As an example, I find Philo terrible on Cho because it doesn't give you useful stats (you already have incredible sustain) but it's very powerful on GP, who gets gold from the mana regen (thank to his Q). He basically can transform 60 mana in 8 gold, therefore those stats are very good on him. On the other hand, HoG is very good on tanky chars as it's a cheap life buffer with a neat passive. Basically, on Lee Sin or Cho (champs usually engaging fights head on but full life thanks to sustain), having a HoG in your inventory can save your life and its cost is nullified at a certain point. Gp10 items are very situationnal, and their main utility STILL is their stats. If you make no use of it, don't take it. Well if you need manareg to use Q on gp then get costeffective manareg, except you build shureila's, which is a decent item on him imo. g/10 items work exactly like snowball items: they set you behind for a certain window. with the snowball items you need to get assissts and kills for them to be on par with other items which is after 5stacks on SS, but you get more stats/gold if you hit 10 stacks. and on g/10 you need to wait 15min until they are on par with basic items and 25min until they generate gold. It's like in sc2 when your researching or expanding. It makes you weaker now but stronger later.

GP10 is bad on cho if you don't build anything with them, plain and simple. The confusing part is how throwing away gold looks attractive. They become cost-effective faster than they take to become free. The logic behind gp10 in free-farm scenarios is that because neither of you are doing anything to one another, it doesn't hurt you to have less cost-effective stats now--which means the items are likely to become cost-effective without you being put in a scenario where you would have rather had the other items.

The reason why people are shying away from talking about this is that earlier this week there was a gigantic discussion about it at least seven pages long. I suggest you just read the discussion yourself starting at page 39, it ends at roughly page 46. By the end of it you should be tearing your hair out without the inconvenience of actually discussing anything with anyone.

Some of the salient differences: 1) gp10 on top laners comes earlier. Getting your gp10 at 5 minutes and having it becomes worthwhile at 15 minutes is actually ok, because it's conceivable that the reduced immediate stats from the gp10 won't hurt you in that 10 minute time-frame. Getting gp10 on supports at 15 minutes and having it become worthwhile at 25 minutes makes that less likely--shit happens in the 15-25 minute marks pretty much guaranteed. 2) supports don't get into those sort of lulls where you're not really doing shit and you can get away with having less cost-effective stats. 3) Gp10 on a top laner is generally giving you stats that you'd be buying one way or another. There's not a huge difference between having Philo+HoG and having some Warmog's parts, except the Warmog's parts are more cost-effective now, while the Philo+HoG make back their gold value. By contrast, supports will pretty much always be translating surplus gold into wards. Wards now vs. wards later is a decision that needs to be made a bit more carefully.

That's a REALLY late gp10. 2) supports don't get into those sort of lulls where you're not really doing shit and you can get away with having less cost-effective stats. You mean other than the 90% of bot lanes where you're sitting in the bush afk healing or shielding and the difference between 1-2 drings and a philo during that is trivial. 3) Gp10 on a top laner is generally giving you stats that you'd be buying one way or another. Delaying warmogs means a delay in stacks. Two gp10 on a top laner will set your atmogs back quite a bit, so better be sure that game is going to take awhile.

Assuming you started with a Faerie Charm, Philo + Boots takes like 950 of that, and you need to be buying wards at a decent rate. You need to get a pretty significant amount of gold from kills/assists/global gold/taking cs in order to get Philo+HoG by 15 minutes. 2) supports don't get into those sort of lulls where you're not really doing shit and you can get away with having less cost-effective stats. Again, that situation is unlikely to happen at 15 minutes, whereas at 15 minutes, a top laner with TP could still be afk-pushing while shit is happening in other places around the map. Delaying warmogs means a delay in stacks. Two gp10 on a top laner will set your atmogs back quite a bit, so better be sure that game is going to take awhile. This is true, fair enough.

I was just wondering if we could weed out the stupid posts this time. Btw, do you think Lee Sin needs nerf ? I've been playing him recently and he's very underwhelming compared to Udyr :/

I've been playing him recently and he's very underwhelming compared to Udyr :/ At this point he's not hugely ahead of the curve with regard to junglers, especially with so many new junglers coming into play (Skarner buffed, people rediscovering Rammus, upcoming Olaf and Shaco buffs, etc.).

I've had games where I barely was able to afford a Philo by 15 minutes because I am warding/counterwarding aggressively, but no Dragons/Towers/Kills are going down. 2 gold/10 in 15 minutes on a support usually means that you're playing a very low level game where people just exchange kills randomly as soon as they get back to lane, or you are winning hard anyways.

An amusing but useless statistic. 1) You won't ever buy every rune, plenty of them are useless, at least when you consider you only have up to 11? runepages. 2) Prices for older champions will go down. 3) New champions 4) Promotional deals like free alistar/tristana PS: I get the same thing in my normals.. /sigh
