They improved upon the AI from the original release in subsequent patches.

It took me about 2 months to learn how to beat the ai in broodwar. Even if I could take games over other D level players, normal builds didnt work against the comp for me.

dota 2 only has mana bars for allied heroes

not interested in that design philosophy, probably won't play it... oh well

I mean I know that's super minor but it's the kind of thing where I can see what other design decisions would need to go with that one and I don't like them

why not just hide health bars and force you to click on enemy heroes to see how low they are, that makes as much sense to me

WC3's engine hid everything if you didn't hold alt, so consider it an improvement.

Pretty sure it doesn't. It's part of the strategy behind scouting the nexus' energy and determining how much they are saving up for an early warp gate push or picking up high energy queens with phoenixes so they can't transfuse. I think they were hidden in BW though.

DotA2 doesn't really give a fuck, as it's entire purpose is to copy DotA as faithfully as possible gameplay wise. In fact, hardcore DotA fans would argue that moba's have not 'evolved,' they have gotten sloppy and forgiving; not counting interface improvements and things like matchmaking, which DotA2 is going to improve upon massively from the first.
