. The point is that Naut isn't available to support his lanes because a) He's already behind from having his buffs stolen. b) Even if he comes, they can't do much since the lanes weren't the strongest lane.
Combine these 2 factors and CLG is almost guaranteed to lose unless TSM plays passively or derps hard.
Oddone getting caught and giving baron tipped everything into CLG's favor. They were already in their way to late-game but still a bit behind. TSM needed to end much sooner, Ryze, Vayne, Vlad >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kennen, Corki, Olaf late game,

It was like, Dyrus, oddone, xpecial in CLG's jungle and then Chaox, Reginald bot.
On June 17 2012 13:33 Slow Motion wrote: If I remember right, wasn't it really Dyrus who invaded CLG jungle vs 4 and that's what got Oddone caught? More Dyrus's fault imo than Oddone's.
No. Dyrus was trying to steal Blue but was in no danger. OddOne trying to clear wards without any team mates nearby and not enough wards deep to see them coming = suicide. Although to be fair he was really tanky and if it was anyone other than Vayne he would probably live.
From what I remember seeing was HSGG hooking TOO alone, then vayne follows up with ult + tumble to semi-knock TOO back into team. TOO pops Shurelia and seemingly makes it into the clear, but HSGG does a flash + max range hook along with Vayne follow up picks off TOO.
wow, doublelift's vayne is always such a pleasure to watch. Every CLG vs TSM follow a very interesting template: TSM build an advantage early on with total dragon control and more successful gank while CLG is keeping in the game by good farming and some late game picks. Then either tsm can baron mid game and it's basically game or either CLG can contest and make a good move on someone to pick it and finish the game.
So entertaining to watch, what a good rivalry to witness !
TSM likes the team comp, and Dyrus almost always goes Olaf to counter Vlad. Unless they were baiting it, I'm confused why CLG picked their midlane 4th pick instead of their bot lane, which wasn't counterpickable at the time. The Sona pick over Taric is interesting for CLG. I see it as a sign that CLG wasn't happy with how easily they were pushed around early in bot last game. Sona will give them the presence early game to pressure Chaox/Xpecial (Should that be ChaoXpecial?), and get Vayne to the mid-game with at least equal farm.

Yeah. It could have been very awkward but kobe and wombat are doing an amazing job making it hilarious. One of the funnest tournaments in a long time just because of the crowd interaction and these names. Gets lame when people start spamming racist things though :/
Meh, bad spoiler by the crowd. Pretty much gave away TSM won with the cheer. Nice to see TSM adopting well to CLG though I fear if they always need a loss to review their plays I fear for their chances if people pull weird stuff on them.
Hahahahaha. I can't believe she flat asked them, "So, I hear you're not having a good time at the tournament." Why bring that up in the stream interview? Keep the focus on the games. I enjoy Rachel (sideline reporter chick), but that doesn't strike me as the kind of thing to bring up at that particular time!
(Also, "The venue has a firewall blocking all video games, and we didn't realize this beforehand/make the necessary preparations," is a pretty shitty explanation for why everything got fucked up.)
I can't wait till voyboy starts playing again. Xhazzard does a pretty good job most of the games but he can only play 3 heroes atleast from what I've seen. Vlad, Malph, and Shen. I think CLG is forced to build a team around him and once Hotshot learns more jungle characters they will imo become the strongest team NA.
please stop letting wombat control the camera and miss every kill, kobe has been the caster thus far at keeping up with the action and should continue to do so. I really don't understand why it's so difficult to not miss stuff on the minimap. Korean bw observers never miss anything in hundreds of games while every single league caster misses half of the lane kills every game.

I honestly think a dedicated "camera man" is the single best/easiest way for tournaments to improve their casting. It's really not hard. One guy controls the camera, another guy watches that monitor and streams off of it, and a third guy also talks but has his own camera to watch with.
The way they do it now would be like having John Madden working a camera for an NFL broadcast.

Day 1 they don't have internet. This wasn't the tournament organizers fault, in fact they had been making sure their internet worked just the day before. Someone on campus unrelated to the event shut the internet off where the LoL portion of the tournament was suppose to be held. Hardly their fault. Also on Day 1 their computer used for streaming broke, which is admittedly at least partially their fault but hey that kind of shit happens. Day 2 went off without issues. Day 3 NA live servers are down, which sucks but they can't really do anything about that. Riot hooks them up with Tournament Realm and the Tournament Realm's spectator mode crashes.
Literally the only thing that they could've done better was to have a second streaming PC prepared or something. Everything else that's plagued this tournament has been out of their control.
Look, that's fine in a world where there aren't world-class events like MLG, IEM,a nd Dream Hack. But if you want to host a relevant, live tournament, there are some things you need to get straight. One of them is having your internet working. (Which, BTW, means you aren't relying on a 3rd party like a school to supply it, and if you are, you make damn sure they know it's going on and don't have some random person turn it off.) Another one is having a tournament realm ALREADY set up. IEM games are on a tournament realm. So are MLG's. I would imagine DH is the same way. It boggles the mind that GESL's weren't to begin with.
Look, this was a nice idea for a nice, low-budget tournament with some good teams. But it went to shit, and when things happen that the organizers hadn't anticipated, it's their fault for not anticipating them. Simple as that.

Not yet because GESL used NA live servers until those crashed. They then delayed the schedule and got the tournament realm.

How is having their internet shut off not their fault? As the organizers of the tournament they should have at least talked to the campus to make sure they're aware of this event. Every thing except for the crashing of tournament realm's spectator mode was something they should've and could've make preparations ahead of time to make sure this doesn't happen.
Day 1: Internet died, massive delay Day 2: Somewhat fine, teams complained about delay Day 3: No Tourney Realm, NA server goes down, massive delay. No stream.
chaox somehow lived through all the team fights and dealt all the damage, janna/ashe good kite comp vs karthus/noct but not sure how they didn't snowball after early advantage.

They only got it after the live servers went down completely. This is Gigabyte's first LAN. They got no real help from Riot at all until today. They still managed to bring in tons of sponsors. They're being blamed for things that are outside of their control (like the internet going down or the servers crashing). Like I said originally the only thing they could've done better was ensure they had a second streaming computer.

They did do this. They were checking to make sure the internet was fine for a week prior to the event. They checked the internet the day before. The day of the event someone, no one knows who, shut the internet off. This could literally happen at any venue ever for any tournament lol.
Your statement is just really silly. They should have "at least talked to the campus to make sure they're aware of this event," as if they just like waltzed onto campus and hosted the event without letting anyone know.
I'm not gonna deny that it sucks how bad things went at this tournament. But honestly most of it was just really horrible coincidences. The only thing I could really fault them for was how little information was spread on day 1 during all of the delays but they worked really hard to give fans something to watch and enjoy despite all of the horrible circumstances.
The first time it was 30 mins of ads and then someone casted a game in webchat. Then on my second try i had 20 mins of ads, then rachel giving away a PC to zigs mom, then more ads (at which point i stopped watching), that was my highlight of this event. The last try was 20 mins of ads, then the typical "hot asian chick" (seriously, every 2nd LoL event has a asian hostess) asking a pro really irrelevant questions, then more ads, then ANOTHER interview by the same female, then more ads. Then i stopped watching and just read this thread for the scores.
i will avoid events from these organizers for some time.
I don't blame the GESL for Riot's NA servers going down after the patch. I blame riot for releasing a bugged patch over a weekend when they should do it on like a monday or tuesday when no tournaments are occuring and they have people on staff to fix it when the entire realm goes down.
Anyway will there be any VODs released from this tournament and where can I get them?

We will be working on cutting Twitch VODs and uploading them onto YouTube in an organized fashion once we get some rest. For now, the entire recording is available en masse on the Twitch channel itself.

Is it even worth watching though if it's in 240p and only from Regi's POV. Hell I can watch his stream for the same effect and better quality.
