Nothing wrong with any of those champs really.
Heimer is just a super niche champ, Sion is quite good as an AP carry and supposedly Yorick is beastly lately, which would explain his being banned from 8 games.

Oh I know, but you get so many people in normals and solo q complain about picking "crap champs" like them.
Also, I thought you build Sion AD? I don't play him, but that's how a RL friend builds him, so I have no idea :S

You can do either, but most players favour AP for whatever reason.

Bigger shields means bigger boom.
But really, AP sion is way better because it's stronger in lane, it farms better, and it snowballs out of control because people not only gets 2 shotted by you, they can't even damage you up a certain extent.

AP Sion has a smoother power curve--he's strong in lane with both of his nukes ranked up a few times, and items mostly just augment his damage.
His kit is also just better for burst damage. 1.5 second stun->shield is relatively easy to combo off, but it's rather hard to push sustained damage through once the stun wears off because you have no gap closer.

They just can't balance yorick though. Poor guy has been buffed and nerfed so many times

AP Sion mid carries SO HARD ~1700 elo. I wish I wouldn't suck with that type of champ.
Blow up minion wave, dive sidelane together with jungle, collect (double) kill, be back to mid before the tower even takes any damage.
